  • In this video I embark on a 72 hour water fast where I abstain from solid food and only drink water for three days! I discuss WHY I would do such a thing, the benefits I was looking for, and the final results. Most importantly, I take you with me day by day so you can see and hear what my experience was like, good and bad. Armed only some nuggets of pink Himalayan salt and copious amounts of water, I set off on this liquid journey to discover if the hype of this FAST is real...
    Steps I followed
    - 48-36 Hours Before the Fast - Prepare Your Body with low fat, low carb food
    - Only drink water, with a little pink salt for electrolytes
    - 12 Hours Fasting - Enter the Metabolic State
    - 18 Hours Fasting - Switch to Fat-Burning Mode
    - 24 Hours Fasting - Autophagy
    - 48 Hours Fasting - Increase gut health Levels
    - 54 Hours Fasting - Insulin Levels Drop to Lowest Point
    - 72 Hours Fasting - Generation of New Immune Cells and lower inflammation
    - After the Water Fast - Go low and slow in first 36 hours with healthy foods

I started my 3 day water fast on Friday the 29th. I ended Monday April 1st in the morning. I was under a renal Doctor's supervision. I had baseline bloodwork before and then again drawn on Monday. The blood results showed a marked improvement. I lost 10 pounds and only had mild gastric irritation. I was drinking black coffee and that more than likely was the cause. I also had green tea without cream or sweetner in the coffee or tea. I actually did 3 days and 10 hours because I had to wait and get blood drawn. Post fast I am drinking smoothies or Juices for 48 hours. Then my regular Mediterranean Diet. For me 3 days is enough and every 3 months I can do another fast. I do have health issues but with a good diet and fasting seems to be keeping me stable. I am also implementing 16:8 intermittent Fasting. I am 65 .

I had further bloodwork completed and showed improvement. The weight stayed off and is going down. I am exercising on a stationary bike and using exercise resistance bands for toning up. I had planned to do only 2 - 3 day water fasts a year but have decided to do one every 3 months. I will update.

Hey David, you inspired me with just the announcement of this last week and I was waiting for this video of yours to post and you posted while I'm in the middle of a fast. I am now 41 hours into my 3 day water fast with Himalayan pink salt and yes a coffee to start the day! My worst part was hunger headaches the first evening after 18-20 hours. A little blah and draggy earlier today (Day 2) but a nap cured that. Tomorrow is day 3! Thanks for the inspiration for this particular trip to Shrublands. We're both the same age so I look forward to my results.

Two things I would add: 1) it's ok to have black coffee (or black tea). It does not break your fast. Obviously no sugar or cream (or artificial sweeteners). And 2) I would recommend adding potassium and magnesium to your electrolyte intake. Edit - I wrote my comment before I finished. I see you added coffee. 👍

    That was fascinating!
Last year, I was told I had Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.
To be honest it scared so much I completely changed my diet in a matter of days.
I lost over 11lbs in about 8 weeks.
By the time of the second round of tests, there was a almost complete improvement in my liver health.

I’ve kept to the diet, but the weight loss has stubbornly stopped.
But I’d like to lose another 3 lbs, so this is just the sort of thing I’d like to try.
    Brilliant. Very inspiring, thank you.
I like that this channel can also be a Bondesque lifestyle channel too.
Please keep up the great work.

Champ! I did this last month and had similar results to you. I did keep my 2 a-day black coffees, its a god send for suppressing the appetite. I was fairly active and did some swimming during and a HIIT circuit hours after breaking it, no issues. only tough period was around the 48 hr mark , I think the mind is in gear on the last day as we realise it's nearly over! good points... better to crunch on some salt than taste it in water. I broke with a salmon omelette. Would recommend introducing meat no earlier than the following day

So I'm glad to say that I survived my 72-hour water fasting. Glad to be part of the club. I was afraid of suffering with hunger pains and headaches but in fact I wasn't hungry at all and didn't have a single headache. It was surprisingly easy for me. Losing weight was not my goal but I tracked the loss and at the end I lost 008 pounds. Definitely the most important thing was to learn that I can eat better paying attention to what I eat and having smaller portions. My plan now is to make this part of my routine fasting one day per week. Thank you for your video, David. Great stuff!!!

This is fascinating and I have to try this! I had serious gut issues from LOTS of antibiotics due to 4 separate Lyme's disease infections over a 10 year period, ending 2016. Although I did a successful medically supervised program of high probiotics to rebuild my gut flora a few years ago, I wonder if some of my current issues are from this time. I did a 38 hour fast and it was awful but I really have to try this. Problem is that I am a foodie and a cook. Can I do it if I have one shot of espresso in the morning? That could make it easier.

I did something similar, gut health, but with food. Just selective foods, over a slower period, 30 days. The Plant Paradox diet. All about avoiding inflammation foods. It does work, and i felt better and even lost weight, needed less food. When i got off it, weight came back, but it took several years. If i did it again I'd just have to stick to it better. Sustainability is always the key.

Going three full days without food doesn't seem like a great idea. I tried something akin to this back when I was in my early 20’s. I drank only water mixed with lemon juice and a bit molasses and cayenne pepper. The molasses is to help keep your sugar levels from crashing. It was called The Master Cleanse. Something many people overlook is that your body already has great filtration functions with your kidneys and liver. There is however, evidence to suggest that caloric restriction through intermittent fasting can be useful. And then gradually pushing up to 20 hours without food. This path can help reduce the level of ghrelin hormone that the body produces which can make such efforts easier if done in moderation over time.
If you really want to discern if the effects you’re hoping to achieve are in fact real, I would think medical supervision at the very least would be the best option. Many people try things like this and convince themselves psychologically that something is real with no objective observation from someone qualified to assess the results. Given that you mentioned inflammation and being in contact with your doctor, I’m guessing this base has been covered.
As an effort to test your mettle, I could see this as an interesting exercise. I can tell from previous experience that by day three if not sooner, you’ll likely be feeling quite weak. This will vary from person to person depending on health and the amount of nutrients in long-term storage/white fat cells.
