To clarify wild magic isnt a mod. if you choose a wild magic class: any time you cast a spell, there is a chance of a random magic affect happening. the mod is to add the other 80 the game devs didnt add in. its supposed to be a list of 100 effects but it was only 20 in the game.
Y'know anything the devs didn't want to add in I really can't even blame them for it lol

Want to know what the biggest draw to the game was right before its release? The studio was showing off gameplay & romance subplots. One of your romance/sex options is a man who can shapeshift into animals. He gets horny and turns into a bear, he shifts back & apologizes for “ruining the mood” with your character & tries to leave.
One of your response options is “wait that was actually kind of hot do it again” & having sex with him while he’s shapeshifted as a Bear.
The game is huge as hell and has all kinds of wild ass interactions that ppl are still discovering. I saw one video where somebody found that you can challenge a boss to a drinking contest & if you’re dice rolls are good enough you’ll kill him by having him overdose on his own poisoned booze.
I was playing the exact class as him once & with the class whenever you cast a spell there’s a completely random chance for something else to happen as well. I was the last one of my team alive & cast a protection spell on myself cause the boss was close to me, this caused the side effect of myself & the boss catching on fire, the boss was standing on top of flammable liquid, the liquid exploded killing the boss & leaving me at like 4hp. 😂

I've spent over 200 hours in the game with 3 completed campaigns. I truly could not describe the game any other way other than "what the FYHUCK" because not only will you be asking yourself that about everything you'll also be yelling it at your screen when you fail the most basic of things. My first playthrough was.......interesting for many reasons. I had no idea what I was doing for the most part I just tried my best to be the perfect hero despite looking like the largest buff sorcerer you've ever seen.....that also looks like a twink. Imagine James Charles but he's 6'4 and RIPPED with scars and a manly face but still makeup and all. Now imagine that guy being your hero....... Then imagine that guy failing things he shouldn't be failing at because a random dice said "nahhhh not this time" or imagine you have a 95% chance of hitting your target with a spell.......and you miss. But it's ok so you give it another go with the same 95% chance of hitting.....and miss AGAIN and then you realise the game just dosent like you. The game has a big learning curve but once you have the game down it is incredibly fun. But it is not without its flaws the game while giving many options isn't as free to anything as you would think. I've tried many things that the game said no to. For example I tried to kill the squid he romances in the video when I first meet him in a playthrough however when I kill him I'm told doing so kills the entire party because he's what's keeping us alive.....so in reality you don't have a choice but to work with him for atleast a little bit where you can kill him or betray him later. My plans and ideas have been foiled many times so the game is t truly you can do anything. But the game has a very diverse set of ways it can be played. Overall I'd say the game is a solid 9/10 it has its issues but the passion put into the game is just undeniable and it's incredibly fun.
Technically, you did do those things, you just felt the consequences of your actions after haha.
Listen hey, you can do these dangerous things (looking at you players who decided to insult a God equivalent) but… I mean actions have consequences. Sometimes the consequences for your actions, is just death lol.
@@garymcjerry were able to free Orpheus though. The reason given to go with the emp is because he controls the power of Orpheus and believe Orpheus will kill us. But we find out we can free him and he will work with us not against us. He is angry at us when we do free him because we killed his gith friends instead of freeing him in the first place. My point being there is no playthrough where you cant help the emp in that fight and instantly help Orpheus. You HAVE to help the emp for a period of time. Also dialogue options can be a bit limiting . I tried playing a not evil but not good character and it went poorly for dialogue. Most times dialogue is either heartless or pure good there isn't an in-between in many cases. Its normally two good and a bad. And on that topic if you do a bad guy you almost always have one dialogue option that's for evil/bad charecters unless your playing the dark urge. Of course there are limitations in what can be done and I still think larian and the game are truly amazing. But if we don't point out where the game limits and our personal grievance with things in the game then there's nothing to aspire to. Overall I would like more diverse dialogue for maybe more of the alliances ( lawful good chaotic neutral lawful evil and so on) and also less "cannon events" less mandatory events. There should be a way to bypass having to work with the emp. There should be a way to neutralise Orin/gortash without fighting them. No problem/situation should have only one solution or the option to let the problem continue. It should be 2-3 solutions or let it continue. A evil charecter and a hero charecter who want the same thing should not be taking the same path.
@@dominicsmalley9394 Yes, I know, but that’s my whole point. You can go against the emperor, and since he is protecting you, and you have no way of actually in character knowing any other means of protection, the result is death. In lore, I can’t think of a reason you wouldn’t die tbh. Later on you sub emp for Orpheus if you go that route. It’s either or, but at that point of the story, in character, your only protection from the mindflayers is emp using Orpheus.
That’s a fair outcome, even if you would have perhaps liked some other option pertaining to you personally which is completely valid, but not the original criticism.
It would be bending the rules to make you *not* die there… in the same way I used vlaakith as a example, surviving a wish spell at your level *would* break lore.
Even if it’s technically “limiting” it’s actually just consequences for your actions.
In regards to dialogue, I thought it was fine, but I could see how a more neutral approach might be more difficult. Given how neutral is actually just… not getting involved lol. It’s not really about being in the middle of good and bad, neutral in dnd is basically “not my problem” or “let it sort itself out”. Which isn’t really appropriate in a game where you obviously want to engage and experience the content, and since being active isn’t really neutral, perhaps some more attention could be paid into the middle section of the alignment chart.
Oh and lastly I disagree with the section on cannon events. Some events, in a game, should just be predetermined.
Not everything should be determined by your actions imo, that’s not how the world is. If Orin wants to fight, and that’s ALL she wants. What other option is there? What else are you going to do? You can kill her or not kill her, but she has something you need, and absolutely won’t negotiate.
That’s all true to her character. It again imo, would be stranger and more out of place to have these characters bend around you, instead of being their own individuals. You shouldn’t be able to convince Orin at all. Beyond convincing her to do something that’s actually within her absolutely insane serial killer Bhaalspawn of a character.
Gortash boss fight blows honestly lol, I won’t defend him, because I don’t like it either. Wet blanket of a boss fight.
So while I agree that, generally yes, there should of course be as many diverse possibilities as reasonably feasible, I do not believe that *every* character should always be able to be approached differently.

