I was told this trail has improved, was it worth the drive?

  • It has been about two years since I'd been to Lake Rebecca. A subscriber told me that there were some new features added and that I should give it another shot. It looks like there have been a few updates and features added and the trails are running fast.

Looks like they've mowed the fields. Those were pretty high when I rode there a couple of weeks ago. It's a fun course to hit once in a while. Long drive for me, so I'll do it once or twice a year. I actually think it really works well for fat biking in the winter.

It probably a great system for fat biking. It is a very XC trail.

This would be a long drive for me, but I need to check it off my list this summer/fall.

So it's worth checking out to see how it rides. I see a lot of similarities with Monarch but this one has been around long enough that there are optional lines.

It’s the number of logs that make it hard the one at Murphy is easier. That one is hard and really requires a lot of effort. I rode there when the Chaska/Chan/EP MTB team had practice there a couple weeks ago. I try to get in front of the groups by at least 20 minutes but there were guys cutting new trail it was soft and slow in spots but looks fun! I’ll give it a couple weeks, I work out there and ride it on my way home often!

Those log features are tricky. I do think this one is easier than the ones at Lebanon Hills.

Hi Brian. My son and I were out there last Wednesday. Did just over ten miles. The whole south west section was closed for work. I think that's were the skills part is. I like Rebecca but I also like flow. The biggest complaint I have is about all the roots.

So the work they did was mostly towards the end and it wasn't anything radical. Just seemed like some singletrack repair. Definitely has some flow and I didn't really notice the roots. Maybe lower your tire psi?

@@BrianVaughn sure. You probably right. I've been riding mostly road lately and do have them pumped up a little. Thanks

Every time I go to Lake Rebecca I tell myself I'm not going back. It's not a *bad* trail, but it is just kinda...boring? Uneventful? I dunno. Also not a fan of the areas where the trail is like 8" wide and dug out. Makes for weird riding with plus tires trying to stay in that small channel. That said if I want to do cardio, this is where I go, as the climbs are great for that.

I must be in good riding shape because the climbs didn't bother me. The mindless singletrack feeling was a little more broken up by the new side features but it was still there. I do think it's a step up from Monarch but they feel a lot alike.

@@BrianVaughn Agreed on all that. The climbs aren't necessarily an ass kicker, but if you ride it like an XC (which it is) to get your heart rate into a zone it's a great cardio workout trail imo. It won't overwork you too much or too little. I like LR in the spring to get in shape after winter, then I remember how bored I felt and skip it until the following year.

Nooooope. That's one of those "the downs aren't worth the ups" kinda place. If you're an XC, lycra-wearing cadence hound, then yeah. It's great. But yikes for me.

So I don't think the climbs are that bad but there is a lot of mindless pedaling. The new features did help with that some but this is a trail for the XC riders.
