The black-tie event was an historical moment: an official inaugural event featuring some of the finest musicians of the '50s and '60s from Stax and Chess Records including Bo Diddley, Percy Sledge and Carla Thomas, along with several hotshot Texas blues guitarists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimmie Vaughan at the height of their careers.

"You've Got A Cushion To Fall On (1972)" - certainly among my favorites. I'm 67 now, but

I had the pleasure of being introduced to Carla by her father, Rufus, who I became friends with in Memphis back in '78. I was working at a radio station and went to call on a client and met Rufus there, who was just the nicest person ever. When our radio station was doing a concert promotion, I was there and Rufus pushed through the crowd to get to me (!) and introduced me to his daughter, Carla. It was an incredible experience as he asked me to join them on stage and play tambourine with him, Carla, and Sam & Dave and I'll never forget it. B-A-B-Y is one of my all time favorite soul classics (thank you Issac Hayes!). The combination of Carla's incredibly smooth, sexy, voice along the musicians and the excellent production make this a instant classic!
