If you would have seen the KARATE music video you would know that BABYMETAL would absolutely destroy The Warning in a fight. Su-metal punches the ground in that video and it leaves a massive crater in the ground.

Saw this live in Toronto a couple of weeks back - it's even better than you could imagine from a crowd interaction perspective.

  • @Grington300

Didn't you see 'Karate'? Moa can catch flies with her eyes closed and BABYMETAL never give up, even when they've been knocked down and everything seems hopeless they get back up and battle on. Of course BABYMETAL would win, they've got all the moves. But after they'd won the fight they would help the Warning girls back up to encourage them to take their own path ... because 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai'.
Anyway, this song - "Wasshoi! Wasshoi! Wasshoi! Wasshoi!“ Welcome back, great reaction. The live performances of this have been completely wild and the crowds are going nuts! 🤘🤪🤘
The song title translates as 'Metali' (or 'Metari') which is a fusion of the words metal and matsuri (festival). The song is about a Metal Village holding a metal festival, so they have included all the matsuri shouts everybody would be calling out as encouragement to the people carrying heavy floats etc like "Sore, Sore", "Dokoisho" and "Wasshoi!".
They are inviting us all to dance - I am reliably informed there is something in the lyrics (Su sings it and it is in Momometal's kabuki section) about we are all idiots or fools - the idiots who watch and the idiots who dance ... so as we're all here and we're all idiots why just watch, we may as well all dance.
This is what Tom Morello said about this song:
"I am a big fan of BABYMETAL, a band that is both power rocking and constantly surprising with dizzying musical twists and turns. I’ve been trying to work with them for some time and when they sent me the demo of METALI!! I knew I could rock that shit like crazy!"
Just to pick you up on a couple of things you said. You clearly forgot what you learned during your BABYMETAL series. The song writing was always really good - 'Gimme Chocolate' was not only not their first song it was also not typical. They had some great and very deep songs like IDZ and Megitsune which also had a very complex song structure - and talking complex song structures in songs long before GC was recorded, don't forget 'iine' and 'Uki Uki Midnight'.😁
On the Captain Pugwash crew names (I used to love some Captain Pugwash "Ahaarrr me hearties!") .... you know you said you couldn't make that stuff up? Someone did - those were all urban myth joke names. I don't remember all the "real" crew names, but it was Tom the cabin boy, not Roger.

Welcome back to BabyMetal's journey, it's been a while.
We got another banger for Japanese festival or any festival around, they performed this at Houston starting The Babyklok Tour in the US as well in all the cities they've been around and finishing the live tour in the US, they did the same at Aftershock and Louder Than Life getting the crowd going nuts with this.
It's their first song released with this new BM reborn and formation.
The live debut was at Apocrypha - Another One exclusive show right before the track released, it was fun and totally unexpected, everyone was having a blast and even started with a Kami Band solo after a while without it.
There's a live proshot version at Summer Sonic Festival in Osaka released just recently but it seems is heavily blocked.
The song title is Metali!! (metal + matsuri, which is a Japanese festival) and you can hear it in the spoken section when one of them (MomoMetal) is doing the Kabuki moves style.
Just so you know "wasshoi" is another shout used in Japanese festival when men are carrying the shrine, similar to sore and soya you can hear in Megitsune and Karate. The traditional Japanese instrument you can hear in the beginning is a shamizen, also used in Megitsune.
I can totally see why they pick Tom Morello on this, the groove, the catchiness, the super energetic jump and those typical 90's vibes at funk or alternative metal live concerts.
Thanks for sharing this and see you next time.🦊🤘🎸

Yay! Welcome back to Babymetal, really enjoyed your deep dive week on them a while back.
One thing I must say, yes, Babymetal has grown since the “Gimme Chocolate” days, both in style and maturity. However, they have had complex and very well written songs since the early days. This applies to lyrics, song structure, and musical composition. Of course, they have their simple and goofy ones too.
I’m sure you’ll find out if you check out more!
Suggestion: Tales of The Destinies - prog metal masterpiece, with a heavy nod to Dream Theater.

Warning played Milton Keynes in the UK ,BabyMetal played Wembley Arena 😮 and won the hearts of Sonisphere metalheads in 2014 when Su was still 16 and Yui and Moa only just 15 and your main weapon has only one base drum BabyMetal has 2 ( all in fun Warning are great as well ) 😁🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼

Love what you had to say about Babymetal, they have worked so hard and here's where I give them the edge. They have against all odds created their own genre of metal. And from a very young age-and yes I know the Warning has been playing from a very young age too-have never to my knowledge played anything but original material to the highest professional standards. And whose crowd interaction is of a calibre perhaps never but at the very least rarely been equaled. But the Warning have been amazing in their own right and more power to them.

Babymetal “メタり” Metali (feat) Tom Morello:-
Babymetal have joined forces with Tom Morello of "Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, Prophets of Rage, Lock Up, Street Sweeper Social Club, Axis of Justice, Class of '99, Shandi's Addiction" for a new single ‘Metali’.
The new song is the latest in the Japanese kawaii metal band’s series of star-studded collaborations, and sees them partner with the Rage guitarist for another up-tempo, electrifying track.
The group first teased the release last week and, according to the press release, ‘Metali’ is “officially the first song by the newly reborn” group - now consisting of SU-METAL, MOAMETAL, and MOMOMETAL. It also confirms that the single was created with the vision of their crowd forming a circle pit at a metal festival this summer.
Babymetal - METALI (feat. Tom Morello)” was released as a digital Single in 2023. The Japanese Title “メタり” has a distinctive style of kana usage. It is written as the nominal form of the made up verb “to do metal”.
This song is characterized by the classic metal style of the Japanese band, combined with some j-rap touches that distinguish it from previous releases. And of course, the subject gets more frantic through the classic guitar style of Tom Morello, which fits quite well in the musical

Babymetal versus the Warning, I guess I have to go with Babymetal, first you can try and catch them but apparently you can’t, they have an entire road dedicated to resisting everything, they have their own kingdom, they know karate, and if that isn’t enough can distort everything while they call down a divine attack… and Su’s death glare.. and Yui could read soul like the Sunday times.

IMO it's disrepectful to compare these two bands; both are exceptional in their own right. Comparing a primarily rock group against one that is genre-bender is apple v oragnes.
However, in a cage match it is no contest. The stamina and physicality of Babymetal would wear out the Warning. Babymetal are warriors. The petite (she is not small) Moametal is a ninja, especially protecting her queen. Momometal is well--versed in using dual swords. And Su-metals death stare .
