For anyone else following along on newer Blender versions: - The hair root, tip, and diameter settings are under a category called "Hair Shape" - For the material, there is no "Hair Info" node, but you can use a "Curves Info" one
Hey man! Loved the video! I learned how to make carpets from you in this tutorial, but something I discovered is that instead of turning up the hair count super high, you can actually go underneath the “Children” tab and select “Interpolated”. What this does is it places X amount of hairs randomly for every initial hair. The nice thing about it is that: The “child” hairs interpret traits from the surrounding hairs based on their distance from them in a gradual manner, which looks more realistic because of how carpets are usually matted down in patterns (since objects that stand/walk on them are usually wider than a single carpet strand). Second, child trait let’s you use different quantities of hairs in the preview and the final render, meaning that you can make finer adjustments while finding your desired hair material and look without having to change it during static renders. Thanks again for the video!
7:12 In Blender 3.0, entering 10% for the Viewport Display will display only 10% of your carpet, etc. (i.e. one edge section, not 10% distributed throughout the surface).
I'm new at blender. So, I'm able to figure things out, but I feel like some things should be mentioned for beginners. I had to look around for edit mode (found it). And how did you add the loop cut that way? After pressing control-R, I had to click one at a time after seeing a line appear. Clicking and dragging didn't work. What did you do?
I had the same problem. In top of the window you have default then Scene and then a tab "Blender Render". Click on it and select "Cycles Render" instead. The missing setting will appear.
Hey mate! Thanks for the video, it's a great tutorial! - One question though, WHY did we use the displacement? The hair particles do what they do, what about the displacement; was there a need for it? I don't really get it's use here.
Displacement creates surface imperfections on the carpet, which reflects on the surface once you place the strands. You can also add randomness to the particle system and create an even better effect. This was my take on it: imgur.com/a/ThDQisp you can see subtle waviness on the top of the strands. That's what displacement modifier does.
For some reason the hair shows up as the object mode strands (the little thin white lines) when I'm in render mode. *Edit: Also in the node editor for the carpet texture, I can't find the 'Hair Input' Output.*
I had the same problem. In top of the window you have default then Scene and then a tab "Blender Render". Click on it and select "Cycles Render" instead. The missing setting will appear.
Thank you, your tutorial taught me some great things!! Honestly, I never used the hair info before...like I just didn't notice it there. Ha ha! I'm gonna try also randomizing particles with Hair Info (said object by mistake). I've always found that fun. XD
for some reason you nee do turn on the advanced settings button under the hair button in the Particles tab to show up. And the Cycles Hair, I think that is now in the Hair Shape tab. Hope this helps
Nice tutorial it works ver well! I exported the carpet to a obj file and when I open the obj file in my rendering software I can not see the hair... how can i fix it? I Tryed export to 3ds, FBX and it does not takes out the hair on the exporting process
You need to convert the particles to a mesh before exporting. If you are uncertain about doing this just do a quick google search and you should find it easily.
Would be way more helpful if you mention the names of the sections instead of just saying "go here, go there". Assuming you've probably corrected this in your future tutorials.

Glorious tutorial, comrade! Very helpful.

I only selected the top faces for my vertex group, yet around the edges of the rug there are some hairs that fold around and down the edges. :\

guys do you know where is CYCLES HAIR SETTINGS in Blender 2.8 ?

If you set the particle system's children setting to interpolated and the amount to 10, you'll get even better and more realistic result :D
At 4:08 my hair comes out on the blue side, not the red side of the mesh...?
You will need to flip the normals of your geometry in edit mode. Select everything, press spacebar to bring up the search, and type in "flip normals".
@@TylerDane thank you, almost gave up!
I don't have the "Cycles Hair Settings" option on my version of Blender.
it now has a new name "Hair Shape"

Awesome
Thanks
Not too bad ;p. Thanks for this tuto. it will be better to see this carpet on real room, but it's great.
it now has a new name "Hair Shape"
You can subdivide them by subdividing after selecting only the top face.
Ayush Srivastava this will create ngons though....
ok thanks for the tip........i'm a beginner
i think the best way would be to subdivide the plane before extruding the thiccnes
thank you so much
Why not use children, would it help the render time?
Not too bad!
I can't find the Cycles Hair Settings or Physical properties, I'm in I think blender 2.8

guys do you know where is PARTICLE SYSTEM in Blender 2.8?
i’m using 2.9 and i found it in modifiers
You need to turn on Advanced Settings under the Hair button to make it apear

@@BlenderMadeEasy I did that also on the modifiers tab press "CONVERT" and I was not able to import the mesh to unity as well

today I learned: ? the carpet and the rug are to different things ?
I actually counted 35 loop cuts
My strands of carpet were just very skinny lines no matter what I did
did you look at it in rendered view with cycles as your render engine?
@@jamesmudge8419 yes could be the different version of blender
Hey man, can you make a soccer stadium pitch? I can pay you, please help me
It is Cycles :/
