Oleana’s name is based on the Oleander flower, which embodies love and loyalty. This is evident in two things; her willingness to fight for her beloved Chairman Rose who helped her out of poverty and, Her ace being a Garbodor, her first ever partner since she was poor. She still uses it despite it sticking out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of her seemingly “beautiful” team.
Her backstory is really sad. She had nothing and was living poor with her trubbish. Then she became the right hand assistant of the most powerful man in galar (not anymore tho lol). But I wanted more plot to her

I've listened to all of the 5 remixes of her theme on YT and have come to the conclusion that Oleana's theme is perfect and cannot be made better in any way. These are facts of life.
Both her and the Chairman... Such great potentials for characters squandered and rushed out the door before having enough time to fully develop. It might be a bit dark for a Pokemon game, but if they'd had more time to flesh Oleana out I can kind of picture her being a more forceful presence in 'railroading' the player along the quest. Getting more irritated the more you keep trying to deviate from it. And by the time you reach her encounter she's going as far as threatening to throw you off the tower. ...That'd imply that they cared about making a fun compelling story though. Can't have that, can we?
How does this game not have a "fun and compelling story" when it's got more story and character development than at least 5 of the previous 7 generations? Gens 5 and 7 are the only other gens to actually try to do anything besides "generic evil team that wants to change/take over the world by force", have gym leaders do more than just sit in their room, and develop the rivals to have goals and motivations beyond just trying to beat you in random duels. Oleana herself gets a lot more screen time than most team admins too, and has several notable traits that you learn through each of her encounters. She's also one of the few trainers in the entire franchise who's party adds details about their backstory while also showing off facets of their personality. Can you recall much of anything about the Rocket admins? Aqua/Magma admins? Galactic admins? Flare's rainbow visor girl squad? Can you even recall if any of them they had signature Pokemon or a theme beyond just being mono-type? It's totally fine to not like Sword/Shield, but it's pretty disingenuous to downplay its story and characters when it does more to develop those things than the majority of the past games.

Character development is more ambiguous, as past gens have been doing it for a while, but mostly off-screen (Blue grows along with you, Silver learns to care for his pokemon, Wally overcomes his sickness and weakness, etc.); this one does it more in your face, which is not inherently better, but is not bad. At the moment, the evil teams that have wanted to take over the world have been Rocket, Plasma, Neo Team Plasma, and to some extent Galactic (what Cyrus wanted to do was create a new universe in which he would rule, he wanted to start from scratch; essentially the same thing, but fundamentally different). And the teams that have wanted to change the world have been Magma/Aqua, Flare (kinda, it is just too vague what they wanted to do), Aether Foundation, and Chairman Rose (was going to use Eternatus power to supply Galar with energy, because it was going to lose it in... a thousand years). Literally no evil team has been different to what you mentioned; and Chairman Rose ideals and goals are even more stupid than those of team magma or Aqua. Gym leaders have started to have more interactions outside their gyms since gen 4 (Maylene and Candice are friends, Fantina participates in contests and likes the outdoors, Jasmine was visiting Sinnoh, etc.); in ORAS you can also find gym leaders outside of their gyms (like Roxanne being in the fossil maniac cave in Rustboro demanding him to give her some fossils). Plenty of characters have pokemon that talk about their backstories. In almost every character the pokemons they use is a reflection of their personalities. Fantina uses drifblim because she is a dreamer that likes travelling and seeing the world; Erika uses vileplume and bellossom because she is a *cough* pot smoker *cough* herbalist; Burgh uses leavanny because he likes fashion; Silver uses crobat because he actually cares for his pokemon (golbat can only evolve in crobat through friendship), etc. Lyssandre also is a lot like Oleanna's garbodor, his main is gyarados, which he mega-evolves, changing his type from water/flying to water/dark; indicating how his actions are hell disguised as heaven. If you are basing the value of a character on how much a person can memorize it, there is a problem in your metric. I have a good memory, so I remember plenty of things from even boring characters. Not only that, everybody remembers Whiney's infamous miltank not because of how much development she got, or because of how miltank ties to Whitney, but rather because she caught off guard plenty of people decimating their entire teams. It's totally fine to like Sw/Sh, but it's pretty disingenuous to downplay the story and characters of past games to elevate Sw/Sh's story and characters when they are the same thing.
At least this isn't Trubbish compared to Oleana's time on-screen in the games. Also, I suggest you remix something from the DLC packs when they come out.

Spoilers below: Basically, Oleana was portrayed to be the original professor who made the Dynamax bands and used to be a colleague with Mangolia.
That would’ve been cool, maybe a little cliché, but cool. Before I played the game, I knew that Rose was the bad guy, and that Oleana was his assistant that stayed cool most of the time. But, it was a little surprising to see her fly off the handle towards the end. She definitely should’ve been in the game more. Hopefully (but probably not), she’ll be in future games.

how come we cant play as an adult? i would like a class system were you start off as a regular battle trainer and you can them become a fishermen, gym leader, swimmer, champion, and those other classes. id make a gym of dragon, and fairy types, or have a team that has no specific type and call my gym the style matters gym where your team is the focus and based on your team the gym leader customizes their team to combat the challengers
