Rebuilding my game after 2 years

- After 2 years developing a game I had bunch of game systems that weren't fully connected. When I went to connect them... it turned into having to rework the entire project.

6:57 can't wait for someone to crank 90s with these roofs
literally had to google what you were talking about... I'm getting old man...
@@Robyamdam Hyperspecific jargon will do that.
Love it! It's actually so inspiring to see how passionate you are about the game!
I'm a unity indie dev too. I get a lot of UA-cam algorithm suggested devlogs. I skip 99% of them. But occasionally I find a vid title that resonates with my experiences. Ive restarted several projects due to improvements in my ability to code better and project structural spaghetti. I'm glad you've found ppl to help test your game even if it is not ready by your standards. I have the same problem. I like your efforts to avoid burn out by working on little things. And, yes, your graphic style looks good to me too
restart your projects? how many times do you do it? hopefully not too often
@@Ibadullah 3 times for my space project only bc bolt (visual scripting) was free and I wanted to see if I could reproduce the same game with simple mechanics(no go on that). Twice on my dream game bc my new assets were not compatible with older versions of unity and upgrading can cause more harm then good.
😊@@lee1davis1
@@lee1davis1 True, asset requirements sometimes gives me PTSD and juggling what to include or not.
Hope Unity 6 and above are optimized and not too bloated just for the sake of new features to bait investors.
burnout is the biggest enemy of all, proud of you dealing with it as well as you do
good luck on the rest of your journey!
I saw the thumbnail and immediately fell in love with the game and wishlisted it, the aesthetics remind me of games from the 2013-2014 gaming era like Unturned, Cube World, Trove, etc
It looks so cozy! The higher pitch roofs definitely seem more witchy and makes Mana Valley stand apart. I'm excited to see what you come up with next!
I’ll be honest I thought you’ll cancel this project a million times over by now but I’m pleasantly surprised every single time
Bugs that only show up in the build are what jolt me awake at 4am in a cold sweat
"You can only sleep when it is dark." (gasps in offended napper)
New AIA video!
I can always count on you dude
It's really funny how playtesting can feel like a catch 22: You want people to playtest your game to find all the bugs, but you don't want to release a game to playtesters that has bugs because it feels unprofessional
Game needs steam achievements
100% there are a handful planned and the system is in place.
@@AIAdev awesome
Haha the least important thing 😂
@@deryorsh I think it would be fun to collect achievements in a chill game like that
Not really
Looks great so far, keep following your gut with those little details. I appreciate them so much, truly makes a game for me. My top three important aspects of a game are; player direction (allowing them to explore and giving them choices), level detail (example Mass Effect 1’s levels are incredible), mechanics with depth and variety.
I am so hyped for this. It's actually close enough to a project I had started a while ago, but tbh I halted work on because you have almost all the features I wanted, and yours is both further along and so good. I know these kind of comments can add pressure, but be sure you are on the right path, and we will love it more than you hate fixing that one thing for the 100th time now that it does look/feel/work right after adding something else. :D enjoy the process and know we are waiting patiently. Release when you are happy with it. Though I have to ask if you have thought about early access. You can get some great feedback that way, and even just what you have would be very fun to play with even if there are some bugs and there is no storyline yet. What ever you do, we support you.
TL;RD: looks great. early access? Good vibes. ^__^
I second this, a story isn't a must for EA, as long as there are interesting things to do and work towards present in the game. We Happy Few did something similar. Where what we played in EA was a survival mode with a bunch of unrelated side quests scattered about, that touched on aspects of the lore in the game. But when it finally released, it had a full story that incorporated three playable characters. Two more than what it had in EA. Was an interesting surprise loading it up after full release.
Looks great! Keep up the good work!
This may be a suggestion for later in the dev series, but adding deferent brooms with different speeds, or allowing the player to customize brooms with bought items would make for an enjoyable experience.
it looks amazing keep up the great work
Wait until you find out what day 941 has in store
😩
Great work AIA. Love this game so much! Keep it up!
