The moment that kills me is when Forrest asks is little Forrest is like him, you realize he's known what he is this whole time and it never stopped him, he was just scared of what it would mean for his child. I cry every time.
I cried every time this part comes up. Every time.
I was coming to say the same thing.

Exactly, that's pretty clear by Forrest's reaction when Jenny tells him that he's Forrest Jr.'s father
I feel this more than anything. Hearing loss runs in my family, primarily on the male side. My dad has it, I have it, my son has it. I recently had a second son, and when he passed his hearing test in the hospital I broke down because I knew how hard it can be and I knew how hard it is for my 1st son to deal with and I was just happy he (hopefully) won't have those issues. It's no guarantee he won't have some issues down the road, but it's a glimmer of hope!
One of my favorite little details is that lieutenant Dan didn't only got new legs, he got a new mindset. He got over his selfdoubt and was now a new man. And the little detail that he even got a Vietnamese woman as his fiance shows how much he moved on. No more hate, just love and being content with life. Incredible movie.

Also told said the day he becomes a fisherman is the day he becomes an astronaut... or something alone those lines. And then later he has legs using metal that nasa uses in spaceships.

Forrest Gump is a masterpiece.
Jenny always gave Forrest advice to run because that is how she learned to handle life. She was always running, always trying to escape her life.
Jenny always felt unworthy of Forrest. She wanted Forrest to move on and find someone better. Having Forrest Jr. was the one thing she could not run away from. It helped her see life in a completely different way.
Being a parent sure does change you.
Exactly! When she tells him to stay away from her I hear so much fear in her voice, like she knew she was self-destructing & didn’t want him anywhere near her. And honestly it was probably for the best. She was never emotionally ready to be with Forrest until the end.

The creators of this movie originally wanted the boy who played young Forrest to learn how to talk like Tom Hanks was going to for the movie but Hanks said “why don’t I just learn to talk like him?” He spent a lot of time with the boy and mastered his natural accent and that is how the voice of Forrest Gump was created.

I remember being younger and always thinking that Jenny was so stupid. But then i got older and learned more about the psychological effect childhood abuse and traume can cause, and that her choice in boyfriends makes sense considering where she came from. So now i see her less as a idiot and i instead feel sorry for her.
When my brother and i reached high school and started having serious gfs, she sat us down and told us the story how she was raped as a teen and she hopes we turn out to be "good" men. I knew exactly Jenny was going to bounce in every other direction with unlimited energy.

I want to be VERY clear, You are completely correct. It is so sad and understandable.
However, its easy to blame her dad, which he was 100% at fault, however he likely ALSO experienced abuse, most abusers are victims of abuse. at some point we also must hold adults, Jenny in this case, accountable for their actions, with history in mind and compassion, but also expecting them to take responsibility and ownership.
Was Jenny's arc horrific, sad, and understandable? Yes
Was what Jenny did to Forest also bad and hurtful repeatedly, especially in light of him clearly being high functioning but autistic with little understanding of autism for the time? Yes.
We must work to break the cycle and part of that is allowing and encouraging responsibility and ownership.
The real tragedy is that Forrest is exactly the partner that she needed to heal and be happy, but she cared about him too much to want to inflict her struggles and baggage on him. So instead she settled for the types of men that she didn't think were too good for her, and ended up in a vicious cycle reflecting her own childhood. I always felt sorry for her, but it's a small comfort that she finally chose to let Forrest in before she died. If she hadn't had a kid with him, she probably never would have.
It is easy to blame her father because those are the facts we are given. But you are right we don't know his backstory either but still what he did is wrong from what we have. @@espygaming5101
The feather has two meanings. Jenny, wanting to be a bird. Also, the fact the feather was floating around randomly, but still fell at Forrest’s feet shows exactly what Forrest was saying at the end about destiny.

