CLIP DESCRIPTION:
The Von Trapp children say goodnight at a party by singing "So Long, Farewell."
FILM DESCRIPTION:
One of the most popular movie musicals of all time, The Sound of Music is based on the true story of the Trapp Family Singers. Julie Andrews stars as Maria, a young nun in an Austrian convent who regularly misses her morning prayers because she enjoys going to the hills to sing the title song. Deciding that Maria needs to learn something about the real world before she can take her vows, the Mother Superior (Peggy Wood) sends her off to be governess for the children of the widowed Captain Von Trapp (Christopher Plummer). Arriving at the Trapp home, Maria discovers that her new boss is cold and aloof, and his seven children virtual automatons-at least, whenever the Captain is around. Otherwise, the kids are holy terrors, as evidenced by the fact that Maria is the latest in a long line of governesses. But Maria soon ingratiates herself with the children, especially oldest daughter Liesl (Charmian Carr), who is in love with teenaged messenger boy Rolf. As Maria herself begins to fall in love with the Captain, she rushes back to the Abbey so as not to complicate his impending marriage to a glamorous baroness (Eleanor Parker). But the children insist that Maria return, the Baroness steps out of the picture, and Maria and the Captain confirm their love in the song "Something Good." Unhappily, they return home from their honeymoon shortly after the Nazis march into Austria. Already, swastikas have been hung on the Von Trapp ancestral home, and Liesl's boyfriend Rolf has been indoctrinated in the "glories" of the Third Reich. The biggest blow occurs when Von Trapp is called back to active duty in the service of the Fuhrer. The Captain wants nothing to do with Nazism, and he begins making plans to take himself and his family out of Austria.

2024 ANYONE?
Rishis leaving song

YES
Meee❤❤
Am here 😊
I see why this is my mother's favorite film.
Panda probably cause you wanna kill whitey.
Is one of my favourite movies too
Omg I love it 🥰
Mine too
Because the kids get on their own to sleep? Lol just kidding it is one of my favourite films too
Aw, they cut out when all the guests sang back the last "Good bye". Always gave me chills.
That was one of the best parts of the movie
Rightttt!!!! I thought I was the only one
yeah all the clips of the movie they cut off the end parts :( like in 16 going on 17 they cut off her squeal at the end when she gets kissed which i've always loved
I found that part so funny
Same!
0:50 has always been my favorite part. I like his quirky smile while he effortlessly belts out a note that sounds like the majestic melodies of a rainbow unicorn.
I believe the note was sung by Darleen Carr (Charmian's sister) and added on - he couldn't sing that high!
This dude is definitely gay
Such a pure beautiful note in a young unchanged voice! (But not belted, definately sung in the head voice. ;) )

R.I.P. Heather Menzies (Louisa Von Trapp} who passed away on Christmas Eve 2017. May God rest your soul.
That is sad two of the girls are gone. I wonder if the remaining cast members will continue to do reunions?
Emily Malden well julie andrews is still alive
So is Christopher Plummer. I was wondering if the cast would have the heart to do reunions since two have passed away. Maybe they will.
anthony eisenhower My friends cousin died on Christmas an she had very rare cancer 😭😭😭
That’s fun to here because my name is Louisa.....
1:00-1:07 is me on the last day of school.
Brigitta was always my favorite. So sassy. I remember first watching the film and counting the children as they came down the stairs and openly stating that there were 6 not 7. Then bam! In comes Brigitta reading a book, not even caring about what her father would do.
After that my Nana nicknames me Brigitta because 1) I was seriously observant as a 5 year old and 2) I loved reading.
Absolutely adore Angela Cartwright.
She was born in the same place as me, Altrincham, Manchester, England. I thought that was so cool when I found out
I love Brigitta she’s also my favourite character and reminds me of myself so much also physically my sibling and other ppl have told me I look a bit like her
I like how the other kids are like "I hate to go..." and Brigitta's all "I'm glad to go!"
Me tooo
🤣😌
This was my mothers dream she had 6 daughters but unfortunately none of us could sing
Lol, awww.
ใ
my mother would love it if our family of six would all do a number together
about a year ago I watched a video of me as a 1year old, my sister 3, brother 7 and sister 10, doing this. one of the cutest things I've ever seen

I'm that part in my play!! LUCKY!!
I love this movie so much. I adore how kind Liesl is to her younger siblings, especially the little ones, like Gretl.
She is the stereotypical oldest sister/like a second mom character and I love it.
AFC Richmond brought me here.
adiosssSSSsssssSSSsssssss
Liesel- I like to stay and taste my first champagne. Yes?
Captain Von Trapp - No