I completely agree with this, and I'm planning to start game dev myself soon, so thanks for the inspiration :D
I’m actually so excited for this game. It’s the kind of game I’ve been wanting forever. You have no idea how often I check your channel just to see if there’s an update, and I gasped when I saw this video pop up.
I’m currently learning to code, and I’m nowhere near your level, but watching you overcome the struggles that come with coding and always finding solutions-especially when dealing with burnout, because that is so real with coding-really inspires me to continue on my journey.
Everything looks great, and I’m so excited to see the future of this project!
this is sick man, rooting for you.
The little things you add to Mana valley makes it feel more and more special and im all for it!
Amazing progress! I love the roofs. They look very witchy.
This looks beautiful, I can't wait to buy it!
still love how the game looks and will patiently wait until it is all done.
as someone who remade my own game, this is truly a remake of all time
It's awesome to see all the new building content!
Im so excited for this game to relese i cant wait, keep up the good work!
Really looking forward to this! I was never into the "witch" aesthetic but I've been finding myself drawn to the "comfy" vibe that it can have, which your game definitely does. Oh, and that broom riding looks dope as heck!
Im happy i discovered you.
i favorited it on Steam so that when it comes out, I can know. It looks fun.
glad you havent burned out and are still able to work on your dream, looking forward to more!
yay I was waiting so long for the next video :D
Nice! I love how it's all coming together, I just wanted to say, is there a chance to have build quests? Maybe an npc asks you to build him a house or a garden. Or maybe just in the first house as a tutorial to building?
it looks so so cozy! I hope there's different kinds of magic, like high magic and witchraft. I cant wait to play
The game uses elemental magic (fire, wind, water, earth). Units have elemental alignments and take different damage based on the elemental damage dealt.
Welcome back! ❤
Oh wow. I love seeing all the updates tbh ❤
Amazing video AIA, as always
i haven't been following this project too closely, so sorry about that, but i just wanted to say that it's _insane_ (in an impressive way) that you're putting an entire building mechanic into this game?? my perception of the project so far has just been 'cute witch game with fun movement', somewhere in a similar genera to A Hat In Time: so an entire building mechanic seemed like the last thing that would help the game; but the more i think about the mechanic, it just seems really cool and fun? like, i'm already thinking about the buildings i could make and the environments i would try to craft in a cute witch-themed game; all that self-expression might actually help further invest me into the world of the game, and that is really cool. i'm going to binge all your videos about this game now, excited to see what your thought process with the mechanic was! ^-^
So many amazing updates! You got this!
Looks great man, hopefully this gets a full release
Hey man, such a great game and video. Lets all hope we never end up in the gamedev graveyard, but I am believing in all of us :)
Keep at it man, you can do this!
Great devlog! The build system looks awesome!
It's been really fun testing the game :D Reminds me that I need to try out the latest version ;)
i personally hate the "allways opens in the direction the player is traveling" doors, cause it's directly antithetical to how doors work in the real world. basically uncanny valley but for doors. other than that, i'm really excited for this game.
Hey man, been keeping an eye on your project for a while, looks great.
Your voice volume is all over the place for this video. At the start of every sentence, and sometimes mid sentence, there is a drop in volume. Maybe from compressor/limiter settings, or crossfades from stitching audio together.
Keep up the good work.
5:30, can't unsee the planes
I am dreading adding a dialogue system to my game. i just added a quest board when i first started, so the player has something to do.
I am making my game in visual studio with c++ using Raylib modules. Everything in my game is coded in with no visual que to show me were or how it is placed.
I just found your videos and i am quite impressed. Your game looks amazing.
Game looks super polished 🔥🔥lookin forward to playing!
As a scratch dev,i can agree that making GUIS are pretty good for stuff
Thank you for the UPDATE 😁
me: start the video for 9 seconds and than pause, *added to Wishlist*
Daymn, looks amazing!!
was waiting for this yeppi!
The artstyle in this game is very beautiful I'm wondering if there is gonna be a season changing mechanic as the world would look really beautiful during the winter with snow on the ground, roofs and trees
Feel you on being unable to replicate bugs within the Unity Editor that appear in builds. Absolutely infuriating and feel your pain. Great video - always love the insight!