Doesn't matter if she went through trauma. People's pasts may show you why they behave a certain way, but it doesn't excuse how they act.
She was an adult, entirely capable of making her own decisions, and she chose to be a shitty person.
The end of this movie is so amazing. The way Forrest asks if his son was like him always gets me. Then you get hit with a curveball with Jenny saying she was sick. Lt Dan getting new legs. Man so much happened at the end. And to top it off Jenny's speech and then her passing away, then Forrest's speech. This movie really hits you in the feels in so many different ways.
I always tear up at him asking if little Forrest is like him. The way his face looks when he says this and the broken voice of it being something hard for him to say…. It just conveys so much into just a second of time.
I don’t care how many times I see reactors or when I watch this movie myself, when forest says “I miss you Jenny,” I get very emotional. 38:28
Growing up is realizing that Jenny wasn't a horrible person, but dealing with trauma.
She was raised by an abusive parent and like a lot of people that go through that she associated abuse with love and gravitated towards such relationships, and at the same time they avoid healthy relationships because they find them unfamiliar and scary. It's actually a really common thing how we seek what we're used to, even if it's bad.
I actually had an on-again off-again relationship much like Forrest and Jenny for many years and it wasn't until I understood this part of human psychology that her behavior made sense to me.
People don't really acknowledge, perhaps even realize it, but Lt. Dan's fiancée being Vietnamese is a nice touch.
This man is incapable of a making a bad movie, all the way back to the 80's. Even when he plays a "local idiot" Tom Hanks is absolutely brilliant. My Mom looked exactly like Sally Fields when we were kids and thought she had a secret film career. I sincerely cried when she died. And that's all I've got to say about that.

When he says his son is the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen, and asks if he’s smart, because he’s worried about him having the same issues as him…as a father to the most beautiful 3 year old son I could ask for, and someone who already sees him having similar issues with overwhelming anxiety that I have…it makes me cry…every…single…god damn time.
It´s heart breaking because at that point you realize how self aware he actually is. Tom Hanks is my all time favourite actor. I´ve been following him since I watched big at like 7 years old and he is brillant in every single one of his performances. This one and Philadelfia are probably his best ones

That precise moment when when he realizes that is his son, the subtlest shifts he see in his face and posture, that is why Tom Hanks is and will always be the GOAT.
On a more dower note. As a survivor of non stop abuse in EVERY WAY IMAGINABLE, the reason why Jenny was frightened to the brink on being terrified of real happiness is indeed rooted in her abusive past with her pedo dad. She believed whole heartedly that she would never be deserving of real love due to the perceived notion that "used goods" that she was, she would never be attractive to the best of men. She always thought that she was never going to be good enough for Forrest as a romantic partnership. No matter how many times he kept on telling her otherwise. But he was always been the only one to always put her happiness above his by keeping her in the know that she was still her own person whom has autonomy. And like Jenny, I found my own Forrest in my loving, perfect hubby of 17 years. And like Forrest, he was my handyman by fixing my shattered heart and helped rescue my soul in the process. I still cry at this film now for a different reason. And that is that I now have a love story like this one, with one slight difference. I am still alive and kicking.
Thank you for sharing this, as someone who has survived their own set of abuse and feeling trapped, and is fixing it with my loving partner, this gives me comfort seeing the light that is waiting for both me and my partner of four years when we have both come to terms and mended each other. It is nice to read about people who have made it through, makes me remember I am doing right by staying by her side and allowing her to heal my young heart. I am sure, or at least hope, she would say the same about me, even if I do drive her nuts asking why I am worthy of such a bright star being in my life. She likes to remind me why I am the one guy she has worth her love.

In the same breath you say "that's the cycle of abuse" and then ask Jenny "what's your issue". That encapsulates a problem in many modern reactions to this movie... she IS the cycle of abuse and the cycle of abuse is what's wrong with her. Forest is the ONLY person who actually shows her the empathy she deserves, still to this day.
Goes beyond "modern reactions." So many people from the decade it came out continue to shit on Jenny despite all the information on trauma and abuse, especially before age 5, that we are now privy to.

It's not very common for a movie to be better than the book it is based on, but this is definitely one of them. It was beautifully done.
I forgot how flawless this movie was! Tom Hanks is just perfect in this role. That ending slays my feelings each time. And with Jenny, you want to dislike her for how she treats Forrest until you remember her childhood and what came from the abuse. The story, the characters, the pacing and of course the message make this one of the best movie ever!
I could never hate Jenny, because I could only see her through Forrest’s eyes.
I've always felt that Jenny kept pushing forrest away because she had such a low self-image or something like that due to her childhood, and every time she was given an opportunity of good life and happiness, she pushed it away as she didn't think she deserved it or that it was going to fall apart if she accepted it. That's why she always shacked up with abusive or dodgy people. She was, like she said, "messed up for a long time." I hate when people say she was a bad person in this movie.

