    Nice job Frank 👍
    This is my bedroom projector, 8 years and still going strong ( 2 bulbs changes in that time ) had no problems at all. But if my colour wheel needs changing I've got it with your help once again.
    If any of your subscribers are looking for a good cheap secondhand projector you really can't go wrong with this 141x, great crisp image 👌
    Top man top channel 👍

    Hi Frank, just wanted to thank you. I live quite remote, and having to wait weeks on two bulb replacements thinking that that was the issue, was pretty frustrating. Who would know, a piece of electircal tape saved it from the bin. Great Job and thanks again.

    Hello Frank, I have some problems with my Optoma uhd51alv, I guess you are based in Usa? So it doesn’t really make sense to ask u if I can sent you from Germany …
    But maybe u can help me abit , it was super dirty cleaned it completely and now, the blue lamp is turning on if I switch it on and that’s it nothing starts no fan no light nothing, if I open the chassis of the lamp and don’t press the (closed contact) it’s turning red and lamp light is flashing …, if understood one of your videos right this might be the the color wheel sensor (it was very dirty too like burned in dust). Greetings from Germany

    Hi Frank, just found your videos and had a question. I’ve had my HD141x for 7 years and the Original bulb just exploded. I bought 2 different bulb replacements and they never turn on. I am getting voltage reading from the lamp connector of 84VDC and 94VAC…not sure if the output is AC or DC for these lamps? Or if that is even correct. I read that it could be a ballast issue. Just looking for more insight before I buy a $100 power board.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  Рік тому

      Unfortunately you can't really measure the ballast output correctly or safely. They can output 3-8kv during startup when it strikes the arc. Then it balances the voltage and amperage to keep the arc going. It's also running at 20khz instead of normal AC or DC. You can damage your meter really easily if you catch an ignition pulse.
      The best way to test your ballast is to check the power to the ballast. The pfc input to the ballast should be 380vdc. If it's 160-300 that means your main power supply has a problem or the main board is not calling the pfc to enable. If you have the 380 then you need to check the control lines. Usually pins 4-5 are the lamp on and lamp power level pins. You should see them start at 4.8 ish and then drop to 2.5ish when the projector tells the ballast to turn on. If you see both of those, and no lamp ignition, then you probably have a bad ballast. See what you find there and let me know.

    Hello Frank!!!
    The color wheel of my 7 year old optoma HD141X shattered a few weeks ago.
    I ordered a new one and after it arrived I began to assemble everything but the plastic support of the color wheel was missing because it was placed in the trash by accident.
    Is there a place where I can buy a replacement or maybe a place where I can find the 3d drawing of the part so I can 3d print it.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  4 місяці тому +1

      3d printing is going to be tough. I dont know of any filament that will hold up to the heat. I would email my friends at Time Electronics in China. They work with e-recyclers and may be able to find you one. Their email is gydz@timeprojectorlamp.com I think they would be your best bet.

    How do I know if a noisy projector is a fan problem or a color wheel problem?? The image is fine but the noise gives me a terrible headache. (I have an optoma hd 141x) Thank you for the helpful videos!

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  6 місяців тому

      The nice thing is that the color wheel only spins up when the lamp is working. The fans will run after the lamp turns off. Turn on the projector. Once you hear the noise, turn it off. Once the lamp goes out, the noise will stop if its the color wheel. If the noise continues until the fans stop, its a fan. If you still have the original wheel, its probably the issue. You could also post a short video on your channel and let me know. I can tell by the sound most of the time.

    • @marceline8488

      Thank you@@FixitFrank!!
      Here is a video of the noise: ua-cam.com/video/ctGRJI1OSIM/v-deo.htmlsi=UCOs_oMxvtH9sbDr My phone mic doesn't do it justice but it's a constant buzzing.
      I verified the black tape is still intact and at the right location, it seems to spin well enough, the color wheel sensor and housing was dirty but I cleaned that as well as the color wheel itself. The grey pad showed no signs of damage or adhesive failure.
      What do you think I need? I am also due for a new bulb if you could recommend a place to buy one!

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  5 місяців тому

      I must admit, I don't hear anything obvious in the video. If the buzz happens after you tell the projector to turn off(while cooling down) then it is a fan. If it only buzzes when the projector is on, then its a color wheel. As far as new lamp, I would suggest anyone on this list. www.projectorcentral.com/projector-lamp.htm I prefer purelandsupply but I am biased. They are more expensive than some but their quality and service are great. Just stay far away from amazon. For power banks and stuff, amazon is fine but for lamps, they are just too much of a gamble.

