CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Maria (Julie Andrews) and the children ride throughout Austria singing "Do-Re-Mi."
FILM DESCRIPTION:
One of the most popular movie musicals of all time, The Sound of Music is based on the true story of the Trapp Family Singers. Julie Andrews stars as Maria, a young nun in an Austrian convent who regularly misses her morning prayers because she enjoys going to the hills to sing the title song. Deciding that Maria needs to learn something about the real world before she can take her vows, the Mother Superior (Peggy Wood) sends her off to be governess for the children of the widowed Captain Von Trapp (Christopher Plummer). Arriving at the Trapp home, Maria discovers that her new boss is cold and aloof, and his seven children virtual automatons-at least, whenever the Captain is around. Otherwise, the kids are holy terrors, as evidenced by the fact that Maria is the latest in a long line of governesses. But Maria soon ingratiates herself with the children, especially oldest daughter Liesl (Charmian Carr), who is in love with teenaged messenger boy Rolf. As Maria herself begins to fall in love with the Captain, she rushes back to the Abbey so as not to complicate his impending marriage to a glamorous baroness (Eleanor Parker). But the children insist that Maria return, the Baroness steps out of the picture, and Maria and the Captain confirm their love in the song "Something Good." Unhappily, they return home from their honeymoon shortly after the Nazis march into Austria. Already, swastikas have been hung on the Von Trapp ancestral home, and Liesl's boyfriend Rolf has been indoctrinated in the "glories" of the Third Reich. The biggest blow occurs when Von Trapp is called back to active duty in the service of the Fuhrer. The Captain wants nothing to do with Nazism, and he begins making plans to take himself and his family out of Austria.

The Sound of Music is a timeless classic!
Yes, for sure! My own mother absolutely loved this film ever since she saw it in theaters at the age of 8 when it was being re-released a few years after its original 1965 premiere. We have the film on DVD and she once told me that before we got the film on DVD, that she must have watched TV airings Sound of Music for around 30 times. :)
Lies again? MLS CUP Know Malay
The only musical I actually like. It’s in my top 50 of all time.
*Yes*
In my opinion the greatest musical ever
Mindblower undisputable fact!!!
Your not wrong
Maybe if it wasn't three hours long and didn't have a weak second half
@@crazyalarmstudios2012 both
Totally agree
the cinematograhpy in this movie and the movie itself lOOKS like being taped recently
70mm film and a 8K remaster can go a long way.
Adrian Paul Diongzon h,imkik
In another dimension
It really doesn't but ok
Filmed well; not recently.
If this was filmed recently all the scenes would feature shakycam, everyone's clothing would be revealing, and it would be so dark that you couldn't see anything.
Even though this was released in 1965, LOOK AT THE HIGH QUALITY OF THIS!!!!!
Ikr?! Even with the HD on, it looks like it was made in the 2000s!
Oh wow! Now that I look at the high quality, it does look very ahead of its time!
When it was first released it was lower quality and most of the time black and white. The movie was remastered later using more modern computers to process the original film used.
RIGHT!!!!
Yes!!
Such an incredibly talented woman
Very
Julie’s high note at the end was the icing on the cake.
Or the cherry on top of ice cream
The spirit of ecstasy on a Rolls Royce.
if anyone didnt know julie wasnt just hitting a high note, she was going up 3 octaves in one breath, in perfect pitch with her head voice in bravado!!! (correct me if im wrong) shes a god sent angel who has probably the most amazing vocal range to date.
Elizabeth Schmidtberger Absolutely awesome vocal range. Absolutely impossible she was actually singing in that scene.
All the songs were pre-recorded obviously before they went on location. Julie was so good at lip-sync that it looks real time.
Even though its pre-recorded its just, wow... Doing that is damn near impossible. And probably tiring as all hell. Theres only two ppl i can think in modern day time who could possibly do this justice is Lady Gaga, and Amy Lee from Evanescence. I cant think anyone else living who has that strong of voice like Julie
@@lizs5283 what about brendon urie? i think he could
It is not just about a strong voice, it is also about pitch and breath control. Julie had a wonderful natural 'instrument' but she also had years of formal singing tuition with her mentor, a noted concert soprano Lilian Stiles-Allen, who enabled her to make the best use of it. Julie didn't actually think her voice WAS strong enough for opera which inclined her to musical theatre instead.
My grandmother was the choir director in her church for a number of years and a beloved singer in her town. When I was little she gave my 3 younger sisters and myself singing lessons using the music from the sound of music. She made us perform this song for our family and honestly it is one of my favorite memories. We fully intend on performing at her funeral when the time comes. She is 91 and an absolute sweetheart! Love you grandma!
Great musical lesson, I must say
Why wait until she dies to sing it to her? Give her flowers while she is here!!! You all can record your singing on Zoom, if you live in different places. Just a suggestion...🤷🏽♀️
Thy Grandmother is a diamond of our time indeed.
@@NubianGiraffeLady999 Appreciate people when they are alive you know my people.
I watched this movie as I was a little boy. Now I am living in Austria for the past decade. I have to say, it's one of the most magical places that I have ever lived in. Every time I go away for a trip I get sad and want to go back. Never thought I would miss such a country where I am not even a citizens of.
That’s lovely. Austria is an incredibly beautiful place.
You are so lucky. Well done!

