That, my friend, is what you call the stank face. As someone here has already eluded to, if the notes can’t be seen in your face, are you really even playing?
Had to be the then-current high point of his meteoric rise to Legend: Playing a fellow Texan's Presidential Inaugural Ball with the Iceman introducing you & your brother playing back-up to witness your greatness!
Holy fuck, that was totally badass. Breaks a string, switches guitars, and says, "Fuck it! That ain't gonna stop me from playing behind my back!" Dayum! You go Stevie!
Stephen Ray Vaughn had been the Greatest Blue's Guitarist in the Modern Day Scenes, with Rifs never been played so beautifully, honestly & truly personalized for his amazing qualities! ☆☆☆☆☆💖✌👏👍
Best Guitar Player, Ever! Bar None! They put His statue up, in Austin Texas, on my Birthday, Nov. 21, in the year 1994! Thanks for that excellent video! Peace! Brother Nick
Love how even though he breaks the string behind his back he still finishes the song behind his back with the backup guitar. True musician. Wish this guy was still around.
I remember where I was when his plane went down. My pops burst out in tears, and I had never seen him even cry before. SRV. Damn your soul is missed man. Thank you for the memories and music you left us, such a picture you paint...
Man, when he puts the back up guitar behind his back after changing it, I could do nothing else than laughing uncontrollably of how badass Stevie was. A virtuso, a stellar performer, a great human being. We all still miss you very much Stevie!
I love how when his string breaks....and his tech hands him another guitar....he straps it back behind his back and absolutely destroys it to pieces. Its almost as if he's saying to his guitar, " How dare you, take this you son of a B!$@# " and sends his strat to another dimension. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING to say the least.
I can't get enough of Stevie Ray! He had cleaned up his problems and he died to soon. I pray he is in heaven playing with the heavenly band! I love you Stevie Ray!
Because back then, playing the guitar in front of you was overrated and too easy. LOL. Stevie was such a BEAST! He lit it up like no one else could, and he did so with style and class. He was a true master of technical precision and musical expression, and he is the epitome of what can happen when both elements are perfectly aligned. He died a legend and his name will never be forgotten.
Saw Steve Ray an Eric Clapton the day before they went down in concert, I've seen a lot of bands over the course of 50yrs, nottin like I saw that nite, I am blessed to have seen a guitar God in action!!! My favorite album of Steve Ray Vaughn is -- in step, which he won a Grammy award, srv lives forever!!!
I love seeing stevie's transformation from 1983-90. He was already the greatest guitarist imo but when he sobered up, his vocals and playing got even better. The passion and emotion he put into his playing has never been duplicated.
As Stevie said himself , " it's got to come from the heart " man , if you ever want to see and hear what music pouring out from the heart & soul is like , look no further !! 🤘🎸🎶🎶 You're still rockin us SRV !!!!!
I have spent last 6 months watching videos with SRV. But this .. I've never ever EVER seen SRV or any other guitarist pull out such an incredible show. Soooo huge, I think this video is gonna by starting point for every day. Just amazing.. amazing
Hey Stevie, Jimmie misses you along with DT. RIP my man! I'll see you and your daddy one day down In Dallas. The world misses you sharing your music with them/ Wish you were still here. We miss you Happy you got to play all around the world for the time you did. RIP SRV
Is it just me or are Stevie’s vocals much better once he was sober. His vocals were always superb but in this video they are just incredible! Very very solid!
4:30 beating on that thing like a rented mule. Never have I seen anyone with as much emotion when they play as SRV. Smh....what an amazing musician......singer and player alike.
I have watched this countless times. PURE GOOSEBUMPS, a spine chilling rendition of one of Stevie's best songs ever. love to everyone who carries the blues through this lost generation.
The way Stevie holds the note once he knows the string broke just long enough for Jimmie to come to the rescue!!! AWESOME!! Then Stevie goes straight back in for the kill when he gets the replacement AXE by playing behind his back again but this time harder and faster with more passion!!!!!!! unbelievable performance one of my favourites that i always come back too.
Stephen Ray Vaughn is legendary, best of the best, the people he played for were not always as intense as he, when Folks get to drinking too much, there are incidents that sometimes get out of Control, especially when the Music Moves them so vividLy! I love him and his Music personally, and loved the way he stopped the Drugs and Drinking, to tell his brothers as sisters how much they meant to him! 😎🎶🙇🙏🌹💖🌷We are on the same page, my Dearest Friends! Stevie probably the most passionate guitar player that ever lived the fire the power the intensity like no other no one plays like this good God that is just Amazing Amen!
Thats the best S**T ive ever seen in 44 years of listening and watching blues and rock. This and Chicago's 25 or 624 live is the absolute best guitar playing ive ever seen in my life. God bless SRV hes the best ever. Period. Class dismissed.
I remember back in about 1980 a super cool biker, civil engineer tech. from Texas that I worked with (in South Carolina) turned me on to Stevie Ray. Lord have mercy, I'm so glad he did. Been listening to him ever since. Still listen in the truck and watch his UA-cam vids from various sources. Miss you Stevie Ray. Fate took you way way too soon.
I love how he snaps a string while playing behind his back, changes guitar and then puts the new guitar behind his back to finish where he left off! Legend.
