  • Rhino 7 is the most significant version upgrade for Rhino 3D in its history. There are many new features, including SubD tools (previously only available to users of the now defunct plugin T-Splines or otherwise in applications like 3ds Max, Maya, Blender and ZBrush), Rhino.Inside.Revit (run Rhino and Grasshopper within the BIM modeller Revit®), QuadRemesh (quickly create a quad mesh from NURBS geometry or meshes), new Rhino 7 Presentation tools and much, much more.
    In this Rhino 3D video, Phil Cook from Simply Rhino looks at Rendering improvements in Rhino v7. This includes the ‘Cycles’ Raytrace Render and how we can add Denoiser elements with the new Package Manager in Rhino 7. Finally, the new Physically Based Materials are discussed.

    Would be amazing if you could do a tutorial of render settings for best render times / results. Not new to rendering, but new to using rhino for renders and this would be much appreciated!

    Hi Phil and Co. Thankyou for this very precise and carefull presentation. I would like to see a similar focus on the Groundplane as a Matte-Object/Alpha Contribution a.k.a. V-Ray’s “Wrapper Material” and the Post-Effects possibilities in Cycles Render (Now native to both Rhino and Blender).

    • @SimplyRhino3D
      @SimplyRhino3D  3 роки тому

      Hi Tim. You can achieve the V-Ray ‘Wrapper’ Effect in Rhino. If you use the Rhino Ground Plane then you can set this to ‘On’ and select ‘Show Shadow Only’ from ‘Effect’. Then if you use an Environment with a suitable HDR or background image you will see the shadows appear to be on the HDR or background image. I’m not familiar with Blender but in Rhino you can add some Post Effects (including Bloom, Glow, Fog) from the Cycles frame buffer.

      @@SimplyRhino3D Yep. The Alpha “shadowcatcher” is OK for the Groundplane and I use that BUT what I would like to do is to assign the “wrapper”-material to an object which is not flat/2D. It could be a Mesh or NURBS landscape and/or a wall or any other 3D geometry which I create a simplified box-version of - only to capture the shadows.

    cheers Phil. Content/channel is great thanks. Recently re-discovering Rhino after years away from it. Was drawn by the sub-d so would love to see you do an industrial design from sketch kind of project [have already done the vintage trike build from Rhino3d;)..something like a car bonnet [or full vehicle like there are alias videos using sub d], coffee machine or other houshold product perhaps?..

    Could you explain a little further what you mean by "dense render mesh" for the displacement to work correctly? thanks!

    • @SimplyRhino3D
      @SimplyRhino3D  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Joanna. Thanks for your question. By a ‘Dense’ render mesh - I mean a mesh with a high polygon count. You can set this in Rhino Options > Mesh (or on a Mac, Settings > Mesh) and is best achieved by setting a ‘Custom’ mesh.

    how do i render this in turntable animation in higher DPI, hi res, "best quality" with these textures, like when i do a still image render with rhino7 render engine?

    • @SimplyRhino3D
      @SimplyRhino3D  2 роки тому

      Hi Mikele,
      If I’m understanding correctly then you want to create an animation using the Raytraced (Cycles) engine in v7 with specific settings on image size, quality etc. Make sure the current renderer is set to ‘Rhino Render’ then go to the ‘Rendering’ panel then set up your image size, quality/number of passes etc just as you would for a still image. Next, set up your animation and choose ‘Render Full’ for the ‘Capture Method’. When you create your animation you will see the first frame appear in the Frame Buffer from where you can add the Denoiser. Rhino will now render the first frame followed by all the subsequent frames at the settings you input in the ‘Rendering’ panel. Hope this helps.

    The emissive object look a bit 2D, there should be some sort of halo all around the perimeter of the emissive object itself, with some sort of light dispersion
    But it is a step in the good direction nevertheless.

      that would happen if he showed the post effects.

    • @SimplyRhino3D
      @SimplyRhino3D  3 роки тому

      Hi IYN. You can add these in post in Cycles. Click on the + symbol in the Cycles Frame Buffer and look for (eg) ‘Bloom’. In V-Ray for Rhino you have to do a similar thing.

    I have Rhino 6, and from one day to another my renderings started to get noisy. its frustrating as i don't now how to get rid of it. every time i start to render the denoiser switches himself of. i also cannot find the package manager as the program is strucutred differently. anyone a suggestion?

    • @SimplyRhino3D
      @SimplyRhino3D  2 роки тому

      Hi there, Raytrace rendering can be inherently noisy. The ‘old’ way of reducing noise is to create more passes as each pass will gradually reduce noise. The denoiser can (by using a sort of smart blurring) reduce the need for passes - so, for example, you might see a better result with 750 passes plus the denoiser as against 1500 passes without. A good lighting solution will also reduce noise. As far as I know the ability to use a denoiser with Rhino’s raytrace render (Cycles) applies to Rhino v7 only and not Rhino v6. Package Manager is a new feature in Rhino v7 and again does not ship with Rhino v6.

    Honestly, I don't understand why McNeely is continuing to develop their home render that is million miles away from the competition. They'd rather improve viewport quality and compatibility with third party software

      for my use of rendering as a beginner, I can render cool stuff following these tips easily. And I never intend to go deeper with rendering so I'm happy with the way it is now.
      But I get that for advanced users it might seem like lost time.

    • @DanielHilldrup
      @DanielHilldrup 3 роки тому

      McNeel understand that there are lots of Rhino users who don't need vray or any other offline renderer but just need a basic engine capable of helping them visualise and communicate design development.