@@myusernameissoobnoxiouslyl1466 Yeh I know that lol, I mean in the make believe movie world.
I love that fact. Thank u.
@@GuitarLessonsBobbyCrispy I saw the previous replies to your comment. Oh, gee, people don't understand -.-
@@myusernameissoobnoxiouslyl1466 They mean not the actors, the characters. -.-
I've always thought that from 1:28 to the end they were just jumping up and down randomly on those steps, but I have just realised that they are jumping back and forth to the step that corresponds to the note they're singing.
That's why the two boys run ahead of them up the steps, they are singing 'so' on the fifth step while Maria is singing 'do' on the first.
They all get it perfectly except for Louisa. She and Liesl were supposed to jump from 'fa' to 'mi' straight away. Liesl did, Louisa didn't. At 1:36 she realises she's on the wrong step, goes to correct it, then jumps to 'fa', albeit a little late.
Wooooww... Impressive observation
It's okay I still love they performance
@@millicentasiamah576 Thank you, Millicent
What a nice speech
Actually, the actress who played Liesl (Charmian Carr) said in an reunited with the cast interview that actually, she was the one who made the mistake, not Louisa (Heather Menzies). Her mistake got Louisa confused cause they were suppose to jump at the same time. Heather didn't know that until the interview and they were laughing so loud. Plus, they both said it was a surprise they used that take, cause they did the scene corectly so many times, yet they still end up using this one. You can find the interview on yt, I think it's from the 90s maybe.
I went to the place where they filmed it and I insisted jumping on those stairs. people thought I was insane
you're not insane! coz, this movie is wonderful
I would never thought of that way coz' that would literally be one of my biggest dreams to fulfill 😂
What Area Was It In?
XD
Those people obviously didn't know the movie
I live in Salzburg, where they made the movie. And i grow up in the town where the curch is, where they married in the end of the movie. When you visit salzburg, make the "sound of music tour," it´s worth it. ♥

It's so funny to read that, due to licensing/copyright difficulties, The Sound of Music never played on Austrian tv until the late 1980s, so for two decades Austrians had no idea why busloads of Americans were always going through town singing about Edelweiss.
Cheryl Elliot Imagine tour groups of Austrians at the Lincoln Memorial singing 'Yankee Doodle' sporting MAGA hats w a pigeon feather in them😃
Cheryl Elliot LOL
I live in Salzburg and most of us have never seen the movie. But it's true, there are a lot of people here, only because of the sound of music.

They are not Americans fyi
PURE GOOSEBUMPS! What talent Julie has! Words cannot convey the emotion I feel when I hear her hit the fourth octave!
That's a pretty special moment. The whole song is genius and the perfect accompaniment to any group bike ride.
No goosebumps is a different show
By my opinion no singer these days can sing as beautiful as Julie andrews those days. Her voice is loved by me and I’m shure that it’s also by so many others today
When she hits that high note, I always think she's holding her head so it doesn't pop lol
Joey Weems I just started the sound of music challenge on my channel. check it out and participate if you are confident enough. try to be as spot on as possible. share with your friends! I sung the end of thing song! High note included!
Joey Wee

Joey Weems yeah lol
Joey Weems hahah I thought my phone is going to expolode😂😂😂😂
I remember my friends and I singing this when they taught me how to ride a bike😂 we were literally riding through the streets singing it was so much fun!🤩
Maria is like the Von Trapp's personal music teacher. From the moment Maria sees that Captain Von Trapp's children never learned any music or songs Maria teaches them how to sing which really brings back Captain Von Trapp's sense of music.
Julie Andrews....... My word, to do 3 octaves in one breath like that. If she wasn't an actress she could've been in Opera. My word. Although she has lost her voice now. This scene defines the great art of singing. This is proper musical talent.
2 octaves ;-)
Do (Bb4), So (F5), Do (Bb5)
But amazing nonetheless.
This film has great cinematography.
One of life's best moments is this movie. Amazing Julie is still alive and kicking. We need this music right about now!
I somehow remember listening to this at the age of 4, at my kindergarten. This is the biggest nostalgia I've ever had.
The Sound of Music will always be one of my favourites. Even though I am 22, and was born long after this movie was released, I still love it to this day.
I love Julie Andrews so much 😊 Such a talent.
No CG. No stunts. No Hollywood explosions. No technology. Everything is so simple. They’re walking and singing and it’s the most memorable movie ever. Great script. Great music. Something sorely missing from today’s productions filled with vulgar language, bedroom scenes, and loud bangs and CGI just to keep people entertained. In comparison writers don’t write like this anymore.
@Diamond Tribe There’s nothing wrong with expressing opinions different from ours, and there’s nothing wrong with people not liking too much CG once in a while. Chill the F out.
I love how as the scene continues, their harmonies and understanding of every note becomes more advanced the more she teaches them
We just took a trip to Salzburg because of this movie! Love every minute of it! To walk on the ground of places where they filmed was truly a dream-come-true moment for me! ❤️

