You did great! It's an achievement in itself to be able to focus for long enough to complete a puzzle in one sitting. Also, this is why I can never have a cat 😂

I stumbled over Karen Puzzels' review of the 2023 championship and thought: "That can't be so hard... it's just a jigsaw puzzle. How big of a difference can there be between them an the championship and me?" -- So, i bought one of the puzzles (the New York postcard one) and gave it a try. I needed THREE HOURS and one minute. The 30 to 40 minutes they reach at the championship are INCREDIBLY fast. I think your finishing times (90 minutes and 107 minutes) are very fast, considering that you didn't do any training für it. Maybe, with a bit of training, you COULD compete at the championship!

We can't all be speed puzzlers but you got decent times on those puzzles. I only do 1000 piece ones now, I use a calendar to time those not a timer 😂

I will be 78 in May, so 'back at ya'!
The love your cat has for you is beautiful! Go, Juno!
Now, for the puzzle. I love watching Karen and am a great fan. However, I like opening a puzzle, spreading out the pieces, doing the edges, filling it in...on my own time. I, also, like doing other things and seeing the unfinished puzzle sitting there, knowing it is patiently waiting for me to return and not nagging an old lady.
I remember when I saw the first all red round puzzle during the Andy Warhol days and buying it right away and doing it. Plus meeting him for a few minutes at the 1966 First Mod Wedding at the Michigan State Fairgrounds. (Not during the fair, they used the various bldgs for concerts and other shows the rest of the year.)
So, yeah, I'm old (and slow) but I saw the best bands!

No clue why UA-cam is randomly suggesting puzzle videos to me at 3 am but thank you for this genuinely wholesome content 🥰 also the fact you were so prepared for the kitty snuggles was the cutest. Hope you and your nephew have fun jigsaw puzzling :)

For me, assembling puzzles is all about the journey along the way, not how fast I get there. I loved seeing you stop to pet your kitty. In my opinion, that was more important and meaningful than completing a puzzle in 90 minutes or less.

Cat? Puzzles? Cat? Puzzles....Cat! So funny. All my cats are gone, but I understand. Love that you took time for kitty! You are much faster than me....and I don't mind. Puzzles are something I do to relax and make the world go away. I'll never be fast and so it goes.

Less than 50 from 80 did finish this puzzle under 90 minutes. The world championship (WJPC) in not only for the very fast puzzlers. You can see it as a puzzle convention to meet people with the same hobby, and the competitions are the side program. I would not be surprised if you were enjoying the event - even as a medium-fast puzzler!

Being old and bored as well, I’ve pretty much followed your line of thinking and have this puzzle-in-waiting for a day I feel up to the challenge. Meanwhile, my cat practices pouncing on my table daily, so I know she’s ready. Thanks for a fun video.

I was there at World Jigsaw Puzzle Championship in September 2023 even though I had NEVER done a 500 piece jigsaw puzzle in under 90 minutes (on the first try)! 😄 My best result at the time was 1 h 39 min. I didn't know it beforehand, but you actually CAN get into semifinals even if you don't finish the puzzle in time. 🙂 And if you had paused the timer at 90 minutes and counted the leftover pieces and compared your result to the list on the website, you would have noticed that you're not the last. ❤️ I am mainly competing against myself (with myself, as a team, if that makes sense). But this is a kind of madness and I'd recommend this hobby only if you genuinely love to try to do puzzles as fast as possible... 😄

  • @Laserstormelpies

2 seconds into the video and I already knew that that chair is a cat-owner :'D
An idea could be to bring Juno to Spain too, but instead of letting the cat distract you, you send it over to the others to distract them. In the end, if no one finished, the piece-count matters. You've got close to a year to teach that cat how to go ham between like 100 different people. (although we all know how willing cats are to learn anything besides eating ^^)
This video showed up in my recommended and I was surprised by the video quality and you mentioning another content creator I follow. I will stick around for some time and see what else you will put out. :)

Cuando ellos se acuestan en las cajas, nos dejan tranquilos para continuar, excepto si aún tenemos piezas en las cajas 😂. Éxito! Me gustó tú contenido y me identifico contigo 😊

I'm a bit late to the party but I enjoyed seeing you put this jigsaw together. Loved the fact that you were happy to pause for some cat snuggling time. 😺 Floral Reflections is not as easy as it looks is it! It's one I did myself last year and would have taken me more than 90 minutes. I'm more of a snail 🐌when it comes to puzzles. I certainly can't sit down and keep going until the puzzle is completed, I have to take breaks.

