As a European hearing someone say I just want my coins in plastic still hurts ... But still a cool video to see how these coins are comming back with their grades.
Not to bad my man. Au58 coins look mint state, however look for wear on the highest points of the coin both sides. The FSB in the middle area does look glossy as wear looks like that. It's still beautiful with those colors!
Have to agree on the 17-D dime...looks split to me. I've never been a fan of most toned coins.... there's an occasional one that looks nice but.... just not a big fan. Also, I just don't have that much faith in the grading companies as far as grading.... whether it's genuine, I think they're great but grading...not so much. Thanks for sharing, Speg. Take care, be safe and God bless! 🇺🇸
Speg, salt, and pepper shaker guy here, lol, and like you, I've had my share of disappointment from grading services. Yes, I agree that it's still nice to have them in a slab, but, wow especially that toner Merc., wow!!
Thanks Speg - I own a nice collection of coins from all 4 of the reputable and respected grading services. I think who you choose should be based on why…and not based on the company. What I mean is PCGS is great if you plan to sell your coins. NGC for collectors and all types of coins. ICG for modern and common coins you plan to keep. Simply confirm/validate them and protect them. Finally ANACS is kind of the same but they are also best for errors and varieties. My opinion. I recently sent 14 coins to ANACS and I was happy overall. Disappointed in one grade I thought should have been a little higher. Also the guarantee was great! One coin was turned in the holder. I sent it back and they fixed it at no cost to me and even graded another coin for free. Anyway, We have options and I think ANACS is coming back in a way that we should give them some time of day… They all have pros and cons.
ANACS Great Video Speg, I would try sending the autographed silver dollar in to ANACS with a note describing how you want it under plastic, good luck, Keep Stackin bro
That’s exactly why I don’t like graded coins …. One company says unc details and the other company gives it a grade . Untrustworthy system buy the coin not the slab people…..
PCGS has a [remium for sure. I am sure it hurts when you do not receive the grade you were expecting can be upsetting. On the other hand. I am sure the argument could be made that PCGS is keeping its standards and quality at a level one would expect from PCGS. I know for a fact that you are not the 1st person to have been disappointed with their opinion, At any rate, TY for sharing.
I think grading companies are a racket. The one things to be broke out and resubmitted from one Coin to another. They charge a ridiculous amount and most the time I don’t think they get it right. It’s just their opinion. It shows they have no more experience than the average collector.
My guess is that the monetizing of this video which increases with the traffic created by these comments through the algorithm is why he has invested money in it. In a way you just helped offset his costs. Good for Speg!
Lots of factors go into grading and what you get back. Unfortunately can't put reasoning here. The AU would have to see in person. Top tier services don't miss the grade by 5 grades, a hint. 1st item is the gem in the pile...
Agree. I have sent coins to them to get graded and sell for me and I believe the they also get better grades than I would if I sent them directly to grading.
Ive sent many coins into PCGS myself, usually when i get a coin thats a dissapointment i will crack it out and re submit, On many occasions ive had better results the second time, I know you probably have heard this before but I just wanted to give you some hope for a better grade on that 1917 D mercury, To me it looks like a MS62 😀, anyways good luck, I love your videos, and hope maybe someday i will run into you at coin guy 👍
I would've liked it if PCGS would have stabbed that peace dollar as a "WW2 token" or "memorabilia" id say some soldiers carved their names on that coin as a souvenir to commemorate the end of the war, That's my theory. Still a fascinating piece of history worth money.
I use NGC and the processing times are epically long. Also had 3 coins badly handled by NCS through their conservation techniques: dried solvent spots, rag marks, etc. You can obtain compensation if you complain enough and show them before & after images.
The big business that send the most coins in definitely get get treated much better and with all due respect they get higher grades because they want them to keep spending the big money with them . But them merc dimes are beautiful would love to have them .
I haven't ever sent anything in. If I want a graded coin I will buy them from one of the big companies which I have very few of. Like the old saying goes, money talks and bullcrap walks. The US Mint is now selling 2023 proof S silver eagles. I bought one along with the W proof eagle to go with the morgan and peace dollar. I have noticed that when a coin is on the fence, they never grade up they always grade down. That's how they keep the upper number graded coins to a respectable number. Just my opinion.
Just bought 500 shares of GDX (Van Eck Gold Miners)...with average Joe able to buy one ounce of gold at Costco....and they are selling out in seconds....I think the shares of gold miners will do very well. "the War play".....
My guess is the details Morgan’s a little too bright for the amount of wear on the coin Speg. The 1917 Merc is one of those good ole sliders(remaining detail in the hair). It would probably make low mint state 1/3 of the time. AU 58 coins in all types of holders can be a pretty good Cherrypickering opportunities as they often depend on the day/grader/workload. I think you will find that many times AU58 coins have better eye appeal than some coins graded low mint state. Just my opinion, but I am a nobody so there you have it.
If you ever decide to sell that token I'd be very interested in it ...I live just outside of Hamilton and that would be an awesome piece for the collection
Quite frightening! The notion that the first two cleaned coins were detail graded is too much. Sometimes I watch UA-cam videos with psychologists and neurobiologists who have pointed out time and time again how human behavior is prone to huge errors when arriving at opiniohns like coin grhading. Throw in the greed motive and we've got a mess. It goes like this: bless yourself to be somehow saint like , submit to (submit?)these companies and grit your teeth. Their fees are too high too. To me it seems like some of the graders don't think things through very well.
I hate to say it but PCGS has gone down hill so much over the past few years, they have very poor customer communication with there grades. Seems it’s time for people to stand up and say no you are wrong and need to fix things if you want my money.
Speg I tried to buy the peace dollar from ww2 from coin guy the same day you bought it. I got the short snorter that was with it. If you wanna sell it I’d buy it back so they are together again
Great coins Mr Speg. I enjoy watching all of your videos, you do a great job and offer a great point of veiw and showcase some great shiny stuff. I would definitely enjoy more grade reveals like today. It's nice to hear your thoughts on things and as much as I love Morgan's, it's nice when not every coin is a morgan dollar. Cheers

