In the Shevchenko vs Santos fight I think a lot of fans still see takedowns and time in top position as "winning." Sure, it helps, but if you're on top and still getting lit up then you aren't winning.
I agree. People still give octagon control and aggression value which they almost never have now. You can control a fighter and press forward for 4 minutes and 59 seconds, but if you get outstruck by even one strike you probably lost the round.

Valentina beat Santos I’ve never seen anyone get takedowns like Santos and get outstruke from the person on the bottom like she did like it was egregious she didn’t land any shots from the top
I don't think Taila wanted to expose her arms in case Valentina threw up an armbar or triangle. However if Derek Cleary, Sal D'Amato or Chris Lee were scoring the fight, they would most likely have given Taila the round anyway and the decision.
I’ve seen that happen dozens of times and never once (except for bas rutten) has the person on bottom who outstruck their opponents ever got the round. I think it should be how mma is judged but it never is so you can’t just change how you judge bc the person on top is fighting the champ.
Well, according to the rules of the octagon at the beginning of PPVs grappling is only supposed to come into play in scoring if the striking is close. Striking and grappling, followed by aggression and octagon control. _In that order_ . If that helps.
Honestly it is not said enough, but this channel is the most creatively consistent in its content, and never fails to make me click. Really appreciate your work.
Most people haven't read the criteria for how these fights are judged. If someone lands heavy strikes before being controlled for the rest of the round, the person with the "effective striking" wins the round over the fighter who controls the opponent.
Not entirely accurate. Heavy strikes aren't worth more unless there's an outcome to it (a cut, injury, rocked, knock down etc..) simply throwing hard strikes is not worth more if the opponent is unimpeded. That's why guys like Romero and Rampage lost many decisions. If neither guy is hurt, two Sig strikes land by a point fighter is always worth more on the score card than one power punch that lands but doesn't change the momentum at all.
If a round is comprised mostly of stand-up fighting, the striking is weighed more heavily. If most of the fight takes place on the ground, the grappling is scored more heavily than the striking. One minute of kickboxing for Guy A and four minutes of ground'npound for Guy B means the judges should award the round to Guy B.

Jones won bud. He walked him down almost the entire fight and got 100% of the control time and takedowns. Also the strikes were close but you could argue Jones outlanded him in the 3rd round. But he definitely dominated 4,5 in every aspect of MMA. The first I watched it I had it 2,4,5 for Jones

@@seahawk_nation1275 Neither of those were dominant rounds from Jones. Round 4 was pretty close as well, Reyes landed probably his best shot of the night on Jones in that round. Round 5 was the most 'dominant' (i.e. clear) round for Jones. Damage does mean everything if its pretty clear who did the most in the fight. Only when it gets even do we start factoring in more scoring criteria. Since there was hardly any effective grappling the fight, we should discount that and focus solely on the striking. Reyes wins on damage, 'effective aggression' is only relevant if damage is virtually even which it wasn't at any stage of the fight.

@@twes003 the same can be said. Reyes was hitting air the whole fight go back and rewatch it. He throws a flurry and misses 6/7. Reyes had success because he kept moving his lead leg & would kick at the same time as Jon early in the fight
@@chaeltheamericanmurderersi8450 Nope you are wrong 😂 Jon lost to Reyes and it was a clear loss at that. Jon didn't do enough to retain his title . Jon was outclassed , outstriked , outpointed , outlanded , outperformed , outhustled and even his wrestling ability was neutralized and taken away from him. The statistics proves Reyes was the rightful winner
That Condit loss hits different. He was my favorite fighter and after the loss to GSP I thought Carlos wouldn’t get another shot a the belt but then fights Robbie and gets absolutely robbed
as an armchair fan, i can say allot of armchair fans thinks a takedown is the be all and end all. she took Valentina down a few times buit did fuck all. Valentina was landing more shots even though she was being controlled
People don't realise how little control time means to the scoring criteria, a damage advantage, even a barely noticeable damage advantage should always matter more than control time
I believe Santos vs. Jones deserves an honorable mention tbh.
Santos' eye was busted up because they clashed heads in the third. So not quite "Valentina busted up her eye" kind of situation. Valentina won that one still, but Santos did well and maybe people weren't expecting her to do anything. I was rooting for Santos and believe the clash of heads really changed things since her eye was swelling and she was in obvious pain for the last two rounds.
True. These folks do a lousy job.
So true..she did a groin strike and looking toes in the cage to cage position...dirty fight by bullet
The infamous "Every round shouldn't be 10-9" crashing headlong into, "But some thought she won the first three rounds so she must have won the fight."
i can already tell volk, john, usman and gsp on this list
Why Usman?