We accept the love we think we deserve. Jenny never felt like she deserved Forrest's love, that's why she kept running away from him for so long.
Very few movies bring me to tears multiple times every single damn time I watch it. Extremely well written, and Tom Hanks absolutely crushes every second he is on screen. It's so simple and sincere.
I always feel bad for the reactions Jenny gets....her character really tried to shine a light on one of the many psychological effects of that type of abuse can have on a persons decisions in life. The feeling that she has that she is worthless and not deserving. Her deep fear and emotions of being used and abused. How she bottled it up and dealt with it as a child then continued bottling up as an adult, at a time when there wasn't alot of help and/or mental help for women or girls in her position. Yes Forrest got turned away at every chance but he kept on. Maybe because he knew deep down the scars she had and did not hold her flaws against her, in his innocent supporting way. If things would have just been peachy between them it wouldn't be true to the real aftermath and lasting effects of that type of abuse.
I'm still pissed at that dumbass MoviesInDepth for foolishly bashing Jenny like a heartless asswipe. Even Family Guy stupidly and in the most shallow way possible insulted and ostracized Jenny so more idiots can mock a character with real trauma.
It's so obvious that Jenny truly does love Forrest, she keeps pushing him away because she feels like she doesn't deserve him and she doesn't want to "ruin" him.
Childhood trauma especially m0lestation is incredibly hard to live through. It can affect your adult life tremendously without some people realizing it before their trauma starts to manifest in harmful ways to themselves or others.
My dad and me watched this movie together many times, and he also watched it many many times by himself over the years. He truly loved the film, and would laugh at the same spots every time, quoting Forrest, Bubba and Lt. Dan's best lines in unison with the characters when the lines came up. He must have watched it at least once or twice a month for over ten years. Now he is mostly gone due to Alzheimer's, and every time I see this movie, I think of him, and I appreciate the underlying meaning of the movie even more.
Fun fact: It doesn't show in the credits, but Elvis (at least the voice) was Kurt Russell.

The irony of Jenny telling Forrest he doesn't know what love is, is that Jenny herself has a warped perception of what love should feel like.
I thank you for being understanding of her towards the end, and even before that - it seems you understood that your opinion of Jenny isn't the point, and you were able to feel touched by how Forrest felt for her. So many people just hate on her intesnely and don't understand why Forrest is so attached to her. They're stuck on the thought the "he's too good for her" (tho if you ask me, Forrest is too good for the WORLD), but Forrest himself never thinks that. He just loves her for who she is when she's with him.
Too many women that grow up with abusive fathers live lives like Jenny.
There is such a powerful message of destiny in this movie. Alex figured it out perfectly. Forrest allowed his destiny to just happen. Jenny believed her destiny was that she wasn't worthy of love and only deserved bad men, so she pigeonholed herself into that. Trauma does that to people. You're right she does get a lot of hate, and if people are actually understanding the message of the movie, I can't understand why.
People miss the whole point of this movie. Forrest doesn’t just love Jenny. He loves her *unconditionally.* No matter what.
While all of us are capable of loving, few can love like Forrest does.
People hate on Forrest for forgiving Jenny, because that highlights their own shortcomings.
Jenny’s story is honestly so tragic. It’s sad, but people who are abused as kids often go back to the same kind of treatment over and over all their life, by their own choice. It messes them up so much psychology.
@cosas_de_gatos but forest was abused as well in a different way his whole life, forest had so many issue growing up but look at his outcome and his life? in a way it shows what happens when u overcome and what when u allow yourself to be consumed. bad starts don't always have to lead to bad outcomes
jenny always had forest there for support unconditional no matter what but made a lot of bad choices and ended up getting taken advantage of - kinda the position women have in society where there's always support for them and good men but they often (for whatever reason) turn to the bad

that's what makes the movie rather good, the realism and relatabiltiy of it all. it mirrors real issues in life well but overall has a positive message
“You need to leave her Forest. She doesn’t deserve you.” … Exactly. Jenny has spent her whole life being sexually abused by men. That can really mess up a person’s self worth. Jenny pushes Forest away because 1. She feels like no matter what, it is her fate to just be abused, so don’t exhaust yourself trying to fight it and 2. She feels as if she, by the nature of being used, has less worth and that a good guy like Forest deserves someone better. The beauty of Forest and his love is that he doesn’t let small transgressions or flaws stop him from being kind and loving to everyone, and he is devoted to always being there for his loved ones.
I love the fact that Alex didn´t hate her (as most people do) but understood she was a victim of her past and made all those terrible life choices because of what happened to her, including trying to push Forrest away, because she thougth she was bad for him, until by the end of her path, she understands he is the best one to be her kid´s dad.

