I just wanted to take a minute to thank you. I am a true beginner in the auto detailing world, and I'm a female in this male dominated industry. But your videos have truly been a great help to me. I've watched a few different UA-camrs, but you by far break it down to a simple level where is beginners can't go wrong. You're not long and drawn out but very knowledgeable, which is great. I can sense your humility, and I just wanted to say it is much appreciated. Keep up the amazing work!

Scott, recently purchased a 2009 Honda Accord coupe low milage from a dealership, loaded with swirl marks and light scratches, after watching most of your paint correction videos I purchased a Harbor Freight DA and Meguiar's d300 and d301 with microfiber pads and proceeded to buff and polish the car - using your videos as a guide - I owe you a big thank you - car turned out outstanding. Now have to dread the New England weather for a spell. THANK YOU - Your videos were invaluable!

I have a 2010 Honda Accord coupe BLACK and have been watching as many videos as I can to do the same. Trying to pick out what I need and technique to get started. I'm sure black paint requires special compound and polish and different touch. Anything you can share to help?

    • @jdisdetermined
      @jdisdetermined 6 років тому +2

cgasieni black paint polishes the same as any other color. It is just incredibly revealing of imperfections. I'd recommend starting out with something like the Chemical Guys correction kit, $50 gets you #32 heavy cut compound #34 medium compound #36 light cut polish and #38 finish polish. It's good to start with less aggressive products and work your way up until you get results. If you have heavy defects and deep scratches you may need a microfiber pad for strong cutting ability. Otherwise I'd recommend sticking with foam pads, just all around easier to use. Chemical Guys make a great foam kit. There are many other pad options, they are just what I prefer. I'd start with a mid level, less expensive but still capable DA. Meguiars MT-300, Porter Cable 7424XP, something in that range. If you catch the detail bug you can always upgrade to a high end DA and use the first one with a 3" plate and pads for tight areas. A 3" will come in very handy in some spots on almost any vehicle.. Have fun, it's addictive! These are my opinions based on my experience, others may differ.. =)

I completely agree with your statement regarding the HF 8" that its a fantastic tool for working your skillset. Start with it and it's only up from there. There is a good amount of vibration on it but I will say for beginners, get you a 3" and 5" backing plate and pads, grab a good compound and start practicing and honing your skills.

After I heard you say that you're not going to ask me to subscribe, like, and/or comment, I did all of the above, because you're the first person that I've ever heard on UA-cam say that. Good gosh, after watching this video and all those polishers lined up, it made me think I was looking at the local Golden Coral buffet. "Which item(s) do I pick tonight?" "Oh hell, i'm not on a diet, pick em all!" Scott is one of the most honest detailers on UA-cam. He tell's it straight whether it's a good review or bad one. Honesty is what I look for in a detailing video. Tell me if it's gonna be worth my dollars and cents as I don't have nothing to waste. I need a good value on a product that is EFFECTIVE. Scott seems to do that in his videos.

    Hey Scott,
I recently retired and bought a 2009 corvette (bucket list) The paint is in nice condition with some very minor swirling. Anyway, I’ve never had a car that needed to be detailed before. So being a regular Joe Schmuck I checked things out on the internet. I am so confused!!! “And let me tell you why” Every time I think I have it right I watch another video and see a new step or product that I hadn’t seen before. When I come home with more stuff, my lovely wife always seems to be standing at the door with that internal cash register going off in her head. She keeps waiting for me to get started because I've now bought all this stuff. I’ve managed to keep her at bay with some fancy double talk but my dog is on to me. When I go to the garage, my dog just sits on the step and stares at me like a car race spectator waiting for the crash. I'm not real sure what I’m doing, the right order, the right product, etc. How do I know if I need to clay or not? Are the procedures just the same on a fiberglass Corvette? Here is a list of some of the stuff I've acquired so far: Groit’s Finish Car Wash, Griot’s Yellow Mitt (instead of clay bar), Griot’s Speed Shine, Groit’s double sided water absorbing towel, Mequire’s Ultimate Compound, Mequire’s Ultimate Polish, Mequire’s Ultimate Fast Finish, Lake Country Orange pad, White pad, and backing plate, Dupli-Color grease remover, and Harbour Freight DA polisher (only because I wanted the neighbors to think “hey that Jimmy must really know what he’s doing”) Sounds like I may need more foam pads and red pad as well for waxing? Could you possibly do a short step by step explanation video for minor swirling for us weekend warriors just describing the procedures and the order in which to do them? As in step 1, wash with this product, step 2 dry completely, step 3 clay bar with lubricant, step 4 clean with Dupli-Color etc... Thanks Scott, Jimmy the song and dance man

I bought a Rupes 15mm MKll a couple years ago. It was the first polisher I had ever owned and the first polished I had ever used. Had never even held one in my hands until my Rupes. I have to be honest and say it’s been a disappointment from the get go. Stalled so bad even on slightly curved panels. So I did the washer mod. That made a MASSIVE improvement. But still, it stalls a lot. Even the main guy from Rupes said it was my technique. I’ve logged many hours behind this machine and I can say it’s not my technique anymore. Over all fit and finish it’s second to none. But the stalling has done it for me. I’m gonna be trying out the flex 3401 as soon as I sell my Rupes. I’m not a pro trying to bust out 2-3 cars a day or whatever. Just maybe 1 car a day as I detail for side money or mainly just for the enjoyment. Tired of this pad stalling overhyped polisher.

