- FINALLY, after 12 years in the making, I acquire Bond's Aqua Terra OMEGA watch as seen in the movie SKYFALL. BUT, the road to ownership was not as simple as you might think and in the video I discuss the reasons WHY I sought this watch out, HOW I found the watch, and WHAT I think of the watch now that I own it. I also discus the interesting marketing approach of this piece back in 2012 in relation to it's robust appearances in the movie.

"Honey it's like 2.5mm different, cant you see the difference!?" LOL. In watchmaking parlance that is meaningful! Beautiful timepiece.
people don't realise how good the dials are on this model of Omega, when it is overcast outside the dial appears Teal/Grey and in direct sunlight it is Sunburst blue with black.
AND the bracelet is completely brushed, which imo is better than a polished center link as its less "Flashy" and more quiet luxury.
Plus the movement has an independently set hour hand making it a great travel watch, the current 38.5mm ATs do not have this anymore.

Happy birthday David and congrats on the newest acquisition! The AT has been in my search history a ton lately and may be my next luxury purchase. I love how it can be both dressy and sporty (especially on a rubber strap). Cannot wait for more of your Bond content as we wait for any type of Bond26 news!

Awesome! I am wearing that very watch right now and have always thought it would be perfect for you given how often you wear suits and dinner jackets. It has the most incredible blue dial I've ever seen and thankfully blue is my favorite color.
Congratulations and Happy Birthday. It’s a beautiful watch. I always wanted the Skyfall AT edition as my first luxury timepiece. As I was able to afford it, it was sold out and discontinued. I didn’t want to buy grey or used so I went with the newer version of the AT in 38 mm with the horizontal lines and date window at 6 o’clock for my first luxury timepiece. I do love this piece in my collection and is imo the best Omega out there. As much as I love my version of the AT I think yours is much nicer. It’s a shame that Omega didn’t add the Skyfall version in the regular catalogue, because I think it’s the best version of it so far.

Happy Birthday! I'm so glad you embrace the 38. I tried on the 41 and it looks crazy too big. I also never liked the planet ocean because of the size but I think the Planet Ocean was used before the movement of watches pairing back down to more sensible sizes.

My Grail Bond Watch right here. The Brosnan quartz omega was the first to pique my interest. This one was the one that solidified my love of watches. This watch really is an all around everyday watch in any regard you’d need it for. Glad you could treat yourself to it for your birthday.

I just got the SPECTRE Aqua Terra for mine, and love mine. I agree that the AT is such a unique watch compared to the other Bond Watches. I was always drawn to this after seeing Skyfall. If I'd not got the Casino Royale Diver I would have got this at the time! I especially love the edging date dial on this which is removed from the SPECTRE Aqua Terra.
From memory, in Skyfall in the underground scenes Omega had posters up, again for the Planet Ocean and not the Aqua Terra.

i hav the modern aquaterra 38.5mm in white .. i love it .. and i love that is not the blue i think is cosplaying very well the aquaterra used in the movies but not bieng exactly lik that ! congrats on your new aquaterra david! cheers!

The blue on this dial is impeccable. Especially in different lighting throughout the day. It is a classy looking watch. Enjoy it!
David, there have been so many Omega bond watches now since the Brosnan era and this one seems to be getting a lot of love from collectors, for obvious reasons. What I would love to know is how many units of each watch featured have sold. Can you get that information? This is your quest. Maybe Lorenzo is the man to team up with.
I know it may be difficult for some of the older ones and the Skyfall PO units will be for the stainless steel one, not the titanium in the film, but, can you do it??

I’m not part of the Bond communities but I am part of the AT community. It’s a fabulous watch with an amazing dial. I have the current version with the date at six o’clock and horizontal plank effect dial, which I prefer. I have a Planet Ocean 39.5mm blue dial too but the AT is the one I wear more often.

As far as marketing, I think it's simple why they marketed the PO over the Aqua Terra. You hit the nail on the head. Revenue point was higher, but dive and sport watches were far more in trend and mainstream at that time than others. Plus, the Omega dive-style watches were tied to Bond since Goldeneye. That is what made the two brands synonymous.
As you noted, he wears this watch for most of the film. In fact, it's the only watch he wears from the time he returns from "enjoying death" through the siege at Skyfall and at the end when he receives M's bulldog. I wish they would have given us at least one closeup of the beautiful dial like the Rolex Submariner was shown in Goldfinger.
beautiful, and you did right to go for the 38,5 mm....I once had the 41,5 mm on my 7 inch wrist and honestly it looked like a pizza plate ´cause it is all dial and only a very thin bezel....well done!

