    EXCELLENT WORK! EVERY DAY I AM SUFFERING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEMS THAT FILLETEDGE AND CHAMFEREDGE CAUSE IN MY MODEL! IT'S VERY COMPLICATED TO FIND A SOLUTION, BECAUSE I'M STILL LEARNING! THEY ARE SMALL POINTS THAT APPEAR VERY COMPLICATED TO RESOLVE OR UNDERSTAND WHY THEY HAPPEN! I KNOW IT'S THE DISTANCE OR THICKNESS OF THE WALLS ETC... BUT I'LL LEARN! I THINK I'M ON THE RIGHT WAY , THANKS TO YOUR VIDEOS! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME AND TEACHING!

    I've been facing these filleting issues since I worked in Alias. In this particular, Rhino is not different. For a second I believed McNeel finally had found out how to solve them from the fillet tool. But in the end we have to turn ourselves into digital tailors and start cutting and patching. Anyway, I've learned your cutting and stitching technique is efficient and yields better results. Keep up the great work.

      I agree with you. Until the engineer figure out a better solution. We need to do cut and patch work.

    I usually export 3d model into SOLIDWORKS and make filletings there and then import it back to rhino. It is much faster than trying to cut and putch surfaces in rhino.

    PJ great tutorial. Wonder if you have a work around for a Boolean subtraction of lettering with draft? Subtraction with straight lettering works but for resin printing and casting drafted letters are preferred. Drafted text causes Rhino to fail the Boolean. And on the filleting issue, is it necessary to fillet each line segment to have filleted lettering after the subtraction? Thanks for all your videos.

    • @PJChenJewelryDesign
      @PJChenJewelryDesign  2 роки тому

      In general, if the text or object is small, you don't need to fillet the edge because polish will do the work after casting. however, if it is for the look or rendering, you may want to fillet all the edges possible.

    • @frankfritzges7819
      @frankfritzges7819 2 роки тому

      @@PJChenJewelryDesign The filleting and drafting is for the bottom of the lettering for casting investment strength. Small lettering, undrafted and without bottom filleting, causes the investment to break out and cause casting defects even using special resin investment w/ boric acid added to strengthen. I've figured out how to add filleting to the bottom but can't do a boolean subtraction with drafted lettering......3-5 degrees.

      @@frankfritzges7819 I'm trying to solve this issue too... depending how you are making the draft perhaps you could try shrinktrimmedsrf before the boolean?

      @@spiroandritsis4584 I believe I've found a way to make it work. Will post here in the next day about the workflow I've come up with.

    Hello, I can't get the fillet at the base of the cylinder facing outwards, can you tell me how to proceed? I start by making sure that the base of the cylinder is perfectly tangent to the base of the cube it rests on. Your tutorials are really very instructive, I certainly subscribe.
    Thank you

      Did you boolean Union the parts? was the fillet radius too big? did you use fillet or fillet edges commands?

    • @berardinolamura7508
      @berardinolamura7508 2 роки тому

      immediately after sending you the question I remembered that it was necessary for me to do a BOOLEAN UNION, after all fine. Thanks anyway for the good directions and the instant response. Well done

    this is a very simple case and you can fix it with some work , but in complex shapes , it will take very long time to do so , filliting in rhino is just very very bad , Solidworks and plasticity are much better option for filliting because they use the parasolid kernal

    hello PJ, this is Cheick. I'd like to know how do we evaluate a picture of a diamond ring in matrixgold to be able give an estimate of how many grams of material is used, how many diamonds ( carat weight, clarity, color ) is in it?

    • @PJChenJewelryDesign
      @PJChenJewelryDesign  2 роки тому +1

      If you have model, I believe Matrixgold can give you all the information about the weight and stone number/size. but if you only have 2D image or photo. I do not think any of the software can do the evaluation on it.