That 3401 is a completely different animal. That pad doesn't stall or slow down.
If pad stall is an equation you want to get rid of, you might really like the 3401.
Since the long throw polishers gained popularity, the 3401 seems to have taken an back seat, but the reality is that it works.
I had one, sold it, and just got another one. It doesn't need a lot if any extra pressure, nor does it need to me maxed out on speed. Great for one step polishing, and cleaner wax application. It also has the power to spin a wool pad for heavy cutting.
I typically use a PC, or a Rupes Duetto/Mini combo. I love those tools, but they're free spinning random orbitals, and are pretty different from the 3401.

Scott I own a festool RO125 which I use for woodworking and it's by far the best sander in my arsenal. They sell tons of foam pads etc to use for a vehicle. My question to you I suppose is can I use the festool to do what you do or is it not as safe as just picking up one of the Harbor Freight polishers. I am big into purchasing high quality tools and feel that when you are proud of your tool you tend to not only enjoy using it but the work comes out better ( at least for me it does) and I used to make fun of horrible freight tools but I can honestly say that some of my favorite tools come from there. They have gotten better and better and I’m to the point where I am not embarrassed to whip out tools from there anymore. I’m just curious if my Festool can do the same things these DA polishers can so I do not have to run out and spend the money on a DA. Although it might be cheaper to purchase the HB model with a bunch of pads. Festool products are fantastic but damn they charge an arm and a leg for everything they make. Any help from you would be overly appreciated. Thank you and have a great weekend

The rotary buffer cuts time and helps the detailer to keep profitable...with that said, I don´t know why are so many experts on the internet that, rather than explain how to use the rotary they criticize and discourage the use of it. Why is every one talking about DAs and working them if as I can see the rotary buffer has very much potential to achieve the same results?

Nice review. I have a Meguiar's MT300 (non-pro use) which is a pretty good machine. It's significantly smoother, quieter and more powerful than my old Porter Cable, which now has a 3'' pad for tight areas.
It's surprising that Rupes did not make more significant changes when they designed the Mark II units. The Mark I stalling issue was well known. The Mark II should've been a class leader. I've heard that they stall less often when using the Rupes pads. Unfortunately, I've never used a Rupes polisher, so I don't really know.

Sorry Scott, you mention "washer mod" but I have not seen a video on that? Am I missing something as to why you talk about it so much? Thank you!!!

Been looking everywhere for a review of the meguiars da. Can't find one. Been trying one out for fun for about 6 months now. Other than stealing issues, it works well. I know it's only an 8mm but hell, the thing works

Hey Scott. Long comment skip to the bottom if you just want the question ha. I love your videos I found you when I got a car beautiful enough that I wanted to detail it myself. I just noticed that you made a "Chemical Guys" remark about not liking their products. I as just a personal vehicle detailer enjoy the products I have gotten from them. I dont fet things that are unneeded from them like microfiber towels but I do order items such as waxes and other detail items. I am wondering without judgement cause I don't care who uses what but for my own knowledge is there a reason you do not like "Chemical Guys" products? Something I should be looking out for? Bad products bad packaging or just an opinion from a professional detailer. I just want to be able to cover my own butt if it's a reason worth mentioning. Thank you so much for making videos and if you answer this question.

Austin L CG got bad reputation because they have bunch of product that do the same job but only change the scent and have bad customer service from what I heard. If you try posting bad reviews on their channel or website they’re going to delete it. Don’t ask me how I know it.

Man your videos are always the best!! Question: what's the difference between these handle style and the 2 handle circular style ones? Those are way cheaper and I'm torn which to get as a beginner.

Great review as usual....... I would love to know what's your take on some of the mini da polishers on the market and do you have any in your arsenal or are u using a smaller backing plate on one of your polishers to tackle the more smaller intricate areas.

@ MrIronhgonzalez it's been replaced by a Bauer branded item. I've seen them both side to side and they appear to be identical except for branding and the plastic color.

Scott, Among other great things , you know what I love about you`re videos? You don`t play that annoying music in the background. OK now I have a question, I just bought a 2018 F150 Ruby Red mmmm . Do they come from the dealer all buffed and waxed ? Thank you.

Awesome show with good insights. If I had to get just 1 of these removing sanding marks and paint correction, would you agree that I get The TORQ? I've heard lots of good things about it lately.

I would really appreciate you trying the Makita and Milwaukee cordless polishers and how they compare. Since they’re brushless I’m curious if they’re smoother than most corded units