Not only does he have compassion for Jenny, but he can also see the patterns behind just what we see on-screen. A lot of reactors never actually think about *_why_* what's happening in the movie is happening...
There are few scenes from movies that can make me cry...but guaranteed EVERY TIME...when Forrest asks if little Forrest is like him or if he's smart! I want to cry just typing this! Great reaction!

I've seen a lot of reaction videos on this movie and you are one of the VERY few that take into account what happened to Jenny as a child . Most seem to just get mad at her and don't consider her childhood . Also , nice production on the video , well done Sir !

This really is the perfect flick. There's something for every film lover, & that broad appeal is, IMO, the reason why it's so beloved. It has powerful emotional impact & drama, wonderful humor, & even incredible action scenes.
And this came out the same year as two other perfect flicks. The Shawshank Redemption and Pulp Fiction.

I had gone through a rough few years recently but about a year ago I finally decided to put effort into working on my issues and even tho I still struggle with things here and there I’m out here living my best life and having fun

The part of the movie that always gets me is that Forrest and Jenny represent two different paths that people can take. Both are victims of circumstance. Jenny allows her past and trauma to influence her life and lead her down a destructive path filled with more pain, loneliness and selfishness. While Forrest who is also a victim of his circumstances and in many cases WORSE off then Jenny never lets life determine his course. He stays true to himself, his morals, his own code. He experiences loss, hate, trauma, fame, fortune, and never does he EVER let it change who he is.
Even when the woman he loves sleeps with him and abandons him, when she waits YEARS to tell him that he is a father, Forrest's first thoughts after being told were not:
"How could you not tell me" but instead it was simply "Is he smart or is he like me"
Forrest Gump truly is the embodiment of what we should all strive to be in life, someone who can weather each and every storm and still be smiling at the end of it.
Be curious not judgmental. That is Forrest.
I'm so happy to see you watch this and still totally get Jenny's character. There are so many youtubers who react to this and immediately villainize her for rejecting Forrest or accuse her of using him. She never was obligated to be with Forrest, and some people just refuse to try and understand that her actions all stem from her abusive trauma at such a young age. Jenny is actually the one who's never "known what love is" so she fails to recognize it in Forrest and tries to find it the only way she's been taught from her father. It's not until she becomes a mother that she truly learns what love means, finally sees her own worth and accepts the love Forrest has always had for her.

Hey hillarymead, I agree! Forrest Gump is a movie that when I saw it at a younger age, I did Not understand how Jenny was also "running" but Not in the literal sense like Forrest did. I guess the contrast between Jenny's path and Forrest's path is what makes this story so special! For myself, I often feel that I connect with this movie because my brother has Autism and Developmental Disorder (So he can relate a bit with Forrest since they are both disabled).
I also just wanted to mention that I actually posted a video on my UA-cam channel that is almost like a tribute video to Forrest Gump (though I called it a Mashup). You see, there's a band named Family Of The Year, and they used their hit song "Hero" for Richard Linklater's 2014 movie called Boyhood. For my video, I used "Hero" as background music while showing various scenes from Forrest Gump.

I see her as a victim, as such she needed help.without help she acts out, takes drugs, bad relationships etc. until she became pregnant which appears to have calmed her, then she gets sick, probably AIDS and dies. Pretty sad life.

I’ve watched a lot of Forrest Gump reactions and I just want to say this…
Thanks for staying “on brand” and being yourself. I squally get teary eyed watching these reactions (it’s a top 5 movie for me) but I laughed so much during this and honestly it was a welcomed change to the usual reactions.

