    By far this was the most interesting collaboration!! so fun to see how differently you and Donnalouise tackle the puzzle... fun indeed!! I also have and love Colin Thomson puzzles,, yes so detailed and fun... I have not tackled over 1000.. and do not intend to...I do them almost the way you do...... I say bravo to you both doing this 5000 piece count.... cant wait for volume 2.......

    Hi Vicky, thanks for mentioning me 🤩 in that wee clip re Bilby. Had a puzzle-thon at ours tonight as you do with mates a meal and some puzzles and… your video. You’ll be getting some fans from Oz soon👍. We had a lovely evening as we always do with loads of laughs and giggles. We got through three 500 piece puzzle sets. It’s a great hobby to have👍.

    Hi Vicky - not to do with this puzzle but I picked up my 13,500 piece Trefl Cities Beyond the Clouds from delivery hub today and I have to return it. Amazon box ripped down all four sides, 6 of the 9 bags of pieces were open so most of the puzzle pieces were just lying loose in the bottom of the puzzle box. Seriously I don't know why they can't package properly and take care of something that cost almost $200 here. Hopefully they will do better with this Bizarre Town which is arriving tomorrow.

    • @Vickymakesandbuilds
      @Vickymakesandbuilds  6 місяців тому

      Oh my gosh!! That’s awful!! I’m so sorry you had that experience! I know, the packaging sometimes is so shoddy! My Wildlife was so battered when it arrived. As you say, you’d think they’d actually do it properly and take care of the products, especially given how expensive they can be! I hope it all gets sorted out for you in the end xx

    • @heather6668
      @heather6668 6 місяців тому

      @@Vickymakesandbuilds I actually went to pick up my Wildlife because I saw that you had trouble with the crate being damaged. I bought mine at a puzzle store at the markets here and got a cab home with it. My bizarre town seems to be missing an edge piece - only sat at the dining table to sort and I've been through the box looking at each piece 3 times now and still haven't found it - but at least they are going to replace it. Really enjoyed your video on that one and wanted to get stuck in - oh well - guess I'll have to wait another couple of days.

      @@Vickymakesandbuilds I had sorted mostly and done the border (except for one piece I couldn't find), did the blue part with the pink/yellow border above the lake, did the top right corner and the red dresser, some of the left side brickwork, then did a piece count because I still hadn't found the edge piece - 5039, so I tipped back in box and counted again - 5039 - sat at dining table to sort and work and definitely didn't drop any, so I will definitely have to get a replacement from Amazon. At least they do that. Couple of peeling and bent pieces but not so bad that I'd send it back. I wish quality control was what it used to be -

    I LOVED the method that you tackled this puzzle. Also, I really, really enjoyed the side-by-side images (poster area vs. puzzle area built); I paused each shot to enjoy them more.! Keep doing that on your videos!
    I also liked that you pointed out certain things from the puzzle, including an interesting detail of the artist(logo).

    This was a pleasant surprise! I was considering this when I was looking for a 5/6k puzzle, so I'm glad to hear what you think of it. I went with Clementoni's Pirate Battle instead, and I think i made the right choice. I love the little details, but it gets very busy on a puzzle that size.

    Well your method and DonnaLouise's are quite different but you will both end up with the finished jigsaw. When there are colours dotted around the puzzle it can be hard to work out where they are going. I have done a few of Colin Thompson's puzzles and found them tricky to do. I did enjoy doing Flying Home as I liked the balloon in it. Look forward to seeing the second part.

      This is true! At the end of the day we will both finish it - I love seeing Donnalouise’s come together in time lapse - it just emerges from the chaos, I’m looking forward to part 2! 😍

    Hi Vicky - love the video - it will help me greatly when I open mine out to do. I have looked at both your video and the one from Donnalouise and although your methods are very different they both have merit for this puzzle. I kind of think I will probably do mine your way as it looks more complete in the sections you have done that the pick and place method. I would like to try the where's waldo method but maybe with a smaller puzzle.