The magical Julie Andrews, at that time, touched by the hand of the Divine
tosius2 This will always be a great classic movie. They don't make movies like this today, it's rather sad.
She is Mary Poppins too
At 1:12, was I the only one thinking this woman is fast as hell?? lol
+lightningshock12 no XD
Wait how is hell fast? JK I thought of that too. lol
Logically, I'd have no idea lol

0:59-1:06 dang... Those background vocals from the children are spot on!
Love it when she hits that high note!!!
When you visit Salzburg all of this just comes alive. Salzburg is the best "Little Big Town" in Europe!
Rumors say she was tipsy in parts of this scene. Either that's not true, or Julie Andrews can hold her liquor like a BOSS.
Not likely, but not impossible. Christopher Plummer on the other hand, readily admits he was tipsy during Edelweiss.
this is true
TheRepty818 fv
I would drink with Julie for her health!
TheRepty818 I hope it's not true. (The rumor, that is.) There has to be some truth to her "clean" image! I hope she was sober, but excited.
Timeless classic. Watched it for the first time when I was about 8 or 9 years old..and still love it to this day. Hope they don't ruin it by remaking it. Come on. no actress could replace Julie. She is unique.

the last note of julie superb! too bad she cannot do that this time
Story runs with music, Julie adds essence, it's always new to me
There are good movies and there are greatest of all time movies. I love this timeless classic.
When I was younger, my mom would sing this song to me when I was upset or before I went to bed. She’s still alive but it’s been so long since I’ve last heard it, so it brought back nice memories.
Yesssss
this movie really brings my childhood back oml🥺 this was the best musical i have ever seen its just so exciting and so beautiful and well put together it’s just amazinf
What a legendary scene and song, I admire it
And this is also the best movie that Julie Andrews ever made! She should have won the Oscar for Best Actress for this. If she did, she would have had two back-to-back Oscars. (She won for Mary Poppins the previous year; 1964.)
even though that movie is over 50 years old, I am still listening this amazing song in 2016
Great movie. Still good in 2016.
Farkle Minkus The day this gets old will be the day music actually dies. So that's a NEVER!
Farkle Minkus im in 2019
2022 and still here ✋
I don't know that another movie of this caliber has been made. Every song is simply correct. You don't even have to know the movie to know the music. Inspirational.
I remember learning this song at school when I was about five or six, but I saw it only about three years ago, I didn't really like it at the time, but now, I absolutely love watching this!!!
A timeless classic, the best musical film of all time.
É simplesmente espetacular. Como algo tão simples pode ser tão incrível e atemporal.
This is so simple and so amazing!!! A Great song for all time,
I love so much this great masterpiece. One of my favorites movies. A magnificent movie which give back joy of life in sad moments. See this movie when you're sad or depressed and you will feel better, I assure you.

We went for the sound of music tour in Salzburg a few years ago. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the various locations including the gazebo. In my childhood my father took me to the movie when we lived in Mumbai. This movie has taken a unique place in my mind since. What a great production! All these actors and actresses have left a indelible mark in our minds. May god bless them.
Poe,a pilot a resistance pilot

And that brings us back to Poe, oh, oh, oh
This is gold XD

That's very good!
Awesome
Clever.
Pure magic!
1:39 can we take a second to appreciate how long she holds that note.
@Diamond Tribe she held it for six seconds. If you ask me that's pretty impressive, especially since she has no time to breathe before immediately going into the Do.
Julie Andrews is a beautiful talented goddess I love her work

Julie Andrews and this movie version of the Von Trapp kids is why I fell in love with Europe as an American kid. I still hope that some of this spirit still exists in real life.

I love The Sound of Music...especially Do Re Mi. Even after watching it a zillion times. And the high note at the end... zowie! Too bad Julie has not been able to sing since that fiasco with the throat surgery.
I hope Liesl (Charmian Carr) is hitting a zillion high notes, like that one, up in heaven.
Today at church, Ellen, my favorite organist/choir director, sang some high notes I didn't know she had the range for. She has a deep speaking voice so I didn't know she was a first soprano.(I had thought she was a second soprano or an alto. I prefer first sopranos, so I was thrilled to hear her sing first soprano.) Bravo Ellen!
Love Andrews high note at the end there
One of my favorite movies. Love Ms Julie Andrews. The late Christopher Plummer in this as well.
The Beatles, Dylan, The Stones, and The Sound Of Music. 1965 was some year for music!

My 5 grade teacher tried to get the whole class to sing this song for a talent show.
And in rehearsal we failed terribly.
And out teacher threw her music book down to the ground and yelled I GIVE UP!
It's hard to control a class of 11 year olds. In grade five we tried singing the title song 'Sound of Music' And we failed terribly.
