Some people complain about your videos being to long. I look at it like your a college professor and your talking to the class. Explaining every detail with good short stories. The best part is it's all free!! A lot of people are in a rush and want to find the short cut solution. You give it in detail and explain with straight talk,no BS. :)
Camp Freedom VT I cannot agree more! Scott’s tangential tidbits provide a greater context for the subject at hand. I always loved professors who would follow a tangent of thought and had energy. The internet has plenty of 30 second “tips n tricks” top ten chop-edited whatever videos. I love having a source for longer unedited videos. It is just like a fun lecture, you are so right.
Stand up guy I like his videos they are very educational and puts me as a beginner at ease, with his dont over think it attitude 👍your great man dont sell out lol
I don't even have words for how thankful I am to have found your channel. The videos are so simple and comprehensive. You cut out the bs and keep it real. Thank you for all of your knowledge and your willingness to share it Scott.
just wanted to say thank you for episode 1 and 2 for this paint correction, just finished my first 2 step correction and it turned out very well, straight to the point and i love how you don't over complicate simple stuff.
How can anyone complain about a video being too long when there are options such as dragging the slider bar to where you want or playing video at 1.5 speed etc.
Scott thanks for your videos and tips. I'm getting back into detailing after doing it for 15 years. Took a year off, and tried a different career, but I love detailing and it brings me joy. I'm in Florida and I can detail cars all year round, for the most parts. After watching your videos it has pushed me to get back into again. I will be watching your videos and if you don't mind posting some questions for you here and there
I'm lucky for a lay person but I have been blessed to have know some true master of auto paint and body. To watch those old men work was exciting. At least to me I wish I could remember their names after all these years. This one old man was a really nice man. He told his precious time to explain to me what he was doing. He said the foundation was not the frame but the body. He said the frame can take care of itself. I watch he restore that car for 2 weeks. Lord it was gorgeous after he finished. Museum quality work for sure. He took so much pride in his work. For hour using an orbital sander and wet sanding until that body was ready for the paint. I think it was a Pontiac LeMans he was working on. Funny how we remember the little things when he get older.
Hey Scott love the video, just wanted to let you know I appreciate your videos, pretty much learned everything about paint correction from you lol, had my first profitable paint correction job today, Thanks!
This is the best video i have seen for learning how to cut and polish. Thank you for making this easy to understand. You do a great job man keep it up 👍
wow thank you Chris:)..im happy you enjoyed the video and I'm sorry if i talk to much but after 26 years i have a lot to say..lol..thanks for your support and kind words..much love my friend:)
Hey Scott. I’m Late to the party. I just wanted to thank you so much. I’ve watched a ton of your videos and I’ve learned sooooo much. I have a 14 year old Acura TL that had probably Never been properly detailed. I know I hadn’t in past 3 years. Well I must say I probably Have the nicest looking TL of that era aside from ones that have been repainted etc. it’s a daily driver so there’s issues etc I can’t correct with out some actual body work. I came across you after having repainted my bumper after an accident and also redoing a front fender. Learned how to do all that on UA-cam as well. For a first timer I’d say it came out pretty good. Well I was looking into ways to get the work I’d done blend more into the car and also how to fix some clear coat screw ups and over sprays. I learned about using different compounds and pads to do so from you. I managed to get a door I had tried to just touch up but the clearcoat just didn’t match the rest of car and door to blend perfectly by really Cutting into it with Meguiars microfiber pad and M105 by Meguiars. Anyways it’s become an obsession now of mine lol. Completely did my finances older highlander black and that looks like new! I learned it all from you. Currently have just a harbor freight DA BUT ITS been a work horse. Have variation of pads from Chemical guys and lake country etc. NOw that things are good with car I’ve been using 3d speed and either Orange or white pad with awesome results. Thanks for all you do! Oh I want one those Marolex dispensers when you get them in!
Been using 105 for years . Yes working time is short. And it does dust. But it is a great cut. Also yes you need to wet the pads . Compound will dry . If you have areas that are tough to wipe off , use a damp microfiber. Works great for cleanup also .
what matters with polish formulations is what type of formula is it and what solvents are in it. they can be water in oil which most are and is not right or oil in water which is the better way to go for sure. the wrong solvents can impact negatively on the gloss, colour and clarity that can be achieved. some are low quality, some are excellent. your wetting the pad method is great, similar to damp compounding and with a product like M105 it is ideal. 105 is a good product but what it cost to make was peanuts compared to what they sold it for, humongous difference. I really love how honest you are and you bring some fantastic alternate methods and some things that the industry big wigs may not like. love that new york accent. the spraying water and wiping is exactly how I remove my favourite polishes. keep doing what your doing scott. menzerna FG400 is one of my most hated products. yes it cuts but the formula is not good. it's like grease in a bottle.
