    Hi there! I have been speed puzzling for a year now and I am now starting to see some progress. It is not easy, but practicing is important if you want to get better. Also the images you pick are not easy, so you should be proud of doing them in one sitting. Congratulations!

      Totally agree. You are doing great. A bit tricky puzzles, fresh puzzler, honestly these times are pretty okay. My best time was the London postcard, not my favourite to do, but my fastest.

    If your new to puzzling I would definitely do a lot just for fun till you get the hang of it no need to frustrate yourself. I have been puzzling off /on for over 60 years . Yep I'm that old. The GOT puzzle looks really challenging. I finished my first 3,000pc Clementoni this year . The quality was really good.

    I'm really enjoying your journey into puzzling. Looking forward to seeing how you progress. I actually feel like getting some 500 piece puzzles myself.

      "Rig Views" is my favorite 500 piece Ravensburger puzzle (they also have it in a 1000 piece version).

      It's fun so far. And even if you don't go super fast, it is still fun to just complete a puzzle in the same day. It's a different experience

    I can't wait to see the GOT puzzle! As for speed puzzling as to not get too overwhelmed, Ravensburger has some 200 and 300 puzzles in their puzzle moments line with standard size pieces. I started with these and worked my way up to 500 piece puzzles. I'm not speedy by any means as I average about 2 hrs for a 500 piece. My goal is to get under the 90 min mark. Another thing that has helped me is finding another person in my area that speed puzzles and we have joined pairs competitions. It takes a bit of the pressure off being solo while also pushing you to go faster (if that makes sense). Keep it up. It takes time and practice.

    You clearly love very difficult puzzles. Both 500 piece puzzles had very difficult images. There is no way that I would have purchased that GOT puzzle. It has way too many black pieces. You could maybe buy some of the puzzles from the USA National speed puzzling competition (can be found at Ravenburger). Great video! I loved the talking over the time lapse.

      Yeah I have 2 coming soon. The London postcard and the floral one. Both were used in the recent world championship. Can't wait to see how I do on these 2!!

    Also working up to a 1000 piece as I practice 🧩 speed puzzling is definitely harder than it looks 😅 good luck with your next puzzle those dark areas look interesting!

      @JigsawJohnie  Місяць тому +1

      Yes!! Much harder than it looks I saw all these puzzlers do a Circle of Colors in under an hour. Then I tried and it took more than 4 hours. That's when I realized I have a lot of work to do haha

    Im really focused on speed puzzling this month because i signed up for a contest in May. I am doing a puzzle a day in order to train. I have been trying out different strategies, and have found that taking a little more time at the begining to get to know the different colors and textures of the pieces, and doing a rough sort into piles, to give me more space to work, is the best strategy for me. I also try not to get too focused on details and look at the overall pattern of a piece to figure out where it goes. Previously, my times were in the 2.5-3.5 hour range, but now i am consistently doing just under or just over 2 hours. My brain also no longer gets tired half way through the puzzle. You might find it helpful to do 300 piece puzzles to try out different strategies. Buffalo games has a huge selection, and they are cheaper than Ravensburger.

      Is it gonna be your first contest? Thanks for the tips, I hear often now that different strategies work better for different people and I should try more to see what I like and to get better at it too. Thanks for the comment!

    You’ll get faster just by puzzling more, not even by trying to speed run! I did a 500 last year, did 30 or so since, and then redid it this year… and i beat my time by 50 mins! So i’m sure you’ll see some improvement over time :)

    I discovered speed puzzling online a few months ago and like you, got all enthusiastic and ambitious. And… I’m terribly slow.
    So I still want to try it but I’m not thinking I can be ready for Spain (even just to finish in the time limit) this year after all. So I’m trying to practice without pressure for now.

    Also learn to flip and sort by colors and sections...... then move onto the speed. Sorting is the main part of speed puzzling. 🎉

    You need to ask yourself, are you speed puzzling because you wish to join competitions or just for your own interest. I think a lot of how fast you get a puzzle done depends on what method you choose to do. I noticed that you seem to have a fair quantity of pieces inside the puzzle. If you have too many pieces inside the puzzle it will get difficult to see what you are doing. Consider shape sorting when you get towards the end of a puzzle. Depending on the image, colour sorting is often a good approach. I sometimes use the look and place method whereby I pick a piece, look to see where it is on the image and put in the relevant spot. My times vary considerably, one Circle of Colors took me 3 hrs 38 mins, Life is a Garden took me 1 hr 33 mins, both are 500 pieces. Above all enjoy doing puzzles.

    • @JigsawJohnie
      @JigsawJohnie  Місяць тому

      Yeah I did ask myself already. I really just want to experience it, doing a puzzle in one go and do it multiple times to see where it goes. See if I get faster with time. No precise goal, just want to have fun with it!

    You need to do some easier puzzles. These are harder to do puzzles in regular time let alone speed!! That's why you see this brand for tournaments. I like to see your efforts though, as I only puzzle for fun and speed puzzling would create pressure and anxiety. I would likely just lose total interest in puzzling. So give it a little longer with some easier images and build up your confidence would be my advice as lifetime puzzler since I was a kid...

    i think, i am not made for speed puzzeling, but the truth is, most competitors puzzle for their whole life, I do it since a month or two. And I am 55, I believe younger persons can concentrate longer and think quicker especially when their are well trained. You puzzles were very difficult, why don’t you pick easier ones?

    • @JigsawJohnie
      @JigsawJohnie  Місяць тому +1

      You are right about that, I am also new to this. Just having fun and trying stuff! About the puzzle choices: Honestly, I just looked at Ravensburger and 500 pieces and I just picked up a bunch of them without really thinking how easy or hard they would be. maybe next time I'll go for easier ones?