Yes, 38mm is much better with suits. The Aqua Terra is still a sports watch though but it's better with semi formal and you can get away with formal wear. Sean Connery's original Rolex Submariner Ref. 6538 was only 37mm. That's why he could get away with wearing with a suit.

It wouldn’t surprise me is in Skyfall he sold his Planet Ocean to get a direct plane ticket back to London as he wouldn’t have enough money maybe on him casually for it after going so far off the grid. Then when he got back bought the new watch.
38.5mm-40mm is the sweet spot for most wrists, I think.
It's my favorite watch of the Craig era, so I commend you on your choice.
Your video made me convinced that this might just be the most beautiful out of all the Craig Bond watches! That blue looks so much better than it does on Omega marketing materials. Personally, I’m gonna get the 2220.80 first though (the Casino Royale SMP300m)

The expensive suits and watches. Expensive cars and locations. Everything Bond, but there's always something missing... where's the gun? Bonds gun is, to me, way more important and iconic than almost anything else, and yet, it's completely ignored here. As a huge gun guy, this baffles me. Even though I think the Walther PPK is very outdated and not that great of a gun... if I'm being honest. But it's still classic and legendary, and I'd love to see it since it is, after all, a huge part of Bond lifestyle.

I like the Omega marketing in the Craig ERA, but whilst they switched it up there is not really a watch that stands out. The best watch vs Bond connection is with Pierce Brosnan Seamaster, that connection is so strong, i would like this for future bonds to have 1 watch. It reflects us more, we have a lot of watches but gravitate to a number 1 watch in our collection veryoften. Which I would expect bond to do, the watch as a companion it never leaves him and needs to suit all situations. I found Brosnans Seamaster did this more than others!

I think it's probably good with a suit but it's not a dress watch and I wouldn't wear it with a Tux personally
It's better than a 41mm Seamaster or 42mm Planet Ocean with a tux. Which is what Craig's Bond typically wore (except for Skyfall!)

Outside of Bond, Omega would've faded away by now. To be honest, most of their watches neither hold their value nor demonstrate superior quality to Longine, Breitling, and Tudor, which are all priced lower than Omega. I think people who are loyal to only one brand cannot really call themselves watch enthusiasts. After watching this video, I went through some of your other videos on watches and realized that if it was not for Bond, you probably would just own an Apple Watch.
Up to recently Tudor used ETA movements, Longines uses ETA, the new Breitling Superocean uses Selita movements. There is nothing inferior about Omega to these brands.
I don't own an Omega but if money was no option I'd get an Omega diver than one from the other 3 brands you mention. Sadly, even used, the prices stay high so I don't know why you think they don't hold value well.
Their Speedmaster is the most iconic chronograph there is, their complete diver range + aqua terra are well respected * loved, their co-axiel escapement is some great technology, almost all their watches are COSC certified...

You cannot be serious. And I say that as someone who has owned (or currently owns) Longines, Tudor, and Breitling. None of them hold their value if purchased brand new. The only mass produced watch company that does hold value is Rolex and I've owned those too. My Omegas are every bit as good as any Rolex I've ever had. In fact better, since the dreaded 32XX movement issue struck my brand new Rolex. I've since divested myself of Rolex. But you're free to collect what you want.
@@DannyKaffee I never said they hold their value or are more valuable than Omega. I said their quality is the same as Omega but at a cheaper price point. You are not paying for better quality when paying more for an Omega.
@@user-cv9iu2eo2t I've owned all of the brands you named and I would disagree with you. That said, my favorite watch is a Longines Conquest Heritage 1954-2014 Limited Edition. At the end of the day, buy what you want and what you like.
Omega bought into Bond and wants to sell their watches using Bond rather Rolex was used to elevate and create Bond. Think about that.
C'mon man. Rolex pays some of the biggest actors, athletes, and celebrities to sell their watches these days.
