The new Saucony Peregrine 11 is solid trail offering for those looking for a low, responsive and protective trail ride. Plenty of grip and a new upper make this possibly the best Peregrine yet. But, is it enough to make the shoe stand out in a sea of trail offerings? What do YOU think about the Peregrine series? While I've tested many of them, this is one of the few video reviews I've done and frankly, it's long overdue!

Hello Ethan! I really like the fact that you brought specific comparisons to comparable models from other brands in this video... which is something I think you could do more often. I know you always do a great job comparing a new model to its predecessor, but for me it is equally important to know how the new model stacks up vs competitors. I bought 2 pairs of Sense Pro 4 on sale at Black Friday so I was happy to hear that I have the « scalpel » shoe of the bunch!

I have 2 pairs of the 10 GTX that I run during the colder months and in snow. The gortex helps keep the feet warm. They seem to hold up very well so far close to 200 miles on them. I have a pair of the 11's but have not run in them yet. I agree on that color scheme. I opted for the "gravel/black" version.

There are certainly some things I would change about the fit of the Peregrine 11, but I don't think it can be understated just how good the Saucony rubber is. It is more durable than Megagrip and just as sticky. I have about 125 miles on a pair of these, 50 of which I did at Frozen Head in a combination of snow, ice, and mud. The soles of these shoes were amazing for that.

  • @Caladesi143

I am not a runner shoe snob like a lot of people out there, just want a shoe that will hold up to the miles i put on them. A lot of people recommended Brooks Ghost 12 or Adrenaline.
I do 8-12 miles a day in the deep sand on the beach. The Ghost 12's i have fall apart in a short amount of time; salt, sand and surf absolutely destroy them. I have gone through three pairs like water . . . and at $130 a pair they were just getting cost prohibitive.
So I bought a pair of these Peregrine's on sale $45 at Fit2run in god awful orange/turquoise and I absolutely love them. They grip the sand and propel me like cleats for a wide receiver. The rubber exterior holds up to the surf and deep sand. So far they are more then I could have dreamed for. I just need to get a pair in a more muted color scheme.
    I HIGHLY recommend them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am 115kg and enjoy trail running. However I roll my ankles regularly due to weak ankles. I tried the speedgoat 4s for cushioning, but due to the stack height, rolled my ankle so bad it put me out of action for 3 months. I purchased these, lower stack height, Great grip, protection from sharp stones etc (if not a bit like running on a grippy chopping board) but they do the job and I love going out in them, knowing my rolled ankle risks are minimised. Just my two cents.

Pwrrun is basically a plain EVA midsole with a very thin soft tpu Pwrrun+ topsole for underfoot comfort. This is a good concept for short to medium distances but with the tpu topsole being very thin the shoe becomes very hard and uncomfortable all of a sudden on a long run. Not pleasant at all

I ran in the Peregrine 10, even ran en 100 miler in it.
I think your comments on it being a responsive, grippy good-at-all-excels-at-none description is pretty good. The Peregrine 10 was a tad heavy for what it offers for my taste. I eventually found it didn't quite grab my heel as I wanted it too, leading to blistering. Not ideal when running ultras. I've ended up using my Peregrine 10's for nearly weather and muddy conditions, as they perform a hell of a lot better than my Speedgoats in those conditions.
For me the Peregrine 10 got nearly everything right. If only it could drop maybe 30 grams somewhere and get the heel right I wouldn't look at any other shoe again. I'm not sure the 11 has solved any of those issues, which leaves me with a shoe that has the same issues as the last version. Saucony is releasing an Endorphin trail shoe later this year. It's apparently very similar in weight, outsole and stack, but it's supposed to have s vastly different midsole which makes the experience completely different.

My favorite was the Peregrine ISO and I have well over a thousand miles in three pairs. I feel like the 10 went down hill. The 11 is an improvement on the 10, but not as great as the ISO.

    • @grunnergname3813
      @grunnergname3813 3 роки тому

To me, ISO (ver 9) sole was too plushy. Peregrine 10 has better control over rocky passages and navigates easier in harsh terrain, because of the ground feel. In ISO, ver 10, the heel tends to slip out and overall lock in the shoe was more on the confy side but not the security. Ver 10, hope the same for 11, is natural racer to me.

I like the color scheme, the tread and protection. HOWEVER, when they went with a more narrow toe-box around the Peregrine 8, they lost me as a customer. I feel if they make a change like that, they should provide more options for a wide version, not just one color. Great review! Meh, shoe.

Yes, Yes!!! make an endorphin trail shoe please! EPB (if you can make it hold up out on the trails) would be perfect...light, great rebound, and can make with great cushion without making it heavy. The nylon/carbon plate could double as a rock plate. Been running in the Endorphine Speed for about 5 months and really loving it. Not sure what the speedroll would feel like out on the trail, and I've tended to prefer 4mm drop on the trail vs the 8mm in the Endorphine. I've contemplated buying a second pair of endorphine speeds in black just to see what they would do on the trail. I think without some additional lug protection the exposed EPB may get chewed up by the rocks and roots though.

Peregrine 7 was my first trail shoe, and I loved it. That said I’m now over 45 and the midsole in the 10 beats me to death. You mentioned the Catamounts, but I find their midsole so much better than Peregrines. Of course they suck in mud/wet (Brooks give me Catamounts with Peregrine traction?). Looking forward to the future Speed Trails and hoping the new Speedgoat is more like the EVO or 3, instead of 4.

