    I was once a Catholic like this guy. It was a brief period as I was deconstructing my faith out of extreme right wing Catholicism, but the more important transition was away from authoritarianism. I eventually stopped thinking that the desires of the Pope and other leaders mattered more than actually thinking through a problem, and without recognized authority the church leaders are just a bunch of guys in robes.
    Maybe one day this guy will also be thinking for himself instead of hanging on the word of another. It only takes one pope manipulative enough to sway their minds in a worse way.

      Yes the stance on birth control has been harmful especially for African countries. The stance on abortion has been quite harmful for desperate young ladies who cannot care for a future child. The stance on male-only control of the church, on celibacy, on infallibility of the pope; a secular humanism worldview leads to better outcomes all around.

    • @marcusreading3783
      @marcusreading3783 Рік тому +17

      @@Nocturnalux Its harmful to basically everyone, but I'd actually argue that its most harmful to the kids who would otherwise be aborted. There are any number of reasons for why a person might seek an abortion, but regardless of the reason, its because they dont want the child. That might be for selfish reasons, basically using the procedure as a form of birth control (which is EXTREMELY shitty), or it might be because the Mother is mentally or financially unable to care for the child or hell, it might be because the child was a result of rape. Regardless of the reason, if someone wants to abort but cant, that child WILL suffer. Whether its from a resentful parent or due to the family simply not having the financial stability to allow for a happy childhood, it doesnt matter, at the end of the day, it would be better to end the pregnancy so that no one suffers.
      And, of course, these people are almost always also against any form of governmental assistances, leaving the children they 'saved' in horrible situations and sitting back in their comfortably armchairs, sipping expensive wine and feeling oh so satisfied with themselves for having saved some unborn childs life and ignoring them starving and shivering in the gutter.
      And that also completely ignores the other reason why the procedure might be needed to SAVE the life of the mother. Because the childs life matters more than the Mothers, right up until they are born and then these dipshits could not give one single solitary toss about them.

    Most American Catholics *do* vote for gay marriage and for abortion access. While they're mostly voting for left wing economics (as much as we have it in the US) , polling shows over 50% support from Catholics on the abortion and gay rights issues themselves.. I'm not going to defend their reasons for their religiosity, but I look at catholics as allies in the fight against evangelicals. If you've seen any of the MOUNTAIN of anti-catholic propaganda from them on tiktok, they know "they're next".

    There are three kinds of religions: inclusive, exclusive and aloof. Inclusive religions are usually not monotheistic, and will happily add another god to their pantheons (that explains the madness of Ancient Egyptian and current Hindu pantheons: the amalgamated other gods as they annexed territories). People are free to pay lip service and mostly left alone if they do not make waves (Narendra Mohdi's intolerance is rather odd in that context). Exclusive religions are usually monotheistic. Their god is a kind of tribal chief demanding mad about protocol and etiquette, and demanding absolute loyalty as if being in a constant state of war. Muslims, Christians. They view the world in imperialistic terms and want to conquer it (proselytism). Their god loves all humans, but they tend to define humans deserving of love as people who belong to their religion. Then, the aloof monotheists who want to mind their own business, to be left alone: Yazidi/Mazdaans/To some extent, Jews (nowadays). They are exclusive but not imperialistic. They want peace.
    The only religion that makes sense is in fact animism. The notion that everything on earth has some sort of soul, aura, power is not incompatible with science XD
