Oh yeah. I also love how combined with his hat it makes him look like a king, which is honestly pretty fitting given the region's inspiration.
I think the reason Leon was able to remain undefeated for so long is because of his will to change his team and adapt new strategies, even switching out his team to be more balanced around the Galar starter he trains. This becomes especially apparent in the Battle Tower when he uses different strategies and movesets even for the same Pokemon.
In addition, you can't forget that he became Champion as a kid, which makes him a former protagonist. What was implied with the likes of Cynthia is outright confirmed for him. He's had time to continue adapting his team, much like we do after we beat our games.
In the anime, he says the reason he's undefeated is because he learns from every battle. Always growing, always adapting. He's always looking for a way to improve.

Shoutout to Leon, the only person in the entire game to actually wipe me out... once. Beat his ass after that, but he was the first and only one to actually force me to start thinking instead of just braindead snipe-shot 1HKOing everything.
Props to you, Leon.
Can we just talk about how Leon was probably the most responsible champion in any Pokémon game?

They talk about all the irony of how 10 year olds are saving the world and getting into dangerous situations while the adults do nothing or simply make things worse (like Lance for example, solar beam) but with Leon, OH NO, A CHAMPION WHOS ARGUABLY AN ADULT (probably only 17 or 18 as he’s Champion) IS TAKING ALL THE FUN!!! Like- we still end up being the ones to save the day but Leon at least stays and tries to help the best ways he could.
Plus he reminds me of players who have been playing the games since the beginning, hence why his theme feels so nostalgic to me, especially with the bits of 8-bit track in his theme. It’s like passing the torch to a new generation of players
@@gabrielryan-leon832 It's basically a catch 22. If Leon sorts out the problems, then everyone complains the game is too handholdy and they want to sort the problems themselves. If he doesn't sort them out, people will laugh about the irony of the "unbeatable" champion not sorting out every problem.

This is a very interesting thread. It honestly demonstrates a lot of the tension in Pokémon between making a sensible story and serving the best interests of gameplay.

I completely agree. He always sent it out immediately after his Aegislash and swept me twice! Only reason he didn’t get a third sweep was because I taught my Orbeetle Mirror Coat to counter it and he still nearly thwarted my plan when my Orbeetle barely survived a shadow ball with only 4 HP left!
Leon's theme being a hall of fame remix I think was a good idea. The hall of fame normally reminds me of all the things I had done on a play through, and being reminded of all that stuff during the battle against Leon was really nice
in his actual theme you can hear the hall of fame theme. it is not something they did it is in the actual theme witch i think is pretty cool that they did that while composing leon's theme
It's funnier when you bring Eternatus. He even remarks on you carrying it with you, and as it hard counters his entire team, the theme is a fitting way to say that you've already won.
This makes justice to the end of a journey. :')

Honestly, this was one of the hardest battles in sword and shield, in my opinion
I was incredibly unprepared. Actually had to grind a bit.
Went in about 10 levels below his first pokemon, only won due to spamming revives until his Chardizard went back to normal to hit him with a danamaxed rock time move. It was extremely challenging, but fun
For my playthough I didnt use any healing items in battle as I wanted that extra challenge and I almost lost to Leon even I was under leveled when I battled him by 5 levels.
P. S. Are you going to do the Isle of armour battle themes next?
When I first went to battle him I had to use so much healing because I was under leveled it really sucked😵
It wasn't for me, my pokemon were quite overleveled thanks to the shitty exp share.
So I just beat Leon with an all-grass type team (Rilaboom, Ludicolo, Roserade, Eldegoss, Appletun, and Ferrothorn), and this was by far the hardest battle over ever had in Pokémon. But let me just say this - Grass type’s are my least favorite of the 18 types... BUT there was something amazing about going through the game with my team and then against this guy, and let me tell you - when this song kicked in with me using a mono-type team I never thought I’d use, I had SO MUCH FUN. It honestly reminded me of what playing Pokémon is all about - the fun you have with it. I think this song perfectly encapsulates the feeling of “No matter how this goes, I’m gonna go all out with you guys.”
Thanks grassy bois (and you miss Eldegoss, “Brighton” for taking care of your brothers and as one of my best defensive Pokémon, despite me being wary of putting you on my team). What an epic battle.

