Thank you. People kept telling me that this washer didn't have a filter in it. So we've been dealing with a smell for about three years now. You were the ONLY person we found that went beyond basic tips to just wipe down the rubber gasket. All clean now!!! Thank you!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. Had watched another video, must have been different model, because lots of stuff had to be removed for access and then the pump/filter was back inside . Before I disconnected everything and dragged unit out to the garage to work on, thought I'd watch another video. SCORE.
You were right on the money. Only a couple minor differences, #20 torx screw instead of phillips head, and, after tugging for a couple minutes after removing two screws, saw a third screw at middle of panel. Thanks again.

Your video was spot on. I cleaned mine. My mistake was…I poured water in my machine before I put the plug back in. Yep it was a little messy. Thanks again for sharing.

Much appreciation. I've had my washer/dryer 5000 combo for about 15 years and just today it started showing the F21 error and wouldn't drain. Found your video and pulled my filter. It was full and then some. Worked just fine after a cleanup. One comment to add, the placement of this filter is so dumb, you really get water everywhere, especially when your drum is not draining. Make sure you have some large tupperware or something to catch all the drippings and be prepared to take apart your stands to mop things up LOL.

Your TIP IS GREAT! Yes, it is hard to catch the water that drains out. Agreed, the placement is dumb!!! So happy this video helped you!

Great video, works perfect, exactly where the filter trap is on our Maytag and it's almost too easy. Mine had 3 hex head screws. The SD error we'd been getting disappeared.
Some Maytag washers have the drain in the middle of the machine, facing sideways, those require removing the back panel, which isn't super difficult.
Clothes now come out very clean and without a strong residual detergent odor, which had to be due to the machine being unable to properly drain water and perform a good rinse.

Ours was so bad that the washer wouldn’t drain. It hadn’t been cleaned for probably 8 years. As you mentioned, there’s NOTHING in the user guide that mentions this trap and the need to clean it. Shame on Maytag for leaving out this important maintenance step! Be prepared for a significant amount of water to come out when the trap is opened. The smell was awful. Nice video!

@@adobson100 Indeed! It also helps to tip the washer up and rest it on something to prevent water from spilling out. I used a hand pump to suck out the remaining water just to be sure.

We started having drain issues and a F 21 error. Don’t know we had a filter hidden. Pulled the panel and filter and it was plugged solid. Small sock, change, hair ties, email hair and just slimy junk. Cleaned it up and issues is resolved. Thanks for the great informational video.

Thanks for the video ❤ just FYI I had to use a 1/4 socket to unscrew mine because of the screws were hexagon. Also after pulling off the panel I used it as a drip pan to catch any water and gunk and it caught everything. Now I’m running a load of wash to see how it goes before putting that panel back on

I absolutely hate my Maytag front loader set. I've replaced so many parts on my dryer I can't even count. The washer would suck socks through the rubber boot and get clogged in the filter..... regularly.... I got tired of jacking the machine up. Draining the water and cleaning the filter.

Mine was Torx. I have a Maytag MHWE450WW01. No mention of this in the user manual PLUS three Torx screws. Needs to be done 3-4 times a year but Maytag doesn't tell you and requires a Torx screwdriver. Thank you @adobson100 for posting this.

THE RIGHT TO REPAIR!!! Yesterday I was on the phone with Maytag to ask how to get the damn hex screws off that hold the front panel in place and that I wanted to clean the filter. No, no, no, no, no was their reply. Not recommended! MUST call a certified Maytag repairman to do that. Fat chance that I need a repair person to unscrew 3 screws and clean a filter. Shame on #Maytag.