Good god this man was the greatest period!..No one can match what he puts into a song..NOONE!...His brother is in reverse compared to SRV..SRV is just kicking everyone's ass..They should all put down their guitars and watch a master at work..
Stevie and Frank were very different in their approach to guitar... Frank was a very good Blues guitar player, but he experimented A LOT outside the Blues! Examples: - Down in the Dew, - Filthy Habits, etc... And yes he was a guitar genius! But on another hand, even though Stevie only played Blues, well I've never seen or heard someone play the Blues with more passion, intensity, emotion and virtuosity! So, instead of saying that one was better than the other, I would just say that they are both different...
mad respect - I cant say anything that hasn't been posted here already - it is so cool to see so many people here that realize just how special this guitar blues man was.
I worked for Stevie in the 80’s…and EVERY show was amazing..saw him get sober..the best was when Greg Allman opened up for him..magical nights..miss him..imagine what he would be doing now??
See my comment about the dislikes. Basically that is the conclusion of many a guitarist. Those few who could not handle this fact hate him for it and clicked the dislike icon.
You speak of Legends..you got it..Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimmie Vaughan..the band is fantastic..Stevie is so energized and his guitar playing and singing is awesome as it can get..RIP Stevie..you were SENSATIONAL on all your performance's..you are MISSED
He said he couldn't read a lick of music and it made him a little nervous because he rarely played a song the same way twice. He didn't want people thinking he forgot the music. He said he just always played what he felt at the moment. Pure talent.
One of those musicians whose passing makes you remember exactly what you were doing when you heard the news. Last time I saw him was I believe his last New York appearance. It was benefit concert, he sat down on edge of stage solo and played "Little Wing." He was gone a couple of weeks later. Damn.
What a beautiful sight it is to see, both Vaughn brothers on stage together. I felt such enormous pride when I saw this! Rest in Heavenly Peace 🎸 Hero of all time!!! ❤🌹
From the very first note you could hear how clean he is/was. A Stevie not held back by anything and anyone, drugs alchohol women. His most powerful performance recorded imo. And the last time he played lenny was smooth and on a whole new level.
SRV " The Legend you can't beat it ,, he looks so Freaking Sharp & cool in that Black suit man WOW he's one of the best guitarist that ever was in our time there's no one like him I would say the only others we still have in very few many now like ' Eric Clapton " Buddy , B.B. It's not hard to believe that so many he looked up to, idolized him. I heard Erick Clapton say the first time he heard SRV, he was driving and had to pull off to the side of the road.
I have seen most of the great guitar players live. Saw Clapton live in MSG 2015. He is the only guitar player that I have seen that made the hair stand up on my arms his playing goes through you. He was 70yrs old at this time. He also does not have big ego just calm and reserved. He has open the door for many young guitar players. Very given man. Was good friends with SRV.
If i could i would rather be born in this time then i am now. Im only 17, but he is my biggest inspiration! I would rather see him live then have cell phones and video games and all the stuff we have here
i think steve vaughan brought a certain albert king-fueled guitar style and blues frenzy to its absolute height and width...this music that he gave us simply cannot be matched, let alone improved on. this is blues guitar pushed to an intensity and intelligence that stuns the admiring listener and leaves him confused, ie how could this sort of thing even be possible? the deepest punch of blues, twisting and snaking with terrific effect and authority....and these lines of blues power just came out endlessly, as if from a vein that ran up from the delta and into chicago, wrapped itself boa-like around albert king, and settled into stevie, finally at home and propelling him and the music into the stratocasting band of blue music that surrounds us.....
Absolutely Great review of Stevies playing, I agreed with every word.......lol.......I just had to touch base with someone who obviously loved him as much as I do.......Cheers
Every time I see a video of SRV i'm just blown away from his talent. Frickin amazing. My biggest guitar influence. Where are you Stevie when we need you the most. R.I.P.

I love Rory gallagher too
Stevie yes al di miela yes mc glauflin totally but dont forget what really went down

SRV had the best "blues guitar face" of anybody. Damn I miss that guy. I damn near cry every time I hear him.
And so do I my friend.
Another wet face here.
As Carlos Santana put it, 'If they can't see the note you're playin' in your face, you're not playin' it!'
That, my friend, is what you call the stank face. As someone here has already eluded to, if the notes can’t be seen in your face, are you really even playing?

I know I'm a few years late to reply to your post it to answer you they were on point and precise. He was the best o my lord. Y
Had to be the then-current high point of his meteoric rise to Legend: Playing a fellow Texan's Presidential Inaugural Ball with the Iceman introducing you & your brother playing back-up to witness your greatness!
I disagree, I thought he overdid them here (tried too hard?), didn't sound as good compared to the el mocambo version, those vocals were really good
@@the90schild1 I disagree
@@the90schild1 it’s not only that I disagree with you, it’s that you are incorrect.

Texas Flood , nothing better I don't care where or what you see. That's Stevie's . Go ahead brother. Great Love.
No one ever attacked a guitar like Stevie. Best guitarist of all time.
