When you said that you liked "dodge based mechanics", I was totally expecting you to sneak a Delubrum or Castrum in the list. It's such a shame so many players don't even know there's another set of raids hidden in Bozja.
For me, it's 1. Orbonne, 2. Rhidornna, 3. Copied Factory. The EW raids have been soooo boring, mechanically we're all the way back to HW, aesthetically it's pretty underwhelming for the realm of the gods. I'm hoping the third one gives us a TG Cid level "go fuck yourselves" boss to spice this up, otherwise I'd say EW has my least favorite alliance series. Personally.
Not sure if anyone else in the comments mentioned it - I tried my best with ctrl+F - but during the segment on Construct 7 in Ridorana, I think you indicated that the HP math mechanic is only in this raid. It actually occurs in one other place. In Bozjan Southern Front, in the 3rd segment, there's also a math robot in a Critical Engagement. His twist is that the 4 "answer" circles that change your HP are on cardinals in a circular arena and you're given a "Forced March" mechanic before the answer, so you have to aim your forced march correctly to arrive in the circle that will solve the math. It was a super nice twist on the mechanic, but unfortunately that boss only does it once per run of the CE, even if you're practically soloing it and taking an eternity to kill it, after the first one he just loops his later mechanics from after the math part. Anyway, just thought I'd share. Nice video! P.S. additional thought - the buildings in the final fight of The Tower at Paradigm's Breach have an "SQE" on the corner of them if you look carefully. You can see it in your footage at 22:30, in the upper corner just above the boss' health bar on your HUD just before it rises up (the model flips for some reason once the movement starts). Yup, she's literally throwing Square-Enix office buildings at you.
I will always remember Tower at Paradigm’s breach due to a particular run where at the last boss all the tanks died and I had the displeasure of tanking it as a black mage until the tank buster killed me. Unrelated was a different run where I was in an alliance of 5 machinists, 2 sages, and a gun breaker tank.
You should've fought thunder god pre nerf. The mechanic where you need 3 to a circle, that was an auto wipe if 2 circles had 1 person missing in each. People would surrender as soon as Orbanne loaded, because of TG Cid. It was a wonderful time and i wish they'd unnerf him now.
It's refreshing to see a newer player's perspective on these. The 3.3 Weeping City experience was something else. People had to use PF for an alliance raid for the first time, as Omza would just destroy roulette groups. It got to the point where people were calling it "The Wiping City of Mhach". Rabanastre was also very spicy at launch because of Mateus. The damage she pumped out was very high and if any adds got spawned during the water ball phase it was basically a wipe. It also got a pet name in "Rabanasty".
Awesome list. I totally agree with your list except i prefer your 3rd than your 1st. Its nice to see your personal run with the raids while talking about the raids, as compared to just the usual tier list It was a nice watch for me👏👏👏👏
Great list👍You should definitely give FF12 (The Zodiac Age) a try, it's my favorite in the series. The elements they pulled from 12 for the raids will be recognizable very early on.
I wish I shared your love for the EW raids, I feel like they’re a regression on what the Sb/ShB ones bought as they’re both considerably shorter and less mechanically interesting, each boss (except for Nald’Thal, Halone and (kinda) Nophica) have only really 2 or 3 mechanics that are all very simple and doable with minimal effort past the first time seeing them.
This is fair, there is very little personal responsibility if any at all in the endwalker raids, this can def be a little disappointing. I think the scope and visuals are just perfect though. Also, the amount of greed you can get away with in the endwalker raids probably make them a lot more fun for me as a melee dps than any other role.
I think its a fair trade-off for just raid clear times. Otherwise you're stuck with the Nier ShB raids - they take forever to clear and just feel like a chore.
I do enjoy the new raids, but I can understand why some people might not... personal preferences and all. But they are absolutely a massive step up from the Nier raids (which were just a complete misstep imo). They feel like square pegs shoved into round holes. They're long, boring, repetitive, and completely immersion breaking. If I never see another damn magenta ball floating around it'll be too soon.
I love Aglaia too. First timers are confused as fuck, but once you get it, it's easy, BUT there are tons of opportunity to greed and optimise, which gives a nice way of skill expression im casual content, OR ways to trolls friends. I don't like that The Balance phase of Nald'Thal is skippable though. It's the whole theme, spectacle and center-piece of the fight, wish there was ilvl sync for that.
