7 years ago we were struggling to make ends meet and we had to go to our local food banks. I broke down and cried when signing in cause I never needed help before. The volunteers were so compassionate and assured me that I was not the first person who has ever cried. Now that I am in a better place, I donate to a pantry to help others.

That is totally awesome! More people need to know that the services are out there and if they don't go then in some places things get thrown away. It is my goal to show people that it is ok and it is a way to get things stocked up and preserved in your pantry.

Where I live, we are encouraged to do so and share the blessings. I have become a way for those very people who are in need to receive what is to much for me. Many whom I share with are working during the food bank hours and I share it with them when they get home. It is exactly those "others" that I split the food with.

I am going to can my carrots in brown sugar and orange juice. I hope you have a pressure canner or can borrow one. Pickled cukes and pickled peppers! See if they have any free vinegar. I look beyond the almost rotten vegetables and see the potential. I appreciate your comment. That is why I get into the vegetables within 2 days to get them preserved in a way that will help them to last longer. This was something we did on the farm my entire childhood. We pulled all the vegies from the garden as they ripened and when the plants had done all they could, we pulled the green ones off and made sustainable food out of them. I remember fried green tomatoes and chow chow so clearly and how good they were. Those were made from the green tomatoes that were left on the plants after the plants died.

We got a GIANT cabbage last time, too. I’m still slicing pieces off of it and using it. Last night, I cooked some with sausage, which is my usual go-to. And we’d gotten a bag of beautiful fresh broccoli and I cooked some of that too. As for blueberries, I always make cobblers - especially if there is a covered dish dinner to go to.
In our area, we have two food truck distributions a month. We don’t get as much at a time as we used to, but with only two of us in our 70’s, we don’t eat that much. Like you, I give what we won’t use to another elderly couple.

Cabbage , cubed potatoes, hamburger, cream of mushroom soup, pepper, when it's done we throw cheddar cheese on top. It is so good I don't even go by a recipe I just throw it all together in a covered pan and toss in the oven. I do precook the hamburger.

Any responsible adult will have a stockpile of food in their home. That is not hoarding. That is simply recognizing that our distribution system is a very fragile thing. If you do not store some food over and above your current needs, you are very foolish and will become a huge burden on those around you just when society most needs you to take care of yourself for a while. If she has extra, she is well advised to can or dehydrate a portion for long term storage. In fact, if you do not have some extra food, I urge you to go to your pantry and concentrate on fixing that situation, so unforeseen events don't force you to become a danger to your neighbors.

Did you know that most of the people who get food stamps have jobs? There is a huge problem in this country that for some reason, wages fell far behind inflation. Trust me. That bag of cheese isn't so big even for one person. First of all, it will make that cheap mac and cheese taste really good. And with those potatoes, she has the start to cheese and potato soup. And then mix it with pimentos and mayo for pimento cheese sandwich spread. Of course, you want some on your omelets. Don't forget to do a loaded potato. The thing is things come and go. You may get a big bag now and then not see any for months. So, it is also good to freeze some while the getting is good.

You can hoard all you want, but do you share with some with no food? I don't believe in hoarding food if someone else is needy. That's what food banks are for! The needy!

You really need to watch some of my other videos to get an idea of what I am doing. In the end, all I wish for you is to be blessed and find your happy place.

Kroger's 2 for $1.00 vegetables and beans is a great place to pick up for donating. A few pucks buy a lot more.❤❤

I'm sorry, however this woman is really upsetting me. I'm not judging her, it just doesn't feel right...

@tinahinkle1956 Then why are you watching this if it’s upsetting you? I suspect most of the negative comments on here and especially the ones trying to shame this lady are really wanting and wishing they had the guts to go to food banks for help but have too much pride. I think it’s wonderful for anyone needing help to step up and get what’s so freely offered, there’s no shame in that.

Of course she does. She is a farm girl! We always did things at the kitchen sink too.