Those are some pretty coins. I remember the so called dollar, that feels like that happened a while ago. PCGS grading is pretty good. I've seen coins that came back as AU58 with just the tiniest bit of rub on them that's hard to see. Sometimes holding the coins at a steep angle you can see the rub just barely on the surface at the high points. Thanks for showing us these beauties!
Disagree. Calling you and discussing their/your thoughts about condition before grading does not render an independent third party assessment. Sorry your feelings got hurt but that's what protects the value in the hobby. Those people have made numismatics their career. You on the other hand pump out UA-cam videos. Think you've been drinking a little too much Coin Guy Kool aid.
Dan, you’re spending good money on these services and people should promote the hobby, including graders. Promoting the hobby means education and not secretiveness. Some of your comment was really odd and I’m unsure if you just started typing your thoughts without thinking them through. Otherwise I’d respond to those things too.
I am super surprised on that barber 1917 ..looks Awesome!
Grading companies don't care about the people or their coins , they only care about getting their fees / money💰
I see where the two previous replies have been deleted?
The way I always understood it with pcgs too is you won't get the full bands designation unless it gets an ms grade..
Yep that's correct
As a European hearing someone say I just want my coins in plastic still hurts ... But still a cool video to see how these coins are comming back with their grades.
Not a fan of the plastic in Europe?

Thanks for the submissions! Another spegtacular vid! Agree with you. Hand over heart now.
I agree with slabbing to learn and preserve, regardless of ROI.
ANACS

3 months turnaround return from pcgs is ridiculous. Not worth the $ or the wait.
Nice coins, Speg!
I would send that 1917-D Mercury Dime to CAC. I bet it would sticker! Great video!
Excellent video Speg 👍 I love show and tell videos
Thanks for your constant support, Kayne 😊
Forgot to mention that I just sent off some coins to CAC recently. Turn around time was about 2 weeks.

That so-called dollar is a great design. The reverse with the train & mine is a nice reflection of that time period.
That Nevada dollar is legit, it is also amazing and I wish I had it. I kind of wish you talked more about it
Never wanted a token until knowing more from this video 😮
They’re pretty neat!
To each his own👍You waste a lot of money and it makes no since to me.
Is it really a waste of money if lots of potential buyers give a value to these slabs? ( real open question here. )
Not when the added value is Less than the $$$ paid… definitely the case with the majority of these
My guess is that the monetizing of this video which increases with the traffic created by these comments through the algorithm is why he has invested money in it. In a way you just helped offset his costs. Good for Speg!

What is that sign in Coin Guy's store about coin grading?
Pcgs and ngc won't put full bell lines or full bands if it isn't ms
When you submit a coin do you have to ask for full bell lines, full bands, full steps, etc? Or do they automatically look for that?
This is something YOU are supposed to include on the form and I’m not sure if they automatically apply it if you don’t.. very unusual imo
I have heard coin guys call the toning on ur 1887 Morgan dollar a champagne tone. I like both, name & toning
Lots of factors go into grading and what you get back. Unfortunately can't put reasoning here. The AU would have to see in person. Top tier services don't miss the grade by 5 grades, a hint. 1st item is the gem in the pile...
Great Collections wouldve gotten the graffiti coin in plastic!

If slabs make you happy, then more power to you. But understand it’s a money making scam.
❤ those mercs
awesome coins
I’d like to see ANACS and icg but I’d also like to see the entire process. Even ngc or pcgs websites aren’t really all that clear
I explained the grading industry to a top school MBA who replied with a laugh, "It's a racket."
I've had the full bands argument as well with ngc and pcgs. According to them it has to be ms60 to recieved full bands.

PCGS will only give FB designation to mint state coins. If a Merc or Rosy falls to AU, there goes the FB.
Your 1917-D may be FB, but it must grade in Gem for it to receive that designation.
I would've liked it if PCGS would have stabbed that peace dollar as a "WW2 token" or "memorabilia" id say some soldiers carved their names on that coin as a souvenir to commemorate the end of the war, That's my theory. Still a fascinating piece of history worth money.

Have heard a lot of bad things and people questioning PCGS lately. Kind of sad, seems like since new ownership, things have changed drastically.
I own some PCGS straight graded coins that should definitely be 'Details'. Things appear to be are slipping thru the cracks.
Lol

Nice mercs. id send the 17D to ngc. they could have slabbed that peace dollar its odd to see "Refund" on a label though.

PCGS is undergrading and calling everything cleaned or questionable color. I'm no longer going to use them.
I have been experience the opposite. Not higher grades they they should be but coins from them that straight graded when they should be 'Details'.
the 23 peace $ is a love token