Great job Scott and great advice on how much compound to use regarding the companies wanting to make money. Wetting that pad is a great idea. Never thought of that but it makes a lot of sense.thxs
Hahahaaa! "Like a kids got acne "!!! I really like his videos.. as a rookie on my own car I've learned alot from him, and now going back for older videos. Seems like a good teacher. Thank you for explaining things!!!!
Excellent information, Scott - thank you. My main car is black and I'm building up the guts to correct the paint. Luckily I have four other cheap cars to practice on. Appreciate your insight.
Technically makes no difference what colour car it is as your working on the clear coat and not the colour base coat , best to practise on cheaper car but one thing you need to remember is some cars have soft clear coat and some have medium or some have hard clear coat , so one pad and compound may work on one car but not the other , best to do a test spot to check what type of clear coat your working with so you can use the correct pad and polish , start with the least aggressive and move up if you need to , but black car makes no difference and the only difference is , every little swirl or haze will be visible compared to a silver or white car , might be good idea to get a paint depth gauge especially if you don’t know the history of the car , that way you’ll know if any panels been repainted and you’ll know how much paint you got to work with , one panel won’t have consistent level of paint so some parts of one panel may be a lot thinner paint than other part of the panel
Hi Scott, I recently got the urge to take my black Volvo V50's paint to the next level and I've been watching your channel religiously for the past 2 weeks but I still have one question. What kind of rag and fluid do you use to wipe in between compounding and the polish? I have been using a store bought detailer and it completely ruins my work after my polish. Thank you and congrats on your channel!
thank you Rodney!..im at the point in my career where i do one detail a day and maybe another small service and my details are not cheap so I'm not running around doing simple washes and vacuum hoping i make ends meet..but it took years to get here..also pushing 50 i can't imagine doing the long days i have of the past..auto detailing is hard work!...thank you for your support and kind words, i love having you on the channel
Watching as many of your videos as possible. Lots of learning from them. Enjoy your real world approach. Keep then coming. Great podcast, by the way. Hope to see part 2....
I learned a lot from your videos. Thank you for being generous with your time and sharing your knowledge. I appreciate what you do. By the way my wife and my neighbours think I am an expert at this and my Black Honda looks so clean and shiny. Thank you !!
Love watching your videos, you explain everything to the point. What is it you use for the paint prep when wiping off the residue? What is your opinion on Meguiar’s ultimate compound and the polish and what type of wax do you use?
Hey Scott what process would you recommend on a old work Truck. I just need a long lasting wax - not trying to impress just Protect the Paint. Hey Scott just saw your video 'Top "RETAIL" Products For Auto Detailing - In One Video! and at 10:39 told me what I wanted to know . Great Channel
Love your content scott! Been working on my project car and got to the point i wanna bring out shine to my car what paint prep brand you spray? Before removing the compound
I have since I started always washed my pads as I go along, wrang them out, and spun of major excess with machine so they are damp. Definitely helps alot. This hood has a lot of flake makes it hard to see the hazing from the 105. I at times have trouble with paint after I get a nice leveled surface using 105 or any other ultra cut compound, to completely refine those micro scratches when being viewed under and LED. Problem is most detail videos domt show the tiny light scratches created by the polish. What I wonder is on a high gloss black paint....no flake...under and led does a jewel or any other polish fully remove all those tiny what look like micro scratches?
Hey Scott, hope you can help me with my challenge. when do you break out the sandpaper? I want to remove severe Honda red paint oxidation and fading. I've been unable to find the right combination of compound and pad to get it back to red. The compounds range from Meguairs rubbing compound, 105, 205, ultimate compound, ultimate polish, Mother's Showtime, carnauba cleaner wax, yellow clay bar, Griots Garage 3 in 1, orange foam pad, I'll try anything before having it painted. I've made several pass to the rear panel and it's original red came back with a small speckled patch of pink and red but its not a consistent color. I'm thinking of a 1500 to 2000 grit rub the car than use a compound. With your experience what do you think? I'm not a detailer but helping an elderly person with some TLC to her car. I want to do it right and not cut corners to restore the car color. I enjoy your videos keep the Big D shin'en
Your Videos are very informative and educational ... thank you for your efforts ... Question ... What do you think of the Eagle One prep mitt instead of Clay Blocking ... or Maquires 2.0
I don't understand why people think Compounding and Polishing is hard you can get 95% defect removal on a 2 step with D300 and a microfibre pad and a Sonex finishing polish with a yellow pad, Ceramic coat it and forget about it for 3 to 5 years.
