Had the privilege of training with this great inspirational man on many occasions. My fondest memory is of him walking the line as we trained, he came to me and paused, looking at me he said 'text book' I have never felt more proud in my life. He will be sorely missed but his legacy will live on. Oss Sensei.
Dear Sir, Many thanks Sir, for posting this video on Master Kanazawa. May he rest in peace for all the good he had done for Karate and mankind. Paul,67, retired instructor of Karate.
I had the privilege of training with and hosting this amazing man many times. My favorite moments were not his absolute mastery on the floor, which was undeniable, but his sense of humour, his humanity, and his palpable sense of giving to life. May he find honor and grace in his onward journey.
I had the deep honor, one time, to be taught by Kanazawa Sensei, during his visit to a remote village in Lincolnshire, UK. As a twenty year old brown belt I was awestruck to be in the presence of a legend. As a 58 year old man I am still awestruck. Domo Arigato Sensei.
Trained under him many times. An absolute gentleman warrior. A true Samurai. Interestingly he remained JKA to his boots despite being the founder and leader of SKI. He was so open to different styles and influences. He even incorporated kundalini yoga practice into his training. A legend and a genius. Oss Shihan
Mr. Kanazawa shall be very much missed. He has been a true contributor to the Ancient Art. We are more than grateful as well as privileged to have benefitted by his selfless instruction and guidance. He is assured his rightful place in history. We honor his memory and he shall always remain present in our hearts and minds. Thank you, Mr. K.
I feel so emotional watching this wonderful tribute video, thanks for sharing. Legend is a word used too loosely these days but totally appropriate for O-Sensei Hirokazu Kanazawa. A pioneer who helped launch Shotokan Karate globally and who I had the honour of being taught by in HK in 1999. My Sensei, Dr. Clive Layton wrote his biography and when I mentioned I was his student visiting from London he broke into his famous smile and warmly shook my hand. A gentleman who "walked the walk" RIP and Oss !
@@andrewm2399 i met him when a was 6 year old, he was the tallest Japanese i ever seen and the strongest warrior, he impressed me when he beated 5 or 6 black belt. He was like a tiger. His son is like he used to be, impressive and strong. Greetings from Chihuahua Mexico
I trained with Sensei Kanazawa a few times. I never really believed in the spirituality of karate, a punch was a punch a kick was a kick and it was blood and sweat. The only person I ever trained with that made me feel different was him. He was in his 60s i guess then, but even then he seemed magical he seemed very different. I know I probably havnt explained how I felt very well.
I, like many of you, had the honor of training with this true Master. His technique was as perfect as humanly possible, but what struck me the most was his true humility and his absolute caring for his students growth in the study of Shotokan Karate. Oss ! Sensei
As the last surviving exponent of the founder Funokoshi, his disciples will continue the legacy. Such dedication is monumental in this continuation and is shown in the comments of this video. I learned so much over the years and at 70 years old now “somewhat” understand this depth of his “real” teaching. Never stop learning and search the inner side of this martial art as the search never ends....
He taught my sensei who is a 5th dan black belt in shotokan and i am learning from my sensei it feels privilege to train under him traditional karate in its purest form May master Kanazawa rest in peace
Although I never had the honor of training in any of his classes, Kanazawa Sensei was an inspiration to my study of martial arts. Rest in Peace Sensei. Your legacy will live on.
I trained under him many years ago. He did our gradings. The demos with Sensie Asano were amazing. He autographed his book for me. RIP Sensie Kanazawa.
Trained with him in Dunblane many years ago he had this great presence and I has the great honour to demonstrate with him for most of the day the ledgend so often over used but not for this great man R. I. P. Sensei
Merci pour cette belle video , respect à cet homme qui a partagé son chemin du karaté ,il fait parti de nos sages,Tu seras toujours là...A nous aider.Merci Sensei. Philippe France.
This video made me sad, and happy at the same time. I started practicing Shotokan in 2000 when I was 9, but had to stop years later, due to bad knees. I ended the journey after recieving my 3rd kuy,- wish I've had been able to go a bit further and claim the 1st Dan. I always took pride in watching Kanazawa's UA-cam videos, doing the different Katas. Oss Sensei
Rest in peace Sensei. In 1977 I was 17 years old and you gave me my white belt and it changed my life forever. I still practice Karate Physically and Spiritually.
I was invited to train with him for a week when he was on a US tour, sometime in the 80's and it was at Dennis Loeb's studio in Hawthorne (?), CA. What an incredible honor! Rest in Peace!
Throughout all of my Karata Training, I always turn to Sihan Kanazawa's Kata videos. The gold standard as far as I'm concerned and it's helped me so much. Thankfully in this way he still teaches thousands of us to this day! OSS!

I not only had the honour of training under the man but grading for my first Dan under him, he was a fountain of knowledge and a true gentleman, sadly missed 😢😢
It would be nice to mention that he won All Japan Karate Championship, the very first one - in 1957...with a broken arm against Mikami sensei (I think) ... That was amazing on its own... My Japanese sensei from JKA/JKS, Masayoshi Katayama (R.I.P) , always said that Kanazawa and Asai senseis were the Pioneers and Giants of Modern Karate... even though they didn`t like each other too much... :)

Was he saying your technique was text book, or you needed to invest in a karate text book to better your technique?
