You’re 100% right in bringing these forward Danica. I’ve been T1 for better than half a century and will all the amazing tools we have to work with I should be ashamed at how many of these exact topics I could be doing better with. Thanks for the reminder, I’m going to go change me infusion set right now! 🖖

Regarding lows: I'd add that with a CGM, it becomes possible to more accurately estimate how many carbs to use for a low treatment. For example, 66 mg/dL, slowly falling, and suppose that 10mg/dL raise your BG by 60 mg/dL. Then it would make sense to eat maybe ~8g of glucose and wait about 15 minutes to observe how it continues (the body needs ~10 minutes to absorb that glucose). If it starts to raise rapidly, don't do anything else, wait until it stops rising. If the BG was falling slowly, it may end up somewhere at around 100-120 mg/dL after this treatment. And, you just avoided a rollercoaster.
Of course, if the BG is for example 65 mg/dL and falling rapidly, treat it with more glucose. But that "rule of 15" is usually overkill - 15g of carbs will get your BG way too high. And, as I mentioned before, this implies that you have a CGM. If you don't, such "microdosing" is considerably riskier, because you don't see how fast the BG is falling.

    My biggest problem is stress.
I'm trying to get my sugars under better control, but my last A1C was 6.4 . I would like to see it at 6 .
    I have been a type 1 for 49 yrs.

Hi Lisa, great work on getting to 6.4. Not stressing might be key to helping you get to your A1C to 6.0. Have a chat with your clinical team though so that you do not sacrifice your in range percentage in order to achieve hitting 6.0. Have a great remainder of the year

Each idea you listed involved with diabetic would definitely help me to, even if just a little, lower my blood sugars and keep me in range. Thanks for the common sense approach Your enthusiasm is appreciated.

Loved the idea to set up high and low alerts. I have the 670g and am always in automode and will periodically glance at my BG level, but if I become busy and I don’t look until it is already below 60 or above 180. So I set up alerts and have already noticed how much it helps me keep an eye on rises post eating or dips when I’m busy at work. Thanks!

I agree with everything you said, and I’ve been doing most of them myself. The biggest ones for me were a tighter range on my cgm and treating highs sooner. That made a big improvement on my A1C.

Hi Danica, hope all is well with you. Good notes, especially about only loading enough insulin in the cartridge only for 2 to 3 days. I am trying to get my clinical diabetes team to switch me on to Tandem tslim x2 and G6 (I am in UK) but having difficulty convincing them atm so might have to change my clinical diabetes team. Keep up the good work and best wishes for a great week

That's really great advice! Unfortunately, I don't have a CGM or a pump so everything is guesswork with my basic glucose meter which has no tracking on it but I really like the advice about waiting the full 15 minutes and not freaking out just cuz you're a little bit low but I always have to go with how I'm feeling since I don't have any arrows to tell me whether I'm trending up or down. I would love to see a video on some healthy tips that you have to help with blood sugars coming down maybe you've done that one already like how much exercise or foods that are really good for that. Big hugs!

Hi, I really like your videos! They're very informative! This question is not concerning lowering A1C. It's concerning where to wear my pump while sleeping to avoid the error message "out of range'. I'm on the Tandem T-slim with ICQ & DexCom G6. I wear my CGM on my under arm ( closer to my armpit) and my pump site is on my abdomen. My Dr tells me I don't have much 'real estate' to have both on my abdomen due to scare tissue/incision. I typically wear my pump clipped to the center of my bra or bralette. I recently have been getting numerous error messages. I've tried clipping it to my bra straps or the band on the side but it's not comfortable and often falls off, which causes problems sleeping. Do you have any suggestions where to wear it to avoid the errors. I've been type 1 for 3.5 years (LADA). Thank you!

I've recently been approved for a pump - been MDI for about 4 yrs. My last A1C in December was 7.0. After a perfect day yesterday I blew it...shouldn't have had dessert tonight - I'm at 240 now and going straight up :(

I have had diabetes for 46 years and I am having difficulty losing weight and getting my A1C down. I also have gastroparthesis and gluten intolerance. I am trying not to eat between meals and drink more water. It has been 3 days and so far so good. I am walking 5km a day so that is helping too.

Maybe your basal is too high. 15 minute prebolous shouldn’t cause you to go low unless you’re using a super fast acting insulin like fiasp. Otherwise you were probably already heading low before taking the prebolus

🤣 I hope you’re not a diabetic! You should know all diabetics are different, and GRAINS and CARBOHYDRATES are good for you! And also a part of a healthy diet. I’m 17 and this is what my nutritionist said too! I would eat grain with gluten in it but I’m also a celiac so I substitute with oats, flax seed and other things.

Yes maybe It works for you and if so great! I eat little complex carbs because of me being a celiac, and a pickey eater. I actually have a small elevation of my cholesterol because of me being on gluten free diet for almost a year now. So I have added a lot more omegas to my diet . It’s just a matter of opinion and each individual person. I respect your opinion though.