I really enjoy and learn a lot from your videos. It's hard to understand some of what you're saying with that heavy Texas accent. I just replay it and go slow. Worth every second. Mrs. English would be proud. Just having fun, now off to work on my Impala. Thank-Q
M105 had me beating my head against the wall yesterday. First time user with a Griots 6" DA and orange Lake Country pads. Ended up with a lot of holograms. I only had the machine on speed setting 3.5 -4. I used the pad prep method in this video, and the Kevin Brown method and still couldn't get it right. I think I need to increase the speed.
TheParajoe I used to use 6 inch with my porter cable but I started using 5.5 and I prefer them but I don't know the speed settings to your da but mine goes up to 6 and I think that's like 3600rpm or something but I never max it,I spread product at speeds 3 and 4 and then compound and polish at 5. 6 honestly makes me feel like it'll go nuts but I use scholls concepts s20 black and i start heavy and do a couple passes maybe and then go light over it and usually it's perfect after but sometimes on a black car you'll see 1 or two swirls but I'm trying to figure it out,but the m105 I haven't used with a da I used it for a rotary to buff the rough stuff out and then finish up with a da,I don't think that helped too much but I'm hoping it did
Hey Scott, great video, really enjoyed it. Quick question, for the compounding phase, do you do the whole car to make everything even, or do you just hit the trouble spots?
Hey mate, love the channel! Recently did my first machine correction (Black R36 Passat) and after some testing and fiddling settled on a two stage with S3 XXL white scholl spider pad and finished down with S30 with a shinemate red. In my youtube searching i've come across an interesting thing, some right handed people use their right hand at the front of the machine and balance with their left, and some right handed people use their right hand to balance the machine and use their left hand at the front. Any reason for this? Or is it down to personal preference? Keep up the good work!
I recognize that hood and it's from a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I know that hold well because one of my oldest customers has one, a white one that's a nightmare to wash, hehe. And this is probably the third or fourth time watching this video!
That's hard paint. Please give me tips/trick to face sticky black paint/japanese black paint. I spend too much time dealing with it, Japanese black paint is a disaster for me
Subscribed. I have a question. So I bought a midnight edition RAM. Seems like dealer may have covered up some imperfections. What is the life span as far as reappearing after your technique. I wash my truck thru a touch free in winter. Will those scratches reappear after a few washes? Thx
I've been trying to find the answer to some atypical questions and it's friggin impossible, Scott, I washed my car with degreaser (I had the stuff in the purple can before it was cool!) and was going to do some paint correction when I got called into work. I've put like, 3 miles on the car, it's the same day, can I get away with doing a rinseless wash (despite that it was "wax-like agents") and move on to the M105 on a wool polisher or should I top down wash it again? And what do you do inbetween products? Full wash, rinseless or just wipe down and move on to the next product?
Finally!! You remind me of Tim Allen’s neighbor on home improvement who never showed his face! I just started watching your videos and you were always hidden and now revealed hahaha JK! Thanks for all your tips. I’m learning so much!! I appreciate your videos.
Hey man, you must be making waves, already got haters watching you.. I've been painting cars for years, and I didn't know that 3M own Meguiers, and I really couldn't care. Good one Scott.
Scott First video I've seen with your face lol. Are you sure you're not a ganster and the detailing is your front. Lol lol Your videos are top shelf - some of the best UA-cam has to offer.
Hello ..nice video I have a Black 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid, as soon as o got it i put on a coat of " Liquid Glass". I want to put on the Black detail you have done on the Mustang,...my question is How to prep my car,..I have swirl marks from car washing and do i have to remove the "Liquid Glass "?, .....I want to be able to have a shine to last for a couple of years....Please advise...Thank you.
Awesome video How do I apply this to my debadged harley for a first timer at this I got the torax kit from CG with their 4 v sys Want to do a ceramic Any tips it's a black street glide
I have the same DA with 6" backing plate .I ordered a 6" Meguires microfiber cutting pad but its slightly bigger on the backing plate. Do you always get a pad 1/2" smaller than what the DA is? I notice you have a 5.5 pad on the 6" DA ..