Come on Alex!! You seeing the victim in Jenny is everything! Any male reactors I've watched dog Jenny so much and never remember her trauma. Viewers are so connected to Forrest they forget that just as much as this story is about him its honrstly equally about Jenny as well. We follow her life just like we follow Forrest's.
I've seen a ton of women rail against Jenny too, unfortunately.
I have seen many rail against her too. and it is hard to be nuanced online but there IS reason to rail against her. there is ALSO reason to sympathize and be compassionate.
Her trauma does not justify her treatment to Forest, it just explains why it may have happened, Just like most abusive parents come from abusive homes. It doesn't justify their actions, but instead explains why they behave that way and can give great understanding.
Two things can be true at once. We should have incredible compassion and empathy for Jenny and we can also despise her treatment of Forest and hold her responsible for her actions. as much as you can for a fictional character I guess... XD
@espygaming5101 Showing compassion isn't necessarily justifying her actions. No one is saying her actions towards Forrest are justified it's just hard to rail on someone who's had such a fucked up life. Imo.
You can tell by her actions that she tries to keep Forrest away from her, because she's destructive and doesn't want to burden him. I'd never rail against someone who's been through so much without any adult help her entire life.
Plus the only thing Jenny did to Forrest was leave him. She never talked down to him, belittled or treated him like he was stupid etc.
@@espygaming5101Jenny hasn’t abused Forrest when he was a child. How can you compare this. Someone who is self destructive like her; she was suicidal, drugs, trauma relationship cycle. The best thing she could do for other’s (Forrest), was to stay away and learn to live, develop. What she did. Forrest had enough heart to love her. That’s all that matters. If treating Forrest unfairly then why don’t you complain about Lieutenant Dan who was absolutely aggressive to Forrest, but nobody complains about that. Although Dan was a grown man when he had his traumatic event. Jenny on the other side has suffered a developmental trauma (that can lead to lasting changes in the brain). Dan doesn’t get half the negativity, when he behaves rude and shows his trauma symptoms, because he is a man.
@mclovin7375 I agree that Lt Dan was also shitty to Forest. I have given him the same treatment. I was not making a direct comparison of her abusing forest and I have a TON of compassion for her. I work as a paramedic and deal with abuse and mental illness all the time. Nothing I said was meant in malice. It is just an honest assessment and often people with such trauma and destructive habits need honest and should eventually take responsibility for their actions. She loved forest and didn't think she deserved his love it's terribly sad, and ultimately, her decisions in life, although sad, also left her husband and son to go on without her. Making it all the more tragic
I think it's one of the greatest stories ever told through a magnificent movie. Saw this in the theater when it came out. Must have watched it 10 times since. Gets me ever time. What a great production.
Such a fantastic movie. So beautifully nuanced too. As much as she almost seems like an antagonist at times, Jenny is a victim and doesn't feel she deserves someone as sweet and selfless as Forrest.
Tears well up every time I see Lt Dan with his new legs. I just get so damn proud of these fictional characters

When I was 13 I broke both of my legs. While I was laid up in bed for 3 months, I watched this movie and immediately fell in love with Lieutenant Dan. That was my nickname for a couple years after that and I loved it. His story hits me in my feels every time.
Absolutely agree with you that this is a phenomenal filled and has to be watched by everybody at least once. Tom Hanks said he forged his character around the personality of the little boy who plays little Forest. The voice and mannerisms he said was spot-on to how he actually talked and behaved. Also it always kind of makes me wonder how this movie would have turned out if they had gone with the original actor which was John Travolta. Tom Hanks is a phenomenal actor to be sure
"Little Forrest" in this case being Forrest when he was a kid with the braces, not his son lol. Just clarifying, because Forrest calls his son Little Forrest at one point
Jenny becomes a lot more likeable when you really dive into why she makes the choices she does and the warped perception of love she has.
Every time I see it I just want to grab her and tell her "It wasn't your fault. You deserve to be happy. You deserve Forest, don't leave, be brave! Stop running!"
I wouldn't say "likeable" but definitely more understandable.
This is such a classic, I will always watch to the end no matter where I come into the movie, just like Shawshank. I swear the 90’s had the best movies. Forest talking to Jenny’s grave wrecks me every time. 😢 another absolute classic I think you’d enjoy is Dances With Wolves, hopefully you get to it, absolutely worth it!
Jenny’s story is honestly so tragic. It’s sad, but people who are abused as kids often go back to the same kind of treatment over and over all their life, by their own choice. It messes them up so much psychology. I’m glad she found some peace before she died. And the scene where the birds fly away, signifying her finally being free made me bawl. Agh it’s so sad

This has got to be my favorite movie ever. When I watched as a kid, even though I understood none of the psychology behind the movie, I loved the history and it kept me captivated. When/as I got older I understood the deeper meaning and still after watching at least 40 times, I cry every time. I also notice different things so thats pretty amazing ❤
Too many people judge Jenny too harshly. She was damaged from the time she was a kid. She thought she didn't deserve to be happy. So, every time she felt that with Forrest, she ran away from it. Sure, it's not fair to Forrest, but it's not really her fault. In the end, she did finally realize it, unfortunately too late.
My older brother and I use to scream at each other *”Lieutenant Dan!!! ICE CREAM”* at each other. One of my favorite childhood memories. Don’t know what started it but it was the funniest thing to me.

