Anyone who fought Chael Sonnen deserves respect. They put their entire lives on the line. Too bad all of them suffered the same fate of being knocked out and submitted at the same time.

I think Jose Aldo deserved at least an honorable mention with how he's been performing since his loss to Yan.
Aldo was never threatened to be cut though. Every single one of his UFC losses (not including Moraes, which was a robbery) were against future champs

According to Blachowicz, the rope is a good luck charm that’s had “a 90 percent success rate since I started doing this.”
Blachowicz doesn’t say when he found the man, whom he encountered while walking his dog and initially mistook for alive. He said when he called authorities, a police officer on the scene asked if he took part of the rope used to hang the man.
“‘When you find a hanged man, you take his rope for luck,” Blachowicz remembers of the officer’s reaction. “‘That’s what people believed in the old days.’ I checked the internet, and sure enough, that is exactly what people thought and believed in. If you don’t believe me, check for yourself.”
“In the 1880s, it was apparently not unusual for Parisian medical students to sell bits of the rope that were still attached around the necks of suicides brought into the hospitals,” according to the paper “Executing Magic in the Modern Era: Criminal Bodies and the Gallows in Popular Medicine,” which was published by the National Center for Biotechnology Information. “One report tells of a piece given to a chemist’s assistant in Amiens, who then went on to win one hundred thousand francs in a lottery.”

How did you miss Matt Brown from this list?? debuting in 2008 and at one point was 1-4 losing all by subs but then went on to win 7 in a row and is still going strong now winning performance bonuses in his last two!!

Shit good for you becoming a big fan! I've been a big nerd since the Tito vs Shamrock days and on thing that has always been proven is anyone can win at anytime. Boxing like that to a degree but nothing like MMA just so many ways to win that it's just the most exciting a sport can be.

It's hard enough losing 4-5 times in 4-5 weeks in a row. But 4-5 times over 4-5 years n still being mentally strong enough to not only continue but turn it around. That's awesome.

I'm pretty stoked I've been a fan of Charles Oliveira since he fought and beat Efrain Escudero. Glad he won the title. Glad to see her also gives back to his people in Brazil
Back when Charles debuted in the UFC was when I was actually training bjj, so naturally I was captivated by his skillset. I haven't trained in years but I've liked Charles ever since his debut. I never thought he would become champion after his losses at FW. Watching him put it all together and improving his striking and becoming a champion to defend his belt against a guy everyone thought was the uncrowned champ was just incredible. Really is my favourite rise to the top in this sport's history.

This is why I haven't given up on Tony Ferguson. These are absolute warriors, people sitting in their bed pirating fight cards might give up on them, but they don't give up on themselves, that's what makes them more special than most of humankind.
Tony never was one of the best skilfully, he won simply on his toughness. And his toughness isn’t enough anymore, and his chin is no longer the same.
Tony is done, his time came and gone and we’re watching him walk into a BJ Penn type ending to his career with all of his fans keep trying to push him. Many people aren’t aware of the significance of brain damage, and they just remember who a fighter was. Everyone has their end. Chuck, Silva, Fedor etc.
Tony is done, I’m sorry. But this is reality and I’m praying he doesn’t get really hurt against Chandler.

He relied on his toughness on many ocassions i agree with that but his unique blend of non-stop moving, sick cardio, heart and top notch BJJ (at least for mma) was the receipt for his achievments. Without his other skills he would failed much earlier in his career. That Gaethje fight with all the damage he tooked over the years just was the end for him.

Another incredible comeback is the career of Matt Brown. After having been on a loosing streak Brown went on a tear and had a winning streak of something like 6-7 consecutive fights. He just lost again but it was close! His career should have been included here as well!!!

Tai actually did get cut from the UFC in August 2020. He got resigned to fight Struve to help fill out UFC 254. He's one of many fighters who's UFC careers were saved by the covid pandemic. MMA on point getting facts wrong like always.

Really thought that Colby would have been on here. Colby’s didn’t need to literally fight with knuckles to save his career (although his style did change), but he figuratively fought harder than anyone from what I can tell.

How tf did Charles Oliviera NOT get cut I knew he did most of that but just hearing it all at once chronologically makes it hit home. He didn’t even care back than how do you miss weight badly 5+ times plus go 2-5 in that time and not get cut??? Crazy. Alot of fighters get cut for waaay less.