No offense but dusting and grabby residue removal are the two things that will make me pass on a compound. I used M105 for years back in 2008-2012. I will never use it again. Lol. Rupes zephyr gloss with a Flex XFE15 cordless and lake country pads is what I’m using. Nothing beat it. Cuts super fast and finishes out without polishing in most cases. Im not a detailer thought. I’m a mobile touch up and scratch repair guy. So speed is key for me. But to each it’s own. Love your videos!!
I love this guy. I think he's great and gives great advice. But.. he's living in the past.. M105 is great but nowadays there are better.. compounds that cut and finish equally as well but didn't need all this silliness to use it. Try Optimum Hyper Compound.
Could you try hex logic pads with Koch Chemie? Would love to see you try those 😉 and btw thats what i use and i cant get this result with yellow hex logic pads and koch chemie H9 :/ with 4 pea size dots and like a 2 by 2 and not taking all scratches off 😓😓 idk how you do it if you can give me advice would love it
Scott you’re a good man can you do one on a charcoal gray hood a car that’s the color of my vehicle and it’s a 2012 but I want to get that brand new glass shine back to it
I just don't like M105 dusting. And having to use it a few times a week for about a year I got plenty of practice with the stuff. It was always a science experiment about how much water I had to respray on the pad after every 2x2 or 3x3 pass. If I had too much, i'd sling, if I didn't have enough the product would dry after 1 or 2 passes and i'd have to add more water. I'm glad I used M105 because it basically kicked me in the butt and taught me alot quickly. I did have alot of success using M105 2/3 and M205 1/3 in a bottle. It still cut good, finished better, and the product had more working time.
can you make me a video of your one year experience with m105?..show me how you use it, i noticed you have a video of you washing a truck with onr and i know it doesn't have a lot of views but maybe making a video of your success with controlling dusting with m105 will really help a lot for your channel..you seem to have a lot of knowledge about paint correction and auto detailing using onr on the outside and inside of cars..its all you seem to talk about (onr)..are you using hyper compound and polish?
That was the first time I was using ONR, so I made a video and sent it too Yvan Lacroix from Optimum. I asked him if I was doing everything correct, and I wasn't. I should of pressure washed the vehicle before hand. But since then i've having nothing but success with it. I use it for interiors, windows, and now paint. As far as what compound I currently use. I've tried most of Meugiar's Lineup, Chemical Guys, Schols, Griot's Garage, Menzerna/Jescar, & HD. I've had the best results with Griot's Fast Correcting Cream combined with either Perfecting Polish or M205. Normally I just use M205 with a MF cutting pad to compound and a White Rupes or Yellow Rupes pad with M205 to finish. But my M105 method was similar to yours and unfourantly I don't have any M105. But anyway I just didn't enjoy the process of playing scientist with a water bottle to get the longer working times I wanted (because I used a cheap machine). It just took extra work and more time to get the results from the compound I wanted. I was also doing this in a body shop at the time. So I experimented with various things trying to water down M105 etc. The bodyshop I worked at used M105 and M205 for EVERYTHING. So I simply mixed them together at 2/3 105 and 1/3 205 and got those longer working times I was after.

It's way more user friendly than the 3 stages a compound that I started out with
Scholls S30 black with a spider pad is my choice, it's all about the person, and their experience and technique.
Love your content scott! Been working on my project car and got to the point i wanna bring out shine to my car what paint prep brand you spray? Before removing the compound
Thanks very very much for that tip , i Will do that , im impress about the water ... saluts from Puerto Rico
Tambien soy de puerto rico saludos

its on the list...hang tight and i will get to it...thanks for the idea and for your support
Scott love your videos, I'll have learned a lot from them.
Scott what did u have on the yellow rag when wiping down the M105?
Your Videos are very informative and educational ... thank you for your efforts ... Question ... What do you think of the Eagle One prep mitt instead of Clay Blocking ... or Maquires 2.0
Great demonstration Scott. Good video
Wow. Absolutely great video.
I don't understand why people think Compounding and Polishing is hard you can get 95% defect removal on a 2 step with D300 and a microfibre pad and a Sonex finishing polish with a yellow pad, Ceramic coat it and forget about it for 3 to 5 years.
You are an absolute champion. I'm always laughing and listening. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Straight talk here. No BS. Texas style!
Wow you are pretty amazing if by this video you only had 700 subs and now your over 19k subs! Just in a little over 5 months! Wow. Great work!
Victor Hernandez 4 months later still rising consistently
69k now ! Good job !!
