This is probably my favorite song. I can't help but dance around when I hear it. As a college radio dj of the 80s, the Cure was a huge part of my DJ life.

If you want to delve into the synth/new wave vibe Fascination Street off the Disintegration lp and The Forrest. If you want to brave stranger tides I sat Close to Me And Lullabye. But do Lullabye last before full albums because I don't want to scare you off

The Cure are one of my top 5 all time favourite bands.
You should really try a song from each album. Their early stuff is far different from their middle stuff, which is far different from their later stuff, which you guessed it, is far different than their current stuff lol. Head on the Door and Pornography are both darker, gothier albums. If you want playful, try Love Cats (song), super cute and playful. The Cure is so multifaceted, and talented, to really get a feel for them, you've gotta take the plunge.
I grew up on 60s and 70s rock, prog, blues, jazz and jazz fusion. I'm now heavily into Nightwish and Wintersun, but I adore The Cure. Always have and always will. Robert Smith is a great songwriter and poet. They still sound good live.

I think it's great that you're willing to touch on a broad spectrum of styles and genres - both as a person and as a reactor. That's what makes a channel like this interesting and fun, is seeing people stretch themselves and experience new things. Sure, you'll come across songs that you'd never give a second listen to - and some that you even hate. But there's so much great music out there in so many different genres, moods, eras etc. Why limit yourself? Really digging the channel.

I grew up on classic rock, metal, then hc punk and hip-hop. I never gave them a chance till my 40's and now I love them.
Salvo! One of my favorite alternative 80s rock songs! This is one of their more upbeat, lighter songs. They have a lot of much heavier, moodier songs. Very deep catalog of songs, and recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. A few of my favs: Close to You, Lovesong, Lullaby, The Walk, Let's Go to Bed, The Perfect Girl.
He and his wife have been together for 50 years and married for 35, as of 2023. He wrote this for her after a trip to the South of England, at the Beach. Lovesong was his wedding gift to her. Pictures of You he wrote after a house fire and he found pics of Mary in his wallet and rubble. Also, The Cure is going to be great no matter what song you pick. I've seen them 5 times over the past 4 decades and they are amazing every time.
They are amazing! A lot of great songs. They are great live. I have seen them twice and am planning on seeing them again in June. Boy's Don't Cry, Pictures of You, Lullaby, all are fantastic! You won't be disappointed with any of them.
There’s literally a dozen GREAT Cure songs that were popular. Across a few different moods, but always with great lyrics and a strong bass guitar underneath it all.
Seeing a young guy react to such great music from the past for the first time is a joy to watch. And I like that you learn a little bit about the songs before you hear them.

Yes, a totally 80s sound 😂 You should check out their song "Lovesong" and for a bit of fun "Love Cats". You nailed it when you said this song could have been played in a classic 80s movie like Sixteen Candles. A GenX classic band for sure!
It's so cool that you can have an appreciation for some of the big classic groups (Led Zeppelin and the Stones), and still like 80's synth-pop. You are my people.
The Cure is a new wave band from the 80's, maybe post-punk, but for me it's an alternative with a mix of indie music like Talking Heads, New Order or Siouxsie and the Banshees. It was a new wave and a vogue for something new, The Sisters of Mercy, Depeche Mode, The Psychedelic Furs, Japan, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and many others, I like this kind of music, although I am a fan of progressive rock, but the alternative kind of influenced for the further development of the rock music industry, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Nirvana, Rammstein and so on.

That’s the music I grew up with brother.. there isn’t a better decade than the different genres during the 80’s.. the cure are amongst my favorite to this day and I still blast these songs at my gatherings.. you’d be surprised at how much the youngsters love it..

Edward Scissorhands look was based off Robert Smith - as Tim Burton is a huge fan of The Cure. Also see, Sandman and The Crow which had influences from The Cure.
Oh - and if you listen to The Cure live around 1992 - they could definitely have moments of hard rock with their wall of sound, drop d, distortion filled sets. They do have a wide range of sounds.

Edward Scissorhands was based on Robert Smith (the Cure's lead singer) - that's how iconic the Cure are.
This is definitely one of the more pop sounding songs they did, you have to listen to their older stuff to really get them. Goth/new wave/alternative. Now you should go listen to Siouxsie & the Banshees “Kiss Them For Me”. The Cure is going on tour in the US in May, wish I could go see them.

I would listen to the Standing on a Beach collection of singles a ton when I was in the Army 90-91, loved the dreamy songs. There is a log of kind of "surf guitar" sounds in a lot what they play.

Dude, you do realize the song is about accidental or suicidal death, do you not? The wizardry of The Cure was to juxtapose the uptempo and upbeat sound of the music against the song's tragic lyrics. Its a masterpiece!

A Forest is definitely a good one to get a feel for their mood, but I agree on Just Like Heaven being a very accessible song for a first timer. If you follow South Park at all, you can tell that A Forest was probably the main inspiration for the music that the Goth Kids have playing on their stereo during their scenes in South Park.