I'd put Orbonne over either of the EW raids, even though both Aglaia and Euphrosyne are very solid ones. I have to say that for repeatability the scale mechanic is one of the biggest turnoffs for me and made me enjoy Aglaia as a whole less that I could, because other than that I don't have much else bad so say of it. Also to this day I've only been able to skip the scales once. A visual spectacle for the first few times, but I don't care to see it again any time soon. Orbonne is a fun one since the first few times I did it, I constantly fumbled some of the mechanics and always got scared when it popped from roulette. But with repeats and becoming a better player over time, it slowly became one of my favorite alliance raids. Really hard to actually pick #1, but I wouldn't mind if it's Orbonne Monastery.
Can't say that I like the Storm Blood alliance raids at all. I've never dropped out of a roulette after seeing what I got, but if I ever did it would be for the Storm Blood Alliance raids. All of them are super long and tedious.
I'd say Ridorana and Orbonne Monastery are definitely tedious. Rabanastre however anytime I've gotten the group seems to move pretty quickly the only real issues are the 1st and second bosses, Rofocale and Argath are pretty quick to take down provided no one dies to his unusual cleaves
2:00 Labyrinth of the Ancients, the Atmos-adds. You always have those adhd-players who can`t just stay on that pissing platform and the fact that if you get locked out of the arena and get force teleported in you always land in the room all the way at the top which can, if you are unlucky enough lead to having only 3 people in one room which wipes the whole alliance
ONLY think i enjoy about Orbornne is that it LEGIT feels likes Mario Party sometimes. Like the buffs from the virgo's at the final stretch means being greedy is activly hurting the team. The maze is goofy and fun. Thundergod spitting hot fire at you with some of the BEST lines and voice acting.
The add phase thing I'm pretty sure they rotate combat designers seniors (like the infamous mister ozma) and they put what they like without thinking too much about it.
The SB alliance raids give me ptsd. I had to heal through these and the amount of stress I gained from these places had me eternally sobbing. Not to mention I had a friend tell me doing them was MANDATORY to do other content. Which was a lie, they just wanted me to suffer T-T
For the Second boss of Rabanastre Hashmal, I like how you say "We do so much damage, we barely see anything" dear baby puppy Have you ever seen, a low damage Alliance raid? Of Rabanastre? Because, no joke, that second boss, makes very often half the whole alliance quit when the mechanic happens. -3 Sands orbs during the large middle tower, each alliance should kill theirs. If 2 go boom its a wipe. -People unable to understand the Swipe across the arena, killing often 5-10 people each. -At one point the arena gets divided into 3 sections (One for each alliance is the best world), each having a Sand orbs that must be killed. 1 exploding can be survived with shields, but 2 its a wipe. -After that mechanic, golems shows. Sadly most people will ignore or just not be aware of their existence, meaning they'll grow BIG and STRONK! When left to stage 3-4 of growth, they can one-shot some people if both are alive. If I'm caster at this point, I pop that LB for us to live or else often seen wipes. -In short; Yes, great boss, usually go super smooth. BUT when have many new players/first-timers/Low damage- It's gonna get rough :') - - If I may add my opinion about Agalia; I personally dislike Agalia quite a bit upon many re-run of it. One a first run of the Alliance raid: EASY, AMAZING raid. Spectacle is fantastic, like you said when see some mechanics the first time it can be hard to figure or getting used to it. It's an amazing first time experience. But, imo, after many runs of it I'm noticing, mechanicly a lot of weakness in them. -Byregot: when the hamemr hit the arena, middle is always safe, the lightning hammer you always stand in it, there's no mechanic. So the only thing left is him doing 2 knockback, once with some cleaves and him doing exaflares, some slow and fast, very simple. -Rhalgr: If you've never test it, his meteor aois actually don't hurt that much. when the HUGE one fall, a BLM with manaward could keep not moving and live easily with 50%+ of their health. A tank honeslty doesn't need to move. You can just ignores his mechanic. If good enough too, can just time and ignore all knockback (tho that can be fun to get better at), point is that's the only interesting thing about it, the knockbacks -Azeyma: honestly, Azeyma is an amazing boss, can't lie, she's fantastic. -Nald and Thal: I just find them incredebly boring. I've also NEVER seen adds being skip, close, but never happen. I've ran this alliance at least 45 times (based off the coins I have). I've ever only found the boss interesting while I ran the alliance on BLM since having to time and perp movement for some mechanic is harder. Otherwise it's just look at the color of the arena and don't stand in the aoi on the ground. -The adds are nice, the falcon is pretty neat, but the tiger are really boring like any trash mobs. They do the same thing the whole thing and even getting hit doesn't damage you that much. --If I may compare this to the Euphrosyne adds, which yes are just boring adds compacted into each other; those imo are more fun, cause there's so much trash, there's a huge amount of line, circles, donuts aois being everywhere making it super Chaotic. I find that way more fun. Plus thos Ice knights adds before Halone hurts A LOTS if a tank pull them all too quickly. I have almost seen wipes to them from the damage they can deal. But ye, that was my smol Endwalker alliance raid rant, great video as always! Opinions varies and I did not want to express yours is wrong! Per exemple when you talk about the passing of the raids I agree some can feel like it takes too long and reduce the fun. :)
Now that you mention it, I’ve definitely had some very scuffed hashmal runs in the past. Especially when I was new to the game. You make a good point with the euphrosyne adds before halone, those ones are actually pretty fun because of how many aoes they shoot out. I think a lot of my enjoyment from Aglaia also comes down to how much greed you can get away with as a melee dps, and the ability to skip scales makes it all the more rewarding. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, it’s nice to see some different perspective on these things. Feels like there’s never much discussion around the 24 man’s.