186k now
Just need to know what you sprad on it before you wiped it off after buffing it,,was it detailing spray ,thanks
"This is silly let me point that camera up" lol
Your presentation is excellent, sincere and obviously eager to pass on your knowledge. Thank you!
3m just bought our company. I think they will own the world by 2022.
LOL!!!!!
"looks like someone washed their car with ONR..."
literally bursted out laughing.
too much.
keep up the great work Scot
LOL!...ONR is a great product but i was being silly..im happy you had a good laugh..much love brother
I really enjoy and learn a lot from your videos. It's hard to understand some of what you're saying with that heavy Texas accent. I just replay it and go slow. Worth every second. Mrs. English would be proud. Just having fun, now off to work on my Impala. Thank-Q
He sounds like a northerner but I agree, great, informative videos.
Definitely not a Texas accent.. just fyi
@@ALittleOG That's not an East Texas accent? Thanks for clarifying.
what are you using as paint prep?
classic video very funny with the humor and informative.
TheParajoe I used to use 6 inch with my porter cable but I started using 5.5 and I prefer them but I don't know the speed settings to your da but mine goes up to 6 and I think that's like 3600rpm or something but I never max it,I spread product at speeds 3 and 4 and then compound and polish at 5. 6 honestly makes me feel like it'll go nuts but I use scholls concepts s20 black and i start heavy and do a couple passes maybe and then go light over it and usually it's perfect after but sometimes on a black car you'll see 1 or two swirls but I'm trying to figure it out,but the m105 I haven't used with a da I used it for a rotary to buff the rough stuff out and then finish up with a da,I don't think that helped too much but I'm hoping it did
how do you clean up the dusting after a 2x2? just paint prep? isnt using too much paint prep bad?
Hey Scott, great video, really enjoyed it. Quick question, for the compounding phase, do you do the whole car to make everything even, or do you just hit the trouble spots?
Scott, do you ever use M100? I'm hearing it finishes better than 105 and is easier to deal with.
Way better imo
I spend too much time dealing with it,
Japanese black paint is a disaster for me
The title said "plus TIPS for amazing results on black. I didn't expect it to be the FIRST thing we would see.
Nice video sir!!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Finally!! You remind me of Tim Allen’s neighbor on home improvement who never showed his face! I just started watching your videos and you were always hidden and now revealed hahaha JK! Thanks for all your tips. I’m learning so much!! I appreciate your videos.
thanks man I'm just learning detailing myself your videos are good thanks!
Curious about how to handle a more irregular surface, like a bumper, or the valleys in that hood.
Hey man, you must be making waves, already got haters watching you..
I've been painting cars for years, and I didn't know that 3M own Meguiers, and I really couldn't care.
Good one Scott.
Thanks Scott we love u👍👍👍👍👍👍
Scott
First video I've seen with your face lol. Are you sure you're not a ganster and the detailing is your front. Lol lol
Your videos are top shelf - some of the best UA-cam has to offer.
Awesome class, thank you...
Just found out why you shut off machine before lifting from the panel, plus it was the HF pad.
Awesome video
How do I apply this to my debadged harley for a first timer at this
I got the torax kit from CG with their 4 v sys
Want to do a ceramic
Any tips it's a black street glide
Just reviewing some of your great tutorial videos.
Miss the teacher.
"I'm just going to put a couple dots"....then proceeds to put 22 dot on the pad.
Scott, if you stll reads your email, is duplicolor grease and wax remover the same as paint prep?
Very nice video! Is your paint prep you were referring to a wax and grease remover?
yes..its dupli color grease and wax remover and its about 8.99 for 32oz
Could you try hex logic pads with Koch Chemie? Would love to see you try those 😉 and btw thats what i use and i cant get this result with yellow hex logic pads and koch chemie H9 :/ with 4 pea size dots and like a 2 by 2 and not taking all scratches off 😓😓 idk how you do it if you can give me advice would love it
Did you regrease your HF polisher? I just got one and it’s ear piercing loud :(
Does it have to be distilled water to wet the pad or just water in general.
Scott you’re a good man can you do one on a charcoal gray hood a car that’s the color of my vehicle and it’s a 2012 but I want to get that brand new glass shine back to it
M105 has great cutting ability, and great dusting ability. :) Lol
Trent Hallmark what's so funny Trent?
So I simply mixed them together at 2/3 105 and 1/3 205 and got those longer working times I was after.
so Yvan recommended you power wash before using onr?