      Hiya! Thank you - I’m glad you love the videos - it’s been so fun collaborating on this one 😍. I agree that both methods work well for the image - I also loved Donnalouise’s treasure hunt analogy - it’s so true as there is so much to find in this puzzle. (I also love how you call it the Where’s Waldo method! 😆). I hope my method does help you, and I too will attempt the pick and place on a smaller puzzle too!

      It’s a good idea to take your path to larger puzzles in steps, try a 2, then a 3, then maybe a 4k etc. The jump doesn’t seem quite so big and overwhelming then ☺️

    Hi Vicky. I put this one together in Jan '18. I asked my sister to get it for me for Christmas of 2017. I didn't use my grid method on this one because it has so many different scenes in it. It didn't take as long to assemble as the 5000 piece Artistic Mickey I did recently. I had to check to see if my Bizarre town was 5000 pieces, which it is. Have fun doing it.

    The little critter with long ears in his puzzles is in memory of his dog Max who was “half whippet/half mystery” according to Colin Thompson’s website. That is why there is a “Cafe Max” (sometimes more than one) in many of his puzzles. Unfortunately I am getting an error when I try to access his site today which I will hope means it is being updated not that he lost the domain name. I can still find the info on a trace of his site when I search “Colin Thompson whippet” though. I loved his website and it had interesting info on his life and the books he had published though the info seemed a few years old. He mentions getting a full whippet he named Max 2 on his site as well.

    • @Vickymakesandbuilds
      @Vickymakesandbuilds  6 місяців тому

      Aaah! I wondered why the name Max kept coming up! There is more than one Cafe Max definitely!
      I have experienced the same thing with his website, I was on it not that long ago, and when I tried again later, it wasn’t available. Some of the details were a bit out of date though, so as you say, maybe it is being updated 🤷🏻‍♀️

    I used this method of sorting on Karen Puzzle's 3000 piece "Puzzles on Puzzles." Sorting every piece into different piles gives me "decision fatigue" and the reality is you don't really know the best way to sort until you have worked on the puzzle for awhile. For smaller puzzles like 500/1000, I like to do a full flip of all the pieces and then pick the pieces for different piles.

    • @Vickymakesandbuilds
      @Vickymakesandbuilds  6 місяців тому +1

      I don’t really know how I will sort or build until I’ve started sorting pieces. I usually have a miscellaneous pile, but honestly it’s unusual for me to sort in phases like this - ordinarily I do it all at the beginning.
      For 500 pieces I will full flip, but I do that less on 1k puzzles, instead preferring to shuffle in the box - unless it’s a very difficult puzzle, then I’ll sort 😆
      I think it’s really interesting how we all use different methods of assembly, it’s good to try different ones, but also just to enjoy as much as you can 👌

    Who gave you the puzzle? Family? Friend? What a horrible gift to be given a huge jigsaw puzzle because you probably cannot tell the person that you hate the puzzle that they picked. Yeah, I would much rather do the Ravensburger 5000 piece Pokemon puzzle than this one. At some point, I would have laid out all the pieces on multiple 20x30 inch foam boards so I could see all the pieces at once. I would rather go searching for the piece(s) that I want, than see a piece and ask where it goes (i.e. the Where's Waldo method)

      I was gifted this puzzle by a close friend. He and I both collect large piece count puzzles and he knew that this was one on my wish list. It was definitely not a random choice - I was so happy to receive it. He also knows my taste in puzzles generally, so it is highly unlikely he’d have given me one I hate.
      I could see it being a double edged sword for someone who was not expecting it or necessarily wanting it though 🤣
      I love that name for it - the Where’s Waldo method 😁
      It’s not a method I use really, but in this puzzle I can see how it would be a fun thing to do - like Donnalouise said, there is so much to discover in this image that it becomes like a puzzle treasure hunt.