Reading this made me feel bad for Leon's Seismitoad. It probably got one-shotted into the shadow realm.
I struggled with his Rhyperior and I have NO IDEA why I didn't just send out Inteleon and Snipe Shot it to death.
EDIT: If anyone's confused, Leon has two different Pokemon in his team depending on your starter. One is the starter strong against yours. The other is as follows:
If you have Rillaboom: Seismitoad
If you have Cinderace: Mr. Rime
If you have Inteleon: Rhyperior
Now just imagine Rhyperior in a mono bug run where your only answer is araquanid with physical moves....
Does Leon have different teams? I don't think he had a Rhyperior for me.

People say Leon is weak and that he was an easy fight, and that’s only because they were over leveled. This was without a doubt the hardest battle in the game. I was not prepared @~@ (I only won by spamming revives and potions)

People probably say that because he has 3 dragon types and 2 ghost types on his team. Just getting a Grimmsnarl along with getting a stealth rock up pretty much trivializes the entire fight.
Yeah, he was pretty strong, especially because I didn't properly level up my Pokémon for the league, thinking that with my team it would've been a piece of cake, but I got pretty surprised when I fought Leon. I thought "oh shit, it's over"

Playing this game and this battle in particular was such a rush of good energy.

See, people never really found Leon challenging, purely because of the fact that it was so easy to over level him, thanks to the Dynamax Dens and their endless supply of EXP Candies. But if you go in on a level playing field, or only slightly over leveled, you're greeted with a fight that's harder than Cynthia. No, I'm not kidding. His team diversity rivals hers, he has a guaranteed advantage over one of your Pokémon, as he'll always have the starter strong against yours, and his team's movesets are perfect, offering incredible offensive prowess, strong defensive utility, and team support to set up his Pokémon in the back. And his Charizard is probably the most underrated of Champion Ace's. Holding a berry to weaken super effective Rock moves, even Rock types can struggle to topple him, while being nailed with Grass Knott/Max Overgrowth. A totally underrated Champion battle, and easily one of, if not the hardest Champion in Pokémon history. It's even canon that Leon isn't just the best trainer in Galar, he's *the* best trainer. He's not the Undefeated Champion in Galar. Until the player comes along, he's the Undefeated Champion of the world. Even Raihan has the strength to rival champions, and it's been said he could easily go and become champion in any other region. But he chooses Leon to try and prove he's the greatest of *all* trainers, and Raihan's the only trainer Leon even sees as a rival. Plus, he actually does his job of helping protect his region, so there's that, too...

No matter what people may think, the game has a great soundtrack. Literally all of the battle themes are some of the absolute best in the series.

Leon is the best champion in the history of Pokémon:
Has the most personality than any of the other champions. Dude is litterally a hype machine
Has one of the strongest teams since Cynthia and even arguably stronger than hers
Has the most relevance to any Pokémon story
The man has the Hall of fame as his theme which has sooo much detail to it when you think about it
Even after he lost his title of being “the unbeatable champion” he still strives to complete his goal which is to make Galar the strongest region and becomes the new chairmen to further his journey. Incredible character, incredible ambition and most importantly he represents us as when we were younger winning our first Pokémon league

Can’t argue with that but alder and N were both champions, had personality and were included in the story, they had brilliant themes and alder was reminded of a dead Pokémon. If you think of it, gen 5 gives this champ a run for his money

His Aegislash was the only problem for me because it could somehow predict when I would attack or defend. My entire team consisted of Pokemon that were either weak to it or were physical attackers, so the only way I could beat it was to teach my Rillaboom Snarl. Other than that it was a pretty fun match.

In terms of difficulty or personality? Cause difficulty goes to Cynthia. And personality definitely goes to alder or iris from black/white, black2/white2
Bubbled popplio both. Alder and Iris I find “meh”, Diantha is just...no. Kukui and Hau were fairly simple and I found their personalities to be a whatever. Leon is an all around fun guy and if hadn’t been super grind-y like I have the level jump he has at the end makes it a decent challenge. Not Cynthia levels of challenge, but definitely more challenging than the other champions between them.

@@Dougbro1 She said it during November, 2019. As Sword and Shield released, Trainers were standing at the event spot talking about the Galar region. Iris was one of them, it was a limited time conversation. I suppose it's fine if you don't believe me.
@@ab0mlnati0n74 If you saw it with your own eyes on your own device, then I can't argue with that. I did miss this event, after all, and wasn't sure. If it is true, I do hope they expand upon that in a future main series game (perhaps a Unova remake), because that is a major lore connection to make that might be worth mentioning.
