Exercise physiologist here. Fruit is fine if it’s not in a juice. Eating fruit with the skin provides fiber and slows down how quickly the sugar metabolizes in your body, keeping your insulin and blood sugar from spiking. The best fruit to snack on are blueberries because they actually curb sugar cravings

I've heard it's also good for the higher glycemic fruits to pair them with a fat or protein, like some nuts or cheese. I have blueberries every day with kefir and either oatmeal, eggs, or a low sugar cereal.

Thank you, David, you’re doing the Lord’s work here mate! I’m 23 years old and now having the time of my life! I used to workout for like three hours a day in the evening and then eat whatever a came across, so I was always in a skinny fat stage. With your workout and nutrition tips during the whole Bond 25 fitness challenge, I’ve managed to get a lean, healthy, and functional body, and that has improved my mood tremendously! now I workout first thing in the morning before work, so I have to wake up at 4 am and that has fixed my sleep schedule too! Since it was all messed up during college. Keep up the amazing content!

I quit eating meat a few years ago and never looked back. Also dropped from 250lbs to 180. That said, I really don't think it was eating no meat, but filling in the gaps with whole food fruit and vegetables. You can be a junk food vegan, or you can eat fresh fruit and vegetables every day and enjoy some Greek yogurt, and moderate cheese and eggs like I do. Also, don't forget the whole grains. Oatmeal with berries every morning. The fiber isn't only good for "movement", it feeds the good gut flora.

Never thought I'd be a fan of spinach until watching a crossfit athlete fry some with eggs. It tastes similar to seaweed and now I enjoy it both fried and fresh with light dressing, raisins, nuts and grapes. The Mediterranean diet is appealing as I am a big fan of fish/seafood, fruits, nuts (cashews in particular), vegetables and Italian food is my favorite. Combine the solid diet with four to five days a week at the gym, ample time on the Concept 2 rowing machine and outdoor recreation, hopefully I'll have more of Bond's physique opposed to Oddjob's :)

The cool thing about these kinds of videos is, it’s truly a lifestyle including in the decisions we make, like how we eat and how we train haha. I track my macros, lift weights 3 to 4 days a week and like to ride my stationary bike, as well as go for walks. I’ve gotten a lot leaner and feel more healthy. Great video David!

My nutrition journey has been a journey for me. I used to be a competitive swimmer and could eat anything and everything and not worry about putting on a pound. When I "retired" I almost put on 10-15 pouds before I put together a plan. I combine the slow carb diet from "The 4 Hour Body" with intermittent fasting and "Fit Men Cook." I try to limit my carbs and focus on veggies, beans/lentils for lunch and dinner, I have a heavier meal that has meat in addition to more veggies.

I try to eat the exact same thing every day from when I wake up till the end of work, that way I know exactly where my macros are before dinner, at which point I let myself eyeball it more or less. I’m blessed to have a freezer full of elk which is a staple in our diet. Something about wild meat just makes you feel better than farmed meat. Lastly, minimum 1 gallon of water per day no matter what.

Great advice, David. I share some similar views as you on nutrition. Here are the main things that have worked for me (some of which you already discussed):
    1. Portion control. Standard meal sizes in the US are usually too big. If you’ve ever traveled to Europe, for instance, you’ll see the difference! Adjust your meal portions so you’re not over-eating.
    2. Slow down. It takes approx. 20 minutes from when you start eating for your brain to send you the signal that you’re full. It’s very easy to over-eat when you go too fast.
    3. Cut out soda/sugary drinks. They’re even worse than sugary foods because they have zero nutritional value; at least with foods you’re getting some sort of sustenance. In place of soda, I drink a lot of sparkling water such as LaCroix, along with just regular water.
    4. Junk food and sweets should be viewed as occasional treats, not dietary staples. As a general rule, keep them out of the house, so you’re not tempted.
    5. Life’s too short to deprive yourself of something. Treat yourself (in moderation) on a regular basis.

I wanted to take a moment to reach out and connect with you. As someone from Perth, a city you are no doubt familiar with, it is rare for me to come across an American who is also familiar with my hometown.

Currently, I am following a high protein, lower calorie diet to help me shred a little, and your videos have been an invaluable resource for me.

Love the nutrition ideas and baseline rules. Telling yourself “I’m not someone who eats/drinks this or that” is very powerful psychology to apply to remain disciplined and consistent.
Also would be great to see Danielle’s recipe book (if they aren’t for her eyes only…) I live by the same philosophy that I’m not a model, celebrity, or fitness influencer so I allow myself to indulge in less healthy options in moderation (ordering out 2 dessert maybe 1-2 times per week). Keeps me as sane as an hour on the dream machine.

