Musicianship aside, I don't believe The Beatles would've gained their immense popularity but for the individual personalities of each of the band members. I really believe something as innocuous as Ringo replacing Pete Best was crucial to their immense success. Their fame was an indescribable mix of talent AND personality and each of them played an irreplaceable part.

The human element in music has become greatly diminished. You can hear how starkly diminished when you listen back to the classics. And the Beatles did work extraordinarily hard, paying their dues. They brought a working class mindset to their music work ethic. There’s a great story Paul tells (paraphrasing roughly) where they got a record, and a song had the most interesting guitar chord they just couldn’t figure out. They heard that some kid on the other side of Liverpool knew the guitar part for said song, and Paul, John et al took a long bus ride just to learn that one chord from this guy who was more accomplished than they were.

It's the interplay...Keith Richard said "playing guitar is REALLY about playing WITH another guitarist...that it's the magic of accident, that creates a previously unknown melody/harmony..that it's unpredictability creates the magic"...
    (Approximately)...

I totally agree! I absolutely love the interaction between Keith and Ron. Have you seen my recent Keith posts?