Just the way Christopher Plummer delivered the “No” line is priceless

I just loved it especially when one of the girl’s asked if she could have her very first champagne- seriously I just crack up at that and also that’s my favourite part of the song.
I'm 61 years old and I still love and watch this movie every year during the Christmas holidays! My favorite as a child.
I find it sad that they no longer play this movie on Christmas Eve on TV like they did in the 80's --- I used to love watching it every year as a teen
Yes! One of a handful of movies deserving of an annual viewing…..The Wizard of Oz is also in that lineup for me.
@@fredwerza3478teenagers today still watch this
I remember seeing this movie as a kid and thought it was amusing. Then it scared me with the part with the Nazis. The songs to this day are stuck in my head. I must sadly say that this song is fitting as a farewell to Charmian Carr. This year is a such a sad year. First David Bowie, Alan Rickman, then Gene Wilder, and now Charmian Carr. Why must parting be such sweet sorrow?
it is a epic movie i wish i had seen it before middle school
blitzwaffe because the best of the best have to part someday.
All the greats are slowly passing. I bet not many remember that Cilla Black passed away a few years ago too.
And Prince too!!!!!!!!!!!
*Snape* 😢
It's sad the way no ones actually appreciating the music. I'm dying over the cuteness of Gretal, and simply this musical. I even like the captain. Maria, Gretal and Curt are my favourites! And I think half the people who had watched this video have never seen this musical.Sound of music, is just a beautiful musical.
Cloudfall WC This movie is in my heart.
I like them too!
Thank you for your nice comment about our family ❤️
Speaking of Kurt, the “goodbye” part was done by Charmian Carr’s (Liesl’s) younger sister. Not Duane Chase
Loved seeing this re-enacted in Ted Lasso in the series finale!
My daughter played Liesl in this show 3 years ago and it was amazing. This musical is such a classic. I've loved it since I was 4 years old!
What's her name?
My niece played Mother Abess in middle school.
My sister played Liesl too in high school. She was hoping to get the lead role of maria but got Liesl and didn't like kissing the mailboy lol! I mean the (student) boy who played him. Lol!
I can watch this film over and over not getting tired of watching it.
Madam Ossy same
0:08 The thing Brigitta does tho xD
One of the most beautiful movies ever made, so heartwarming.

"No!"
XD Liesel!
correction: I'd like to stay and taste my first champagne

REJECTION!!
Just the way Christopher Plummer delivered the “No” line is priceless
One of the best films ever with one of the greatest openings.
Had to look it up after Ted Lasso… 😂 🤦♂️
in this version and the other one online they cut off before the crowd at the party sings back "good-bye" I like how they respond.. it shows that they were listening and are willing to respond. It gives comfort. This is the ultimate 'human' interaction.. hearing and responding in kindness. The Adults have a 'unified front' they act together when they respond .. This supports the children and shows that they are not merely performers but rather that 'we're all in this together... and I've got your back!"
The Children's voices are nice as individuals but when the crowd comes in there is a depth also there is Harmony that is impossible with the individual voice. It is a great experiment Individuals that come together to form society and that society is broader and stronger than the individual.. the response of the party to the children is in a way to show that these kids for all their wire and duct tape solutions and the 'can-do' mentality are in fact supported by a variety of interests that all are aiming to help and support the children. Without that response it's mere voyeurism. Merely seeking to look AT people. Never AT rather .. with!
don't cut off the ending to the clip!!!
Scott Jones I was waiting for the final goodbye 😭
they cut off the beginning too
@@lizandrapinto890 ME TOO :'(( I was ready to sing the low goodbye with the other audience but left here with dissapointment
When I get married, I'm going to make my kids perform this for my dinner guests.
😂😂😂
They did it in the movie out of pure happiness.... later they didn't like it when she leaved and they were forced to sing .... its terrible
Oh god, no!
Someone should inform the child protective services.

At the end when the guests sing goodbye back to the children always brings a tear to my eye and a smile to my face the way they sound the harmonization is just amazing 🥹💖

Agree with you! People usually make fun of this movie but it’s truly a masterpiece. Movies from that era are untouchable. Glad you liked it!
Best Xmas movie ever
Just finished watching it tonight. It came on TV and I couldn't turn the channel and rewatched it and remembered yet again just how great a movie it is. 🙂😊🥲🙂🙂🥰
Hollywood just doesn't make movies like these anymore sadly.
i wish they’d included the crowd’s choral “Good-byeeee!” so pretty

It was priceless the way the captain waved his hand at Kurt. The way the captain effortlessly waves his hand at Kurt saying “get outta here” is part of the magic that is missing from the Carrie Underwood version.

She did it right! Bless her soul.
I can't help but keep on rewinding Gretl's part. SHE IS JUST TOO ADORABLE
I developed such a crush on her when I first saw this film in 1965. And before you jump to conclusions-I was six at the time. Then I saw a reunion special a few years back and she's totally gorgeous. So yeah I got good taste-then and now.

The most epic musical ever.
What an extra way to say goodbye don't ya think?😂
One if the best movie I've ever watched. I can't imagine how good this is in a play.
The movie got more critical acclaim and popular response than the Broadway musical. Initially Mary Martin played Maria in the musical. I think the gorgeous scenery in and around Salzburg, Austria helped make the movie more appealing.
At 0:36 Liesl got herself embarrassed in front of a huge crowd
This movie is my favorite

Simply a Masterpiece! Few movies transcend time!
I have neighbours with three kids and every time they walk down the street they are always in a single file and I don't know why but every time I see that this song comes in my head 😂
The BlakenatorReviews 👌😂
This movie is so good! I don’t really like musicals usually I find them seriously dull and cringeworthy but this and west side story are amazing. Heartwarming movie.
That's because the plot line in most musicals exists only to move the story to the next song. But there are exceptions, such as the two you mentioned and also "Oklahoma!". The auction scene in "Oklahoma!" is very intense for a musical.
No champagne for you! Lol.
Love this song.
This is one of the best movies ever made.