Man … im gonna go watch lawler vs condit Rn
I honestly thought GSP won that first round. Biased, but I think he put Hendricks in more danger
I figure Forrest Griffin versus rampage was not going to be here this people love forest.
In the last two rounds both fighters were fighting as if Reyes had the first 3.
@@seahawk_nation1275 No. Reyes won the first 3 rounds that was enough to get him the nod regardless of what Jones did in the final two. Damage > all and Reyes clearly won that category in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Jones didn't get a 10-8 in any of the final rounds to tilt the scoring in his favour.
@@madgavin7568 he still dominated 4,5. It doesn’t have to be a 10-8. Also Jones did more damage in the second. Even though I thought Jones landed more shots in round 3 I still gave Reyes that round because he did more damage that round. I also just rewatched the fight. Still have it 2,4,5 Jones. Also damage doesn’t mean everything. Effective striking and grappling are equally if not more important. So is aggression which Jones was the most aggressive fighter most rounds.
Johnny Hendrix was on steroids in the GSP fight
I'm always a little low key upset when it's not Tommy's voice at the beginning of the video.
I guess I need to watch it again but I was going for Condit watching that fight and still thought Robbie won.
I think Adesanya is an amazing fighter and one of the best champions we have currently but I get why some people get frustrated with him. It's tough to root the champion when they're sitting back waiting for counter for what feels like most of the fight. People always hated Anderson Silva whenever he sat back and didn't push forward like he usually always did
Izzy doesn't sit back in wait .nobody wants to engage anymore...Izzy doesn't want to have to chase fighters like hes had to for the last few fights...same with Rob..he had to chase Rob down because they all starting to fight like Woodley...blame the opponents for being scared to engage...
@@twondagreat8893 Not saying he does it every fight but he has done it before. The first couple rounds in his fight against Costa was like watching paint dry. But that wasn't just on Izzy. Paulo didn't do a damn thing either and got himself leg kicked to the point of embarrassment. He deserved that doggy hump Adesanya gave him for all that shit he talked online 🤣
@@twondagreat8893 Dana just told izzy promises something and doesn't deliver ...he did the opponents too.. but the common part is izzy ...his Stat is fading and dana ain't happy...u r last 10 percent of fans still left
@@twondagreat8893 Logically speaking, why would a fighter push to engage with a counter striker? If you’re a grappler, Izzy has champion level takedown defense, and if you’re a striker, chances are he’d get the counters off on you
Old school honorable mention of Kevin Randlemann vs Bas Rutten
Good thing fans don't get to judge!!
GSP beat Hendricks. Fans are just flabbergasted that such a dominant champ didn't look invincible for once.
Massive W
You have a right to your opinion although I don’t agree with it. 🤭
As rogan says... its about damage.
Yup I just commented that i watched it recently and he definitely won. Took more damage but he won more rounds
It all came down to that first round, that was as close as round 3 of Max vs Volk 2
Ol jonny boy was on steroids 100% when he fought gsp!
I think one of the craziest things I’ve learnt today is that one of my favourite boxing referees is an mma judge. Dunno how that happens but I still love you Tony Weeks
These smiles 😂😂😂
No Adesanya vs. Whittaker 2 ???
Uh no. Lol
I was devastated for Carlos , he should’ve won that night , he def won 3 rounds :( …could’ve changed history of his career
I have watched GSP Hendrix over a dozen times, per round I gave GSP the nod. Now, culminative damage in the fight, I gave that to Hendrix. Hindsight GSP was on to something and the reason performance enhancing drugs are no longer allowed and all these monster's on the UFC payroll all of a sudden couldn't win fights. I had condit over lawler
Both of Benson vs Edgar fights maybe too.
I actually thought Benson won the first but I wouldn't have been mad if Frankie kept the belt. The second one I thought Frankie definitely won. It was almost like a max vs Volk situation, except the first fight was more competitive and I thought Volk won the 2nd too lol.
I don't agree Talia won against the bullet. you didn't include her strikes against Talia doing absolutely nothing besides holding Valentina. You don't get a belt by holding someone because you are scared of them (and doing nothing with that control time) . Valentina barely had a scratch and Talia looked like she got hit by a truck at the end of the fight.
the damage on her face was caused by a headbutt that broke her orbital bone, shevchenko didnt do any damage with her actual strikes
@@bronmill33 but she did do more on the ground than her opponent who was just laying on top.
End of the day its scored by rounds and I got it 3-2 for valentina so
@@comradequico5528 oh yeah, those rabbit punches really did a lot of significant damage and overtakes the multiple submission attempts from taila

Awesome video guys
Gsp shouldn’t be on here he beat Hendricks and Dana was butthurt so right away he was the first trying to convince everyone he lost, just because it looked like he took more damage but some people bruise easier , he didn’t like it and knew if gsp left it be hard for people to accept another fighter as the champ since no one actually beat George for the belt
If a man is beating you senseless and then you wrap him up and choke him the fuck out without ever landing a punch you won the fucking fight
0:45, I mean, last fight Adesanya said he would "show off" and dominate, but in the end did absolutely nothing and afterwards said he doesn't have to entertain drunk people (aka the fans watching)... He deserves all the hate he's getting
Nunes and Valentina fought at UFC 215 not 214.
You are correct, however I think it was originally scheduled for 214.
I was expecting the Wonderboy vs Woodley 1 fight, I thought Wonderboy won it but was ruled as a draw. Nonetheless excellent video!
A draw was the correct decision for that fight.
tbh it is more likely wonderboy won the second one
Johnny Hendrick lost every fight after he hopped on the gear its simple enough...little boy needed to cheat.
Off*
Feeling justified after this video I always thought Condit won but I figured it was fan boy bias
Schevchenko won that shit!
48-47 valentina talia was busted up
Valentina won that fight for sure
Both of them
The overuse of the “achievement unlocked” sound effect ruined this video. Just some constructive criticism from a long-time fan of the channel.
2/3 judges scored rounds 2, 3, and 4 for Shevchenko, yet she lost. Math is weird.
This fried my brain mid-edit.
The video is about how fans disagree with the judges... You understand that right? It's about how FANS... DISAGREE... with the scorecards.

Decisions, score cards, and 10 point scoring system all need a change. More judges, a tiered scoring system, something needs to change.
Man NDA(nick diaz army) was a top team back in the day. Melendez was champ, shields champ and nick champ. That was a solid team. Still is but they're all older and retired now