I know her because my mother told me that she used to listen to her, hidding her records, since most of them were protest songs and were banned in my country. I´m from Argentina and in those times, we had a militar dictatorship (very dark times with many people who was taken, killed and dissapeared to this date) and one day his dad, my grandpa, who was a policeman found them and burnt them all, because he pannicked about somebody finding them or her having them.
Meanwhile, I'm thinking she should've said Emmylou Harris, since she's also from Alabama.😂
Its called a repetition compulsion what Jenny does. Your brain cant handle all that trauma at once. It lays half dorment and you repeat the trauma over and over again untill you can process it. This is one of the best movies to represent what extreme childhood abuse does to a human. Its not on her.
My mom passed away from cancer this year, and this movie just hit different this time around. It hit me hard. I miss you mom 😔

I still remember the first time I ever saw this; I was in Springfield, Massachusetts for a basketball thing for my brother, and we watched this and Shawshank back-to-back in the hotel room. What a fucking epic movie night that was.

Forrest's talk with Jenny at the end always turns me into a snotty, sobbing mess. Such a great movie.
This is one of those classics you have to have on a bucketlist. If you watched it as a kid you have to watch it again, because it's amazing how much a kid's view versus and adult's view makes you understand this film. It is a classic that is golden and with all the remakes being done, hollywood better not even think of trying to make a remake of this beautiful film.
Hey forestcatkay14! I think Forrest Gump does a fantastic job at balancing many genres of film (Drama, Comedy, Romance, "Coming-Of-Age", War Film, etc...) altogether in 1 movie! The performances are also VERY good, especially from Tom Hanks (and Gary Sinise as Lt. Dan is my other favorite performance). For myself, I often connect with this movie because my brother has Autism and Developmental Disorder (So he can relate a bit with Forrest since they are both disabled).
I also just wanted to mention that I actually posted a video on my UA-cam channel that is almost like a tribute video to Forrest Gump (though I called it a Mashup). You see, there's a band named Family Of The Year, and they used their hit song "Hero" for Richard Linklater's 2014 movie called Boyhood. For my video, I used "Hero" as background music while showing various scenes from Forrest Gump.

Can honestly say I wasn’t expecting VPL five seconds into a Forrest Gump reaction, but that’s more of a neutral observation than a complaint.
There are two Back to the Future Easter eggs in this movie. The first is the opening music by Alan Silvestri, the same guy who does most of Robert Zemeckis' soundtracks, including Back to the Future. It is a slight variation on the music that plays near the beginning of Back to the Future part 3 when Marty drives Doc back to his mansion and they're all asleep by the fireplace. The second is at 29:16 when Forrest is at his mailbox. The mailbox next to his says "D.L. Jones" on it. This is the same name as the guy who owns the manure truck that Biff and his gang crash into in the first Back to the Future movie.
The special effects in this are great because they are hidden, like erasing Lt. Dan's legs. Anyway, if you want to see what went into getting this movie made, not just the actual behind the scenes stuff, I highly recommend the "Forrest Gump" episode of the Netflix series, "The Movies That Made Us". In fact the whole series is excellent. They have an episode on "Back to the Future" too.

For a movie with such a nice message, its amazing how dark and "problematic" this movie actually is when you dig into it. Especially into all of Forest's accomplishments. Sometimes its better to just sit back and not think to deeply about it.
Every time. The scene where Little Forrest wrote his mom a letter, every damn time that's the one that hits me like a bus. Because sadly, I've been that kid. And my dad had to be Big Forrest, being as strong as he could for me and my brother after that. Like you said, it makes you feel blessed to have the people you have in your life.

When she told Forrest "you don't know what love is", what she really meant was "I don't know what love is." She tells him to run if he's in trouble because that's her coping mechanism.

Ya dropped the ball on this one Alex. Jenny's 'issue' was her abused childhood. Her father's rapes and abusive home life damaged her beyond help. She felt unworthy for the pure love of Forrest...and unworthy of happiness. Being fucked up and unable to find the way to love and happiness for so long was NOT her fault. And especially in those days...women had no other recourse or hope. 😓