Cats and jigsaws. Two of my favourite things. I never complete a jigsaw in one sitting, so always have a second board that I clip on top to stop pieces mysteriously disappearing and being found later - with bite marks.

before I started watching youtube puzzle channels I never imagined there would be competitions for speed (might as well have competitions for speed yoga or speed meditation--and no, I'm not going to google those, they probably exist). like your nephew, speed puzzling is completely antithetical to the enjoyment I get from puzzles.

Must admit, I'm getting tired of every puzzle video being about speed puzzling :D I like to listen to a book while I puzzle, for me its about relaxing and enjoying the puzzle experience. I can be quite fast, although I'm no Alehandro, but so few of us are :D I do really enjoy watching the competition in Spain, although this year I hated most of the puzzles, and thats another issue! If I dislike the picture, then I'm not going to do the puzzle :D

    • @PuzzleThis_PL

I think it all depends on your current idea of specific puzzle - sometimes you wanna try yourself being Speedy Gonzalez 😉 and sometimes you just relax and quiet yourself and relax while puzzling - Santa brpught me 13500 pcs puzzle (it's 9x 1500 as postcards) and xan't imagine doing it as a speed run - rather relaxing with music at the background, using the sorter and calmly doing it till the end 😁

    • @Fiobo823
      @Fiobo823 7 місяців тому +1

@@PuzzleThis_PL Thing is, I don't need that pressure on me with something that is meant to be enjoyable :D Have you noticed how stressed and exhausted a lot of the competitors looked after one of the events???? Can't be good for your blood pressure! My ex's mother loves puzzles and always has one on the go. So often when there's a group of us we all pitch in. Eventually she told me I wasn't allowed to anymore, as I made everyone speed up and it turned into a race, lol And I wasn't trying to go fast!!! I have a good eye, is all. So now when I see her, and we all start puzzling, I'm careful to take breaks and walk away a lot :D And she always ropes me in to sort out difficult bits if she gets stuck :D I got a timer for Christmas as I did think about having a go, but honestly, I haven't yet, and dont know if I'll ever get round to it :D I get enough stress at work :D

"Bored`is what you make of yourself; if you don't WANT to change that, then you can't. "Old" is just how you view yourself; every day you can decide you're not really old. Speed puzzling, is just a way to learn if you're too bored to do something to keep yourself young. Try those two puzzles again. You've set personal best times for both; now beat those times.

Hello from Canada!! You might be bored but this video certainly wasn't boring!! I also understand about the cat interruptions, and about the need for a foam board (will definately steal that idea) because I think I might have a couple puzzle pieces way back there under the fridge where even the broom can't reach. Thanks for a very enjoyable video and good luck to Karen at the 2024 National Jigsaw Puzzle competition in San Diego this weekend.

Well, if puzzling is your thing, and you have a camera, you might want to look into the Puzzle Olympics. But I don't think you are all that bad, speed-wise: Check Karen Puzzles for a case where nearly all participants finished within the time limit, then get that one to compete against. That ill give you a more honest ranking..

Ok so I picked up Evening in Pisa and it took me just over 4 hrs. Granted I haven’t done a puzzle in over 4 decades. In about 10 tries I’ve made it down to 1:44 on that puzzle but still much to learn on how to get faster. Also I saw a competition in Australia that had 2 hr limit for 500 piece. You could make that and probably pick up some pointers there as well. My mackerel tabby gets shooed off when he tries stunts like that lol.
