**** UPDATE - 15.11.2022 - It seems that the developers of ShapeMap just release the open version on Food4Rhino, so you don't have to use the complex process of installation and verification through WeChat. You can download and install the plugin from here: www.food4rhino.com/en/app/shapemap
Really a pain to have to first install wechat. But gave it a try nonetheless. After two hours trying to even get an English version going could not make an account. Got stuck on final step of signup again and again and no clue given as to why can't finish signup. Giving up.. quite frustrating love to try out shape tool ..
So Shape map needs two flat lines on a plane to define the relationship of the 2d projected pattern to the 3d projected pattern. Similair to how orient sometimes works in rhino. So all you need to do is : add a line component in grasshopper - right click the line component - choose "set one line" - It will open rhino- In rhino click near the brep once and draw a line more or less the same size as brep and click. Then do the same thing over again with another line component and hook them to the shape mapper and boom. Note OP says after this point, line size isnt important as the area stays the same. @ 2:27
There wasn't the download link, just download instructions. You need the WeChat app to download and register your license. One account can register two devices.
I also had the same problem a couple of times. Try to move and copy the inital geometry and reference again into ShapeMap. I know it sounds weird but I did the same process multiple times and it solved the problem. Hope it helps!

First, you need to make sure you have a Wechat to install the plugin. After that, within the app you can send request for the download link.
there is no way to crack this chinese language shit on the wechat app. I just want the install button. that's very frustrating