Watching this for the first time actually gave me a headache from trying to absorb all the information. I actually played the game I can't imagine how insane this must sound to non players.
I got BG3 cuz of the character creation while only knowing a little about DND but I got hooked immediately. It’s better when you play as opposed to watching gameplay
I understand the not wanting to hurt people, I do. That's why I save compulsively lol. But I recommend playing this game SO. MUCH.

My current character is a dwarf warlock with very low strength. Since i have short legs and low strength I can't jump very far, which can be a problem with traversing some areas. Luckily Lae'zel is in the party and is very strong, so she can just throw me.

I am on my 6th playthrough of this game😅 it is the best thing I've played in at least a decade. Completely unhinged game you can do just about anything. Every playthrough has been very different each time

You think Baldur's Gate is hard to keep track of. Imagine knowing DnD beforehand and trying to keep track of the little rule differences.

Some games have outstanding gameplay but are not enjoyable to watch. Palworld is the same thing. It's fantastic but boring to watch lmao
So, in regards to the Underdark races (Deep Gnomes, Duregar, Drow, etc..), DnD has actually received a lot of questions and criticism about them. Not from BG3, but in general, because they're all very old concepts in DnD. Drow have existed in DnD for a long time. The criticism is basically "Why is it that the dark-skinned races of the Underdark are typically predisposed to being evil". Case in point, Duregar are a race of slavers and Drow are a matriarchal society of spider-worshipping sadists. There's an underlying level of uncomfortable commentary behind the concepts of these fantasy races. Granted, Drow now have good options, but Duregar are still described as " the evil dwarves". Deep Gnomes actually tend to trend towards good... except in BG3.
**Spoiler (Even though this part was spoiled in the video**
When you reach the Grimforge in the Underdark, you can assist a group of Deep Gnomes escape their enslavement at the hands of cultists and Duregar. They thank you and you don't see them again until Act 2 where you can save them again from their imprisonment at the hands of cultists. After they leave, you meet them again in Act 3, where the tone of your interactions with them shifts DRASTICALLY. The city of Baldur's Gate is occupied by automatons controlled by a one of the main villains of the game. Those automatons are being built by an enslaved group of Gnomes that worship an inventor god called Gond. The method of control? Their families were kidnapped and imprisoned in an underwater fortress and attempting to rescue them will result in the prison being destroyed (There is a way to save them, but that isn't important rn). So naturally, you would think that freeing their families and the enslaved Gnomes would be good... right? Well, the leader of the Deep Gnomes doesn't think so. Even after learning the reason why the Gnomes helped the villain, the Deep Gnome leader still blames THEM for creating the automatons. He forces your to choose sides. Why is he so bitter about them? Their ancestors had beef and got the Deep Gnomes exiled from the city. It's a very odd questline imo. You spend the game occasionally helping these Deep Gnomes escape slavery or prison, only for them to turn around and order you to kill a bunch of Gnomes that you also helped escape slavery. You can prevent the killing if you're on good terms with the Deep Gnomes, but they get pissy and leave.
TL;DR - Beyond the implicit racism that would exist in a world where ACTUAL different fantasy races lived alongside eachother, there are odd actual racist undertones in the lore of a few races, usually the ones that are from the Underdark. DnD was written by a bunch of nerds in era before social awareness was a widespread thing. A LOT of the early concepts, art, and designs of creatures and places had problematic qualities. Things like all the female art being sexualized heavily... or the racist implications of a dark-skinned race of matriarchal spider-worshiping sadist elves that are predisposed to being evil.
I mean its quite literally just that darkness is associated with evil, this is instinctual and has nothing to do with skintone.

Hell, even WotC has been making efforts to sanitize the problematic elements of the DnD universe over time. I think they take it too far sometimes, but if they can recognize it, why can't you?
them having darker skin doesn't even make sense given their habitat, since they live underground they should have extremely pale skin, like to the point of almost translucent, it'd make sense to see darker skin elves, dwarves and gnomes in warm climates on the surface where they actually have to have melanin to protect their skin from the sun
