  • Welcome back to Run4Adventure folks, or if you're new to the channel, we're glad you found us and I hope you enjoy the video!
    We are back today with an exciting comparison video and the reason it's exciting is because it is a head to head with my current two favourite trail running shoes. I've run a combined distance of around 400 miles in the Saucony Peregrine 10 and the Hoka One One Torrent 2, and have been pretty impressed with both models. There's quite a few similarities between the two shoes, but there's a couple of little features in one of them that personally makes it stand out. Check out the video to find out which one of these great trail running shoes comes out on top!
    Really hope you enjoy the video and find it useful! We've left links below for both shoes if you want to find out any more information. It would also be great to hear your feedback, so if you've run in either Saucony Peregrine 10 or Hoka One One Torrent 2, get in the comments below and let us know how it performed.

      Hi Dean
      If it's 50/50 trail and road in a single run then yes both these shoes can handle that. Obviously if one day you're doing a road run and then the next day you're doing a trail run then maybe not. If its the latter you probably need a raid running shoe and a trail shoe 😊

    I'll add my voice to the chorus of recommendations for the Peregrine. Bought a pair largely on the strength of the run4adventure review and couldn't be happier. Put around 300km on them so far and am yet to find a situation in which they don't excel. Still relatively early days but they are showing no signs of wear, and unlike Lloyd I don't take great care of my shoes. I've not run an ultra distance in them as yet, but really can't forsee any issues, so they'll definitely be my choice next time my legs are up to the task.

    Not run in Peregrines for years, current go to is the original Torrent, which I love, and I think when they bite the dust they'll be replaced by the Torrent 2. The Peregrine 10 do look and sound like a good shoe but I have a some would say silly rule of not buying shoes that weigh over 300g.

    I've been looking for a shoe to succeed the Nike Terra Kiger 4. The Kiger 4's were my go-to shoes for literally everything in the trails. The Kiger 5 and 6 don't quite work for me and chafe around the ankles. They work for the shorter stuff but I can't wear the newer versions on longer days.
    I ordered a pair of Saucony Peregrine 10's based largely on Loyd's raving reviews. Unfortunately I broke my big toe a few days ago so I'll have to wait to start trying them out, but the Peregrine 10 felt super comfortable straight out of the box. The only little thing is that feels tight is along the big and small toe mounds. I'm pretty sure that's just a matter of getting the lacing right and getting some kilometers in them.
    Can't wait to start giving them a try because I really need a decent replacement for my Kiger 4's.

    Excellent review and very well timed!!! I have been continplating both of these shoes for about a month now. I was to leaning towards Hoka, but the lack of the rock plate concerned me a bit. This does seem to be the year of Saucony, but some other reviewers have dinged the Peregrine 10 ankle collar and tongue as being overly padded, not sure if that would an issue or not for me. How was your experience with either shoe as being overly warm? I think I am ready to pull the trigger on Peregrine 10 tho...😊

      Hi Aaron
      They're both really good shoe's and I'm sure you'd have no issues running in either 👍

      It's a super grippy trail shoe that's for sure. Obviously it's not got a deep, cushioned midsole so you don't want to run to much road in the shoe and It does take a bit of time to bed in so I'm sure it will be OK 👍

    I’m still fairly new to trail running and due to lockdown am limited to local more gentle countryside trails atm (with road running to them). I got a pair of Salomon Wildcross for Christmas which I love (especially with all the mud & snow we’ve been experiencing!) but am looking at getting the Peregrine 10 for my spring/summer dryer ground/all rounder. The irony of lockdown is that I am now running more on path/tarmac to get to new local trails and aware this isn’t what my Wildcross were made for! I am also resting shin splint atm so aware having a pair of shoes with a secure arch support would be good (yes? #amateur)

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Kirsty
      The Wildcross is definitely a soft ground trail running shoe and you definitely want to keep the road mileage to a minimum! I'd say the Peregrine 10 is definitely a better allrounder and can be run all year road. I dare say running on the road in Wildcross probably hasn't helped your shins! Not a lot of protection from the high impact, very repetitive road running environment. I'd always recommend going to a good running specialist and trying lots of trail running shoes on because every shoe is so different 😊
      Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏

    I LOVE the idea of a trail responsive shoe to exhilarate and switch up from the boring road. (God help my knees though...)

      Getting off the road and on the trails will help your knees! Less repetition, softer ground so way more forgiving than running on tarmac 👍
      Have you ever thought about trying a different road shoe? The Kayanos are heavy shoes and have a pretty big heel off set, it's quite a clunky shoe 😊

      went with Kayanos because of their reputation for stability to ease the repetitive over-pronation for a hard road surface. (less important for trail)

    I'm curious what your thoughts are on the ISO upper and why they killed it. I had a quick scan through your video list and don't see anything obvious where you might talk about it. Do you have a video where you discuss it? I've had two pairs of Peregrine ISOs and like them... but my little toe has blown out of both uppers within 350km.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  3 роки тому +1

      There is a bit of content on the ISO fit upper on the channel. I personally think it had a very negative impact on the brand when they started using the ISO fit upper. Before this year where Saucony have made a massive come back they where really struggling as a brand. The reason they were struggling was because they had put the ISO fit upper on pretty much every shoe in their range! So to round it up, I really didn't like it so I'm happy they've got rid of it 👍

    I am currently running in Speedgoat 3 and the Speedgoat EVO. I was thinking about trying the Peregrine or the Terra Kiger 6 (I tried the Wildhorse but it was an ankle roller with that heel). Would you use the Peregrine for a 20k to 25k trail run? Is there enough cushion in the shoe for that? I am 6 foot and 183 pounds (sorry for American measurement system), so I am not the smallest of runners. Also I am 47. At that age you can imagine cushion can be important to me. Thanks.

      I'd definitely use the Peregrine 10 for that sort of distance no problem 👍
      If you choosing between the Peregrine and the Kiger I'd recommend the Peregrine, it has a much better level of grip 👍
      The rubber on the Nike Trail shoes is terrible in the wet and you are so right about the roll on the Wildhorse 😳 Obviously the Peregrine isn't going to give you Speedgoat cushioning!

    I do have a question,
    I have the peregrine 10’s and the Salomon ultra pro’s.
    The ultra pro’s are advertised and accepted in the ultra community as a long distance shoe and the P-10’s haven’t really been considered (by most) for that distance.
    The P-10’s have a considerable more amount of plushness compared to the UP’s.
    Would love to hear your opinion on that.

      Hi Joshua
      You're right but I think a lot of it is because of the name of the Salomon shoe and Salomon advertise the shoe for that distance. I personally think the Peregrine 10's are a much better shoe for distance! I'm not a fan of the Ultra Pro, I think the upper us uncomfortable and the midsole is to firm! 😕
      Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🙏

    @ScottMoyse 3 роки тому

    Also... how have you found the standard insole in the 10 when running downhill with wet feet? The insole in the ISO just slides on the midsole and stacks up in the toe box under your feet... I had to get different insoles to stop it... I felt like that was a big oversight in a trail shoe for which the odds are extremely high you will be running downhill with wet feet.