This project is VERY ambitious!
If it starts to get to you, hang in there. It looks amazing and it's not easy.
When AIA started this project i was like, no way in hell is he gonna finish this. Now im realizing he might actually do it. Which is HUUUUGGGeeeeee
Keep it up. Watching this motivates me to keep on working on my game!
FINALLY A NEW VIDEO ❤❤
good job man it looks promising
Reworking a project is common, especially with Unity developers. I'm developing a game myself -- a cross between a life simulation and Tomodachi Life. It's hard sometimes to stay on track and keep developing, especially when bugs go awry. Just keep at it and you'll do fantastic! I'm currently going through a burnout phase but once I'm back, I'll be better than ever.
Yoo welcome back dude
I can't wait to watch this love the vids keep uploading man
The building systems looks absolutely awesome
looks really fun cant wait
Game looks amazing. Keep up the good work, looks a little like the games i'm making in unreal.
This is like a switch game
I'm really loving this game so far
I've been seing your videos from the early beggining of your proyect, everytime i saw it pop up in my page (sorry for not following earlier, my bad xd) an i'm such a fan of your pasion and your work! I cannot wait to see were this is going! Also, I'm a multyfaceted artist myself, if you would want some help with any art related stuff, feel free to reach out!
literally today i was thinking "man, i wonder how mana valley is coming along..."
Proud of you for handling burnout in healthy ways! The game is coming along wonderfully! Every video I get more and more excited!!!
the legend is back
Great work!
Bro dedication is more than I would have on a relationship
Can't wait for Mana Valley on the Quest!!!
oh you meant in-game quests
What’s the quest? Isn’t that a car?
Feels like every developer i watch is redoing their games
Remember: it’s the little things that make a great game.
AIA UPDATE YESSSSSSSSS
Game: "You can only sleep when it's dark out". Me at 6am after playing the game all night: "bet"
If you stay up too many nights in a row you get grounded
Game needs me
This game looks crazy good!!!🔥🔥
I'm going to get popcorn and lets watch! 🎉
Nice progress!!
Thanks doood
all my homies love AIA
this game looks awesome i hope this have lot of adventure and base building like minecraft and if posible i would like to see coop with friends.
the freeedom and progression that minecraft offers seems similar so this game so am really excited for it :D.
I've been working on my own little witch game, more based on animal crossing and waltz of the wizard, but a few of the features match your game which i find funny cuz i haven't been watching many of your videos recently XD great minds think alike
Fan of the chibi style and baked textures, planned to do them one day.
are the chibi models made from scratch or was a base already like from Vroid?
I want to play....
please can't wait anymore😭😭
Fireflies are really needed in terms of burnout! :)
aia cooked fr
Finally a new video
You spent so much time on this....
I hope this comes to Xbox and switch! I’m obsessed and been watching for so long!
big progress, implementing building is hard
Are you planning on multiplayer? It would be really, really awesome to have. But I know it's not an easy thing to just implement. If you had it' I would buy the game without asking any more questions though lol. If there won't be multiplayer, how likely is it that people can mod the game to include it? (I know mod support is another huge thing...This project is already huge.)
Heyyyy I finally missed a video of you 🎉
Since when you mine a tree it leaves a trunk ,how about the tree slowly re grows if the trunk is still there
I've built a successful business, and starting a project with a scope too large for one person to feasibly complete is part of the process. From that you learn how to build many large scale systems, and most importantly, managing scope creep. At 8:40 your perfectionism is a mix of pride and ego, I am confident the people who notice those small details are not your target audience. And you just showed a successful game who shipping a complete product, not small details. My advice, use store assets customised to be unique, which will have a higher quality than your build system could ever have. Focus on the core game loop and expand those side details and systems later. Also, use as many premade components as possible to save time and if you're worrying about efficiency or a feature, just copy the component from the original repo and modify it.
once you realize mf is reading from a script, you cant un-hear it