Orbonne Monastery was hell when it was new especially TG Cid. It's almost certain to get atleast once raid wipe there. the Shadow Blade especially if 2 people doesn't stand correctly it will be a bane to all except tanks and if we survived, the next mechanic the DPS check with ice adds also a raid wipe easily because we're still on barely reviving the deads. This along with the TP Bar was still a thing that time, DPS deads sometime means can't do their DPS correctly cuz they ran out of TP after revivef, also Tank Stance dance to min max the DPS. Ultima was much much easier than TG Cid. And if I ranked the 24 man raids myself, my top 3 would be Orbonne, Puppets Bunker, and Rabanastre. I love SB raids so much as I'm an FFT fans and I played XII myself and got all the references. the recent EW raids is a pretty spectacles, I adores it too, but I wish I could expect some difficulty like I experienced with TG Cid when it was Fresh but alas.
You're funny. The Nier raids are easily the worst of the whole lot (except maybe LotA). Long, boring, repetitive, and completely immersion breaking. Heck, Tower even has a mini boss that 100% copy-pastes the first boss's mech from earlier in the same raid. What's the point? The only ppl that like the Nier raids are ppl who like the Nier game series and don't mind a heavy future-earth scifi plot getting shoved forcibly into a high fantasy setting where it's jarring and completely out of place.
Can't say I share the love of Orbonne, it's my personal least favorite AR. Obnoxious mechanics and runs become tedious way too fast. All but 2 runs of it that I've done have been complete wipefests and I don't play AR's to have my time wasted, I just leave it and take the penalty if I get it in roulette. My top 3 though are both EW raids and either Ridorana or Mhach; it would be Puppets Bunker but the HP bloat on those bosses is absolutely obnoxious
I always leave when i get Tower Of Padagrim in my roulette, despise that place. Orbonne is probably my favourite. Aglaia & Euphrosyne are awesome i just wish they were more challenging in comparison to their pretty amazing visuals. Sometimes it feels like the bosses just dont do a whole lot. Cant wait to see Thaliak in the 3rd one
Orbonne Monastery The Copied Factory The Ridorana Lighthouse Royal City of Rabanastre Aglaia Puppets Bunker Euphrosine Tower at Paradigms Reach The Weeping City of Mhahch Dun Scaith World of Darkness Void Arc Labyrinth of Ancients Syrcus Tower
I have negative experiences with the Orbonne Monastery because multiple times I've had groups just quit at Thunder God. Any time I see that shit, I just take the 30 minute penalty or hope someone else bones out. Fuck that place.
I'm just not a fan of the Stormblood raids, even as a fan of FFT the nostalgia fell flat for me. I personally found the visuals kinda boring like a generic ruin dungeon. I honestly dont get why people like Aglaia so much, i find it too easy and the 1st boss has cool mechs on paper but they do nothing, second you could fall off but too easy for that, 3rd has alot of mechanics but very generic and final boss is ok. Orbonne for me any day and then Dun Scaith and 3rd to the Lighthouse
I love your list my top 3 are #1 Aglai however you spell it #2 Orbonne Monastery #3 Dun scaith #3 could have been euprohysin but I don’t like the final section that much basically just making everything one color and texture has never interested me that’s why I never like snow levels really everything looks the same 💀
To be fair, in puppets bunker adds pull if you group them all as 1 rather than split them into alliances it goes so much quicker, even without having to caster LB them which makes it even faster and turns it into a 1 min encounter
When you said that you liked "dodge based mechanics", I was totally expecting you to sneak a Delubrum or Castrum in the list. It's such a shame so many players don't even know there's another set of raids hidden in Bozja.