I'll be turning 58 in June. I lost my younger brother and two close friends in the past two years. All three deaths were a result of neglecting/not prioritizing health and fitness. I've always been a fitness minded person (I'm a retired Marine Infantry Officer) but not necessarily regarding my diet. Since the New Year, I've been doing intermittent fasting where I limit my eating to a fixed window normally between 11AM and 7PM at night. It's pretty simple. Skip breakfast and don't eat two hours before going to sleep. I've found that the adage that breakfast is the most important meal of the day is a lie, unless you're a person like a farm hand, who expends a lot of calories in the morning. I've gone for 20 + mile road cycles without eating breakfast and my energy is not affected. I try to eat a high protein, fiber/vegetable heavy, low/moderate carb, low sugar diet. So far so good! Give it a try David! Thanks for all the great content!

I have the fight club body maintained throughout the year.
I eat below maintenance every day, I 16/8 basically daily, and most importantly I get every vitamin and mineral required in my eating windows.
I can’t recommend anything more than fasting for taking control of your habits and therefore journey
Unfortunately for the Bond body, alcohol just can’t really be around more than once / twice a month - something has to give.

One thing that I do every day is make a kale smoothee with a handful of kale, a cup of frozen fruit, some protein powder, flaxseed, and some stevia and maybe some ginger or other flavoring. You can change it up so it never gets boring.

Great content David! I'm always good at getting to the gym and lifting weights. During the Winter (in Eastern Pennsylvania), I find myself overeating all the great Italian food around me. Each Spring I go on the same slim-down diet. Basic protein and green vegetables. I can drop 10% of my body weight in 3 months.

Another chapter of the Bond experience: David Z takes us to Shrublands!😱
Seriously, all good advice and something that should be lifelong practice.
David, the key you mentioned several times is balance. Bond in Fleming’s books often is out of balance and it is in those times he is in the most danger. Our world is dangerous in the same way as Fleming’s world of WWII and the early Cold War, but individually we are unlikely to face regular life and death situations.
16:33 Thankfully, I left that world years ago, but I remain convinced a mind-body balance is essential for everyone including mere, wretched pensioners like myself.
    Thanks for a great channel!

All great stuff David! Especially eating slowly which is my downfall, I tend to eat too fast. Thanks for the reminder. Sticking to a "diet" is nearly impossible but eating by a few core principles is easy. When I was a personal trainer, I would give these diet principles to my clients instead of an actual diet. 1) If a food has a commercial, don't eat it! 2) If a food has more than 5 to 7 ingredients and you din't make it yourself, don't eat it! 3) If a food has any ingredient you can't pronounce, don't eat it! 4) If a food has an ingredient that has a number in it, REALLY don't eat it! I eat a mostly Mediterranean diet, whole foods, fresh and natural with a lot of cold press extra virgin olive oil. Just like your chicken and spinach bowl.

Always enjoy your nutrition vids David!
I’ve commented several times on many of your vids and IG posts pertaining to this subject.
I’ll be 51 in a few months and proper nutrition and exercise is a continuous struggle for me. A lot of it has to do with just having a “busy” life. Work (12+ hours a day), kids, extracurriculars, etc. I know many of those can turn into “excuses” if I let them. It’s finding that balance that can be difficult. But I don’t give up! I do have a question though. How do you measure calorie intake as far as getting “healthy calories” and not go into a calorie deficit?
Thanks again for this David! 👊🙌

Great video! Doesn't hurt to be reminded to eat slowly. Fruitwise, I do get in some grapefruit juice daily as it might ward off the cove and I also have some blueberries for their antioxidant features (but without the muffin, pancake or other less healthy stuff). When it comes to protein: hello protein shakes, protein bars (sorry, less healthy than whole foods) and more healthy: chickpeas. Vegetables I try to get a variety in to hopefully benefit from all the different micronutrients they contain as well. Do have my daily chocolate pieces, but they contain magnesium (I think), so they're super duper healthy as well.
Not a fan of cooking, so I tend to cook 2 meals in one go to heat up the second one the next day.
And to hopefully not lose too much muscle while being in a calorie deficit, I do strength training to tell my muscles they're still appreciated.

I'm three weeks into a six week shred and I'm already seeing big results. Cut back on the carbs, the only fruit I have is bananas in a smoothie or an apple in a macro bowl, and just started throwing handfuls of spinach into nearly every meal. Cut back on the drinking maybe 20% (not too much, I like my rum). But it's a good feeling to be leaning out.

Great topic!🇫🇮 To be completely honest, Craig has aged terribly. It is perfectly possible to have your health, great body and look young when you're 50 or above. For some reason Bond actors seems to age quite fast.
Edit: What comes to alcohol in general, it's a touchy subject but also a subject that varies wildly from person to person - some people simply digest alcohol with less harm than others. I don't think anyone thinks alcohol is healthy but in moderation for most it is fine.
My diet is mostly vegetables, meat and some fruit and lots of grains. I drink a lot of water - but not so much to flush nutrients in the process. I just take a multivitamin + D-Calcium daily. One think that people 'in the west' seem to forget almost always - portion size. A grown adult male does not eat huge meals - here in the Nordics the portion size is like 1/5 of what peeps in the US eat (I have worked in the US a lot but I live in Finland).
