  • Walther Arms flew me to Arkansas to experience the craftsmanship and heritage of making Bond's weapon of choice, the Walther PPK. But in my wildest dreams I couldn't imagine that I would be able to build my own PPK with the experts that make them on a daily basis! Come with me on the adventure as YOU get a front row seat and SEE what it takes to create Bond's primary tool of the trade...the iconic Walther PPK!

    When David is not running an advertising and marketing company, his hobby is The Bond Experience which is primarily a video blog where he discusses Bond experiences and the people and brands that help to create those experiences...
    The mantra of living like Bond, one moment at a time emanates from a concept of experiencing the joy of collecting small moments in life that add up to amazing journeys and stories....whether it's through style, locations, literature, fitness, and the movies themselves the world of Bond is explored through its people and their stories.
    Ultimately though, The Bond Experience channel is a celebration of the James Bond franchise and the many people that form a true community. Our core mission is to create a strong connection in the Bond community amongst all the fans, regardless of interest or demographic.

    I waited three days before watching this video because I wanted to put it on the big screen, have a nice drink, and really pay attention. Two of my favorite Bond creators - two people I consider friends - doing something REALLY COOL!
    I also enjoyed it being filmed in Arkansas. I spent some time doing business in Northwest Arkansas (the "Silicon Valley of the Midwest" I was told.) it's actually a fascinating part of America. The Crystal Bridges museum is incredible. It houses world-class American artwork. There's even a Frank Lloyd Wright house there which got moved brick by brick from Millstone, which is just down the road from me in New Jersey.
    My son and I LOVE watching videos by Caleb and his peers like Ian from Forgotten Weapons so it was cool to see you briefly cross over into that territory!

If I may after watching your video from a few years ago when you were at a gun range with another Bond contributor and by your own honest admissions to being a 'novice' can I suggest you take a class(es) in firearm handling. You don't have to achieve "Double-O" status but, having been around firearms all my life and a retired Police Officer I know you could be much more comfortable and knowledgeable with your firearm with alittle instruction (Just trying to help a friend.).

  • @thepenultimateninja5797
    @thepenultimateninja5797 Місяць тому +5

    I'm a bit frustrated with Walther.
    They have made modifications to the design to try to bring the PPK up to date and make it a viable carry gun, but that's not why most people buy a PPK.
    Walther Arms, if you're reading this, people who buy the PPK aren't looking for a Bersa Thunder, they want history.
    They either want to own a WWII pistol, or they want James Bond's gun.
    Please, please make a PPK with the old style frame (no beavertail) and a blued finish.
    Offer grips in both black and mottled brown, with matching magazine extensions in the original design.
    Continue to make it in .380 ACP, but offer.32 ACP too (I believe this would only require a different barrel, magazine and extractor).
    There is a big market for historical/famous guns. Look at the re-release of the SIG P210 for example, or the various GI spec 1911s. There has even been a re-release of the original Glock 17.
    You don't have to stop making the current modernized PPK, but please consider making Bond's gun too.

    • @SmithDrewSmith
      @SmithDrewSmith Місяць тому +1

      I agree 100% with this. Maybe Caleb can pass it along? I had a pre-war .32ACP PPK, and that thing was super fun to shoot.

    If anyone wants one as a home prop without actually having a real gun, consider getting a Umarex PPK BB gun. Know your laws on BB guns in your area. They go about $100 maybe less in the USA.

    • @thepenultimateninja5797
      @thepenultimateninja5797 Місяць тому +1

      I have the CO2 version, and it's not a bad replica.
      The only things I don't like about it are the fact that it is a replica of the PPS/S, not the PPK, and the fact that they elongated the grip to cover the area that would be the magazine pinky rest on the real gun.
      I am baffled as to why they did this, because it serves no purpose, and makes the grip look really weird.
      I actually cut off the excess grip on mine, and it looks a lot better.

    • @SmithDrewSmith
      @SmithDrewSmith Місяць тому

      @thepenultimateninja5797 the BB extended mag well is likely to allow the CO2 cylinder to fit. I too would have preferred a different design with the smaller CO2 cylinder, even at the expense of fewer shots between changes.

    • @thepenultimateninja5797
      @thepenultimateninja5797 Місяць тому

      @@SmithDrewSmith You're right that the grip needs to be longer than on a standard PPK to accommodate the CO2 cylinder, but that's not what I'm talking about.
      For some reason, they extended the grips all the way down to the end of the grip, and there was just no need to do that.
      The grip is only about the same length as that of the PPK/S, so they could just have made the grip panels the normal length.
      The plastic part sticking out below the grips resembles the plastic finger rest that is found on some PPK/S magazines.
      Find a photo of PPK/S with the plastic magazine finger rest and pop the grip off your CO2 PPK and you'll see what I mean.

    • @SmithDrewSmith
      @SmithDrewSmith Місяць тому +1

      @thepenultimateninja5797 ah, yeah I see what you're talking about, surprised I never noticed that. They could have easily made the grips look normal and disguise the co2 mechanism as a weird magazine extension

    not a big gun person, but i thought this was cool. Bond obviously is a gun guy, although I thought part of what made the early bonds great (and superior to the post Dalton ones) was that Bond more often than not killed using his wits and whatever was available, even if it was a gadget, a la Moonraker or the air pellet thing in L&LD. By the time of Bronsnan, and Bond is spraying multiple magazines of machine guns in Tomorrow Never Dies, I'm pretty much out. Is Man with the Golden Gun the only Bond movie where Bond kills the head baddie with his PP7? i guess he kills Electra in World is not Enough with PP7.