  • @philippecarrier

Bought the Peregrine 11 GTX for winter running and they're disappointing overall for the reasons you've given. Good traction and protection from the elements, buy really no give at all from the midsole, which becomes even harder and unforgiving in the cold. Long runs have been a pain and I've been pulling out summer shoes whenever I can instead of using the Peregrines. I even resort to putting the Peregrines on the radiator for 20 minutes to soften the foam. Like you, I've been wondering where Saucony's Endorphin trail shoes are. I'm running in Endorphin Speeds this winter whenever I can. That foam is amazing in the cold.

I have bought like 3 versions of these and love them, my favorite shoe for rocky trails. I feel like I can walk up a rock face in them, very stable and reliable grip. However... sadly I always have the same issue with them - the lugs/outsole starts tearing apart. I always have to glue them, then another part tears off, add more glue, etc... Maybe because I'm heavier, 240, but the outsole just doesn't hold up for me.

    • @grunnergname3813

Peregrine ISO (aka 9) was outsole that use to get cracks at the bare, uncovered sections of rockplate. But regarding the ver.10 this ha been resolved and the outsole get worned as the last part of the shoe. I'm running 1/2 rocky, 1/2 flow trails.

Not entirely true with narrowness of Peregrine 11/10. They are rather true to size and normal fit. I have really wide forefoot but regular wide at mid section and the half size up fits to me perfect. Peregrines lock the foot well in the mid part, so if your mid foot is wide too, there you may feel some tightness, but I don't. Keep in mind they asks for 4-5 runs to loose their initial stifness and then they are good to go for 100k race.

Hi Kelly, I have just retired mine Peregrines ver 10 after 470 miles. Outsole still looked fresh and almost unweared, but there becoming fabric tears arround the flex point where the forefoot rubber collar ends. They were still runable but I wanted to keep them in my hall of fame as one of the best trail shoes I ever had, so did not wracked them completelly. I'm excited about trying the new ver 11. It looks pretty same except they exactly addressed the weak point and gave it actually more durable fabric that reminds me the one known from Solomon Speedcross one, unbreakable fabric by the way. I quess the new fabric on Peregrine 11 may give the shoe life another 100 miles or so.

Yes exactly, I am with you, it becomes great shoe after 40km and excelent after 100km. Give it a time to break in an you will tell me you never had better trail shoe than this. It gets better with time unlike other shoes.

Ethan, thanks for the great review. Keeping it real as always. I’m currently running in the Peregrine ISO, picked them up last summer and overall I don’t have any real complaints. I guess the only thing that I wished were improved is the width of the toe box. I have flat/wide feet and a little more room would be a game changer for me. Any recommendations for trail shoes that could accommodate my size 15 flat/feet?

  • @hexfire

I feel that you have come to condone with what Saucony has been doing with their shoes in cushion department, some of which, in particular, are not (or no longer) as cushioned . Remembering your recent reviews for latest Kinvara which you loved so much, one could expect similar 'why' rating here, but it appears that you've eventually welcomed Saucony in what they are. That said, the review and the rating appears to be more generous and "objective".
Regardless, love your reviews, enjoying all of them. I believe you should take a closer look to Ride which has evolved to the point where it's regarded as a new substitute for what Kinvara has been standing over the years.
    Have great runs!
    Cheers from Russia.

How is the weight compared to the predecessor? Same? Lighter?
Why is the upper material better than its predecessor (3:04), if you didn't have version 10? 🤔
PS: The design is not my thing either.

Dear Mr Ginger - please help! Did you know that even though there are 741 million people in Europe, Saucony just told me "We only have one width, which is the “M” width for the European market. “M” stands for a standard size which is a normal width here in the European Market." !!! What's ridiculous is that shoe research shows that, on average, Europeans actually have wider feet than North Americans. Your reviews are great, they help us choose what to wear, but can you use your huge power to get these products shipped to Europe? Thanks so much.

Hey man, im looking for a trail shoe for slow pitch softball. A lot of people wear Speedcrosses (traction) BUT for me the heel to toe drop (10mm) is way too big as I typically wear minimalist shoes, and the shoes are too narrow. I see the Peregrines are better in both aspects (wider and less drop @4mm) but have slightly worse traction. Are they my best option out there? Is there another shoe that fits the bill even better? Thanks

Does anyone have experience with the peregrine 10 and salomon sense ride 3? I currently run in the peregrine 10 and love it. My longest effort in them is about 12 miles with 5000 feet of gain and at times, I'd like a little more underfoot forgiveness. I'm looking for something to replace my saucony mad river tr (version 1). I know the drop is 8mm on the sense ride and 4mm on my mad rivers, but I'm thinking the peregrines and sense ride 4 will make a great rotation. I have a salomon gift card that I have to use on their site. I'm thinking the peregrine for those quick shorter efforts and the sense ride 4 for those longer and more general training days. For reference, I live in the northeast and we have a bit of every terrain imaginable as well as mud, snow, etc. I spend a lot of time on technical terrain. I love my peregrine's.

    • @karmaforgotme
      @karmaforgotme 3 роки тому

I never ran in them due to fit, but I heard good things about the Sense Ride 3 at 8mm. I have a love and hate relationship with the Pegasus Trail 2 at 10mm. Great midsole and ride, but slightly heavy and so-so traction (I have never tripped more in a pair of shoes running). Still they are so good I pull them out for any non techy trails when I can.
