Redo, sorry for the mishap. Glad it wasn’t any worse than that(bad enough) and that your wife was able to get to you fairly quickly. Wishing the best on your recovery.
I fell skiing in January… I lost a tendon but didn’t realize it until much later when I noticed my grin wasn’t very good. It took me 3 months… lots of PT.. but I have a functional thumb again… amazing how much we need those thumbs.. prayers that yours gets better fast!
I am so sorry your trip ended that way and I hope you mend well. You did really, really well getting you and Leo out of there. You remained relatively calm and level-headed. You joked about still filming, but I feel the camera helped you keep the calm edge you needed to keep on walking. I feel you and your wife deserve a bit of a glam vacation, with nothing but luxury, good food, and good music. Hang in there!
A few things. 1st, love the hat, 2nd that was lighting reaction speed to compressing the cut. Last, amazing job on maintaining a clear head and not freaking out. Prayers for a quick recovery.
Wow, that's too bad. This is the reality of roughing it: working off the ground in awkward positions, etc. I'm so sorry about the injury. I know you were going for the full-on survival challenge, but it makes sense to always have a first-aid kit with butterfly sutures, etc. That fish, the bowfin, grennel, shoepick, or choupique, is a prehistoric species dating back to the Triassic period. They are interesting survivalists. The water can dry entirely up, and being able to breathe in the water and air, they will burrow into the mud and make a slime pod to live in (aestivate) until the next rain. Although studies have shown they can live up to 5 days without water, no studies I know have considered how long they can live in their below-ground mud pods. I suspect they can possibly live for months. Their meat is extraordinary and hard to describe. It is almost like a mush. Most people here in Lousiana prepare the meat like a gar ball.....rice, panco, onion, and spices made into a ball and deep fried. They can grow quite large, 15-20 pounds. As an avid fisherman, I can tell you they will flat-out mangle a spinnerbait and are brutal fighters. I'm sorry your trip ended as it did, but it sure drives home the realities of bush life. I hope you recover fully intact, and I look forward to you giving it another go. Get well soon. Oh, and thank you for acknowledging the Lord-it's a brave thing to do these days.
Wow, that was not good. Glad you could get out of there in a timely fashion. Thankful there was no infection and they could repair the tendons quickly. Be patient as it heals; speaking from experience with injuries, give it the time it needs to get back to 100%. Of course we have to do a redo... as if there were a choice. Thanks for sharing!
Oh Lordy. I got squishy watching that cut!!! So glad you are doing well. Hope for a speedy recovery. You are in great health and that helps for sure! Definitely a redo when all is well. ❤
Omgosh!! And I was worried about alligators. Holy cats. Kinda reminded me of the time I was washing a glass and stuck my hand in to clean it, and it broke. Blood was pulstating from the top of my thumb. It didn't hurt until the next day, and then I felt like someone hit it with a hammer. Still have the scar 30 yrs later. Im glad you got it all fixed up. It could have been so much worse. But that was scary. Prayers you heal quickly without problems. Id like to see a redo, but use a rock or something. Lol Big hugs to Leo ❤ ✌️🫶🤛🤜
😳UCH Michael ! 😬 Just a little detour until your next adventure and I’ll be there with you. 😀👍 You were doing outstanding until the mishap but as you have shown us before, you had planned well for various situations and/or unexpected events. Take care. Wishing you a Speedy recovery ❤️🩹.
Prayers for a speedy and complete recovery. Redo please! Considering you are filming and learning the craft, what if you just used a Sawyer filter for the next trip? Procuring your own food is difficult enough. I really feel like you were pressed for time. Blessings whichever route you choose.
Ouch man, hope you are doing better. I know hindsight is 20/20, but look into combat gauze. I never go camping without it, its very use is for a cut like you had. God Bless and get well for a redo
Definitely redo! I live in Nova Scotia and I was taught to dispatch the fish by banging on their head with a hard object (knife, rock, etc., depending on size). Since they're so slippery and moving, it's an easier way to dispatch with less of a chance of injuring yourself. I'm so sorry you had to go through such an uncomfortable experience. I'm glad your spirits are still high and that you're not going to let this stop you from outdoor adventures!
I'm sorry that this happened but I have no doubt that it will deter you from future challenges. Maybe a little suggestion regarding water collection. The bank by the river seems to be sandy. Maybe you should dig a hole near the river and wait for the river water to filter through the sand into the hole and then boil it. I wish you a speedy recovery.
Oh gosh! So sorry this happened! Glad you had a good exit strategy to get to the ER and get patched up! I am sure it didn't feel too good when they unwrapped your thumb! I believe I would have passed out! You are a survivalist! Hang in there! Look forward to your next video!!!🙏
Omg! That was intense! Wishing you the best! Glad you were able to make it out safe. Hope the mend is successful and there is minimal damage! Hope this video doesn't get the DE for the blood.
Oh my goodness!!! I’m so sorry that happened to you!!! I am praying that your hand heals well without any complications 🙏 I’m sure you will be needing some physical therapy to regain your mobility and strength to your thumb. It really is a joint that we use so much and take for granted until it’s hurt😢 I am so grateful that it was not worse than it was!! It will be really great to see you have a do over of the survival challenge. That’s if your wife will allow it🥰🥰🥰 I just kept thinking to myself while I was watching you , “ oh my gosh! Be careful with that knife!” When I saw the thumbnail and knew that you ended up in the ER, I immediately thought that you got sick to your stomach from eating that fish. When you cut yourself, I was saying OH NOOOO!!!! Take care and get well soon🙏🙏🙏
Glad you got to the ER and they could repair the cut thumb! Hope it will be as good as new. I don’t think you should do the 5 day challenge again. I’d rather see a hiking trip.
Hard to watch those cute lizards and fish being killed... I could never hunt. But I have to say that I felt like I was watching an episode of Alone Day 1. It felt exactly like it, except they don't usually have tarp tents with them. I would have loved that camping spot, but with my backpacking equipment and a good stove.
Anything can happen in the backcountry. Accidents happen. Game can be scarce or nearly nonexistent at any given location. Hunter gathering is tough. I am glad you are okay and could get out to the assistance you needed. I love your hiking videos; I guess I am not your target audience for survival stuff. Hope you heal well.
It’s kind of surreal, watching this, just by chance in the place where it was filmed….. I haven’t gotten to the emergency room visit yet, but I was wondering because I came back a couple days after you started, and I noticed your truck was gone
OUCH! Do NOT cut toward yourself with a knife and be mindful where your other hand is. Ironically, a lady severely injured herself with an axe on Alone.
@@JO-rk5gunot kidding. I care about the guy’s thumb but he had to leave in haste and had exploited multiple resources which went to waste bc he had to bail.
It's so crazy how quick something seemingly simple can turn into a major event ... praying you have a successful recovery period!
Thank you
Oh my goodness, thanks for the warning!! 🫣 Praying you'll heal completely and be right back at it!! 🙏
Thank you, I will
Praying for your speedy recovery and to be able to get back out there soon to complete the challenge - you’ve got this!
Thank you so much!

What happened to the fish? Did it just go to waste? I wouldn’t call that “leaving no trace.”
You also killed at least two “baby frogs” and one seriously cute little lizard. Hope you at least doused your campfire.
Well the fish was returned to the land and will provide for other creatures
The rain had already put out the fire, and the rest was bait
I hope you are kidding man, the guy almost cut his thumb off and you are worried about a fish?????
