I never sang the australian national anthem when I was going to school I was the only indigenous person there, My mother told me when I was a kid You can sing the song if you want to, but you don't have to if you don't want to,, There was a lot of people in the school who didn't like it Including the teachers but I didn't care! , Because australian national anthem doesn't represent the Indigenous people! of australia , That's why we got 3 different flags in australia for each race

I'm not British, but you want to take a moment and sign the British National Anthem, what's the problem? Regardless of what country you live in, the citizens there should be allowed to sign their National Anthem without any issue. What can't you in your own country?
It's not people aren't allowed to. It's mandating everyone in schools to do so as a matter of government policy. Piers is fantastic at muddying the water on this and other non issues.

You are allowed to, if you want to sing it at break time as an individual then nothing stops you, but we don’t go out of our way to do it all together, we think education is more important than singing the national anthem (which really isn’t that good of a song) and we aren’t interrupting the lessons just for that reason, nor are we cutting break times short for that reason either.
Btw, in America, all kids DO NOT sing the national anthem in school. That's COMPLETELY untrue.

All countries teach their history in a nationalist way. How is this controversial? People confuse the government and the country. The loyalty is to the country. Symbols like the flag and anthem are weaponized heavily by governments. Unity is not always a good thing. Unity around what? Andrew Rosindell actually thought he caught Ash Sarkar in a gotcha moment when she implied she isn't in love with the institution of monarchy in Britain. And he has the gall to scoff at her? In 2023! What a fool! It really boggles the mind.

The discussion was about another school mandate. In a world where an experimental vaccine was mandated on school children, a mandatory anthem may be wrong-headed but quite mild by comparison.

If you took a poll, I would guess that anyone in the world wouldn't know the second or subsequent verses of their National Anthem. This is because it is rarely, if ever, sung further than the first verse. Only a tenner? Are you extremely poor, or are you not that confident?

As a child in Canada in the 50's, we sang our national anthem AND recited the Lord's Prayer. No harm done to any child.

Well to be fair in Portugal we sing the National Anthem as well at school and its mandatory for every Portuguese national to know it back and forth. Being patriotic and proud of my country is a good thing.
I've been in school from 2000-2011 and still don't know the national anthem of by heart as we were never taught it!
I was in school from the early 70s to the early 80s and I wasn't taught it either, but I still knew it when I was young. There are other ways to learn something other in school.

I won’t sing or stand for the national anthem. The Windsors were great friends with Jimmy Saville and they knew about his dark side. Also we need an anthem about the people and the country not about one person.

Let me be very vlear while my single mother did her absolute best to be all things to me both mother and father and i can tell u she did her best however! I am absolutely capable of saying that there are a good amout of things both can do and I even used to give my mom fathers fay gifts but i didn't say happy father's day DADDY i said happy father's day MOM n that is bec she did her best to play both roles but in the reality she was not daddy just because I did have a dad she was a mom who did her best to fill all the roles i as a child needed filled but that means one yhing only n that is that she was an awesome mother it didn't make her a father