    Hi Frank - just wanted to say your HD142X disassembly video was great, am working on sorting mine out at the moment. It makes a very loud buzzing noise which I initially thought was the fan but after taking apart and cleaning, it seems like it’s coming from the colour wheel. Is it likely that a colour wheel replacement would fix this, or is there something else I should try first?
    Am wary about swapping the colour wheel especially without a video for this specific model.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  Рік тому

      Im in the states unfortunately. However I can tell you that most color wheels on ebay will work fine. There is no original color wheel anymore. In fact even the originals were just inexpensive color wheels. If it says it will fit, then you are in good shape. If you want, email the folks I use in China. they can help. Gydz@timeprojectorlamp.com you dont want to try and reattach that segment, the balance will be our and most likely the other segments are not far behind. Color wheels are pretty common parts to replace. Once you change it, your projector should be good as new.

      You can use black kapton tape. The trick is to use something that can stand up to the heat and is a matte or not too shiny black. Stove paint is a good option, or matt engine paint. I'll find out what this tape specifically it though. This was actually given to me by another tech so I dont know where to buy it. The piece I have will likely last years.

    Hi, While replacing my color wheel i seem to have broken the clip for the ribbon cable any idea how i would go about finding a replacement part or fixing it myself. I have no idea where the bit of plastic has gone so would either need a repair with a new one i could buy or alternate items. Any help would be great thank you.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  Рік тому

      Ohhh. That is going to be difficult. That is all one unit so you can't buy just the clip. The only way to repair it is to replace the entire connector. you might want to try creating something to hold the wire in place. Maybe some kapton tape and a piece of plastic to push on the wire so it makes good connection or something like that. I'd really search for that piece. Even if its broken, you can put it in place and tape it down so it'll work. But replacing just that part isn't really an option.

    Hi Frank.
    I'm wondering if you could help me I have an optome 143X and the picture went out, the bulb was still on and after watching your videos I took it apart and found a little burn on the color Wheel chip and ordered and replaced both the color wheel and the chip that sits on top of it. When I replaced it it started working and I was happy. but then it ran for about half an hour before the same thing happened. The lamp was on but there was no picture. Just a mix of black and grey.
    1. Any tips on what is happening?
    2. Do you accept any repair orders?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  5 місяців тому

      I'm on the other side of the USA (south east PA). I'm sorry that I don't know anyone else who works on projectors in the USA. It seems to be a very niche repair industry.
      That said, have you replaced the lamp? If you saw burning on the color wheel and CW sensor, its possible the lamp has an issue. If the lamp was replaced with a non-original (or one without the proper red/blue lens filter) it can cause the Infrared radiation to cook the color wheel and drastically shorten the lamp life. Cheap lamps end up being very expensive. If the projector is still trying to come on, and you hear fans and see the color wheel spinning up, then I would try a lamp that has the proper UV/IR cut lens. www.projectorcentral.com/projector-lamp.htm Anyone on here is safe to purchase from.

      @@FixitFrank thanks Frank for your reply. It's the original lamp. I'm sure it has been used a bit... if it is the original lamp, wouldn't it just go out? Or could it have another problem that would cause to picture to stop projecting even tho light is being emitted? Sorry to bother. Not sure I want to invest $100 in a lamp when there is a deeper issue, so trying to eliminate possibilities in my head 🤯😵

    • @SmilinMikeable
      @SmilinMikeable 5 місяців тому

      @@FixitFrank btw the original color wheel spun fine. There was just a little black sooty material on the surface of the sensor chip. I replaced both just to be sure and it seems that color wheel seems to fail anyway. And as I said, it worked fine for a half hour and failed again.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  5 місяців тому

      I'd still try another lamp. If the old lamp is weak, it can cause issues. 90% of problems end up being lamp related. I understand the hesitance to replace the lamp. I would suggest buying one from a place that takes returns. then you can at least get your money back in the event that its something electronic related on the mainboard(only other possibility)

    Hey Frank, I followed this and discovered the tape was essentially gone on the color wheel. I put some isotope tape down and finally got my rich red colors back instead of the blotchy orange hue. Unfortunately after an hour the color reverted back to the orange blotchiness for the red. Do you have any suggestions?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  10 місяців тому

      I would replace the color wheel entirely. If the sticker came off, it may mean the wheel got too hot and the oil bronze bushing is no longer working and the wheel is dragging. It may also be that the tape melted off. That area gets very hot. you need to use something that will handle 150-300c to be safe. I have used stove paint, high temp black tape with good results.
