The Cure us one of the pillars that are the foundation of alternative rock along with Depeche Mode and Talking Heads and a few others. Robert Smith is the genius lead singer/ guitarist/ song writer. They are also part of the sub-genre of goth which is a precursor to emo. They have an endless supply of great songs. Here's a few: Friday I'm In Love, Boys Don't Cry, Fascination Street, Lovesong, Close to Me.

The lead singer Robert Smith is definitely a romantic, he married his high school sweetheart and they are still together after all this time. The Cure a definitely a band you can do a 'deep dive' into, they've been going a long time and have a massive list of classic tunes. Was lucky enough to see them play at Hyde Park in London a few years back, it was a one day music festival with four stages and a load of great bands hand picked by Robert himself, one of the best days of my life if I'm honest.

One of my favorite bands in the world. I can’t believe how amazing Robert’s voice still hits after all these years. I just watched a video of him from like 2020 and if I closed my eyes it sounded like an album cut. His voice hasn’t changed at all. Especially considering his contemporaries. Bono can’t sing at all anymore. His voice is fried. But Robert, despite being the same age and a singer for the same length of time sounds infinitely better. It’s insane.
The one thing him and Bono have in common is I think it’s fantastic they both are still married to the same girl they were with before they even started their career. That’s remarkable in *any* business. Let alone the music industry.

All solid in their own ways, totally agree... but Disintegration tears me apart.
They were my first real concert (that me and 3 other Army AIT students had to break regulations and leave our travel radius by a couple of states... to go see) and I've seen them twice more. If all goes well I'll see them again this October, got my tickets! 18 times, that's a wonderful collection of experiences I'm sure!!

This is the radio edit - take a listen to the much longer original album cut with the amazing instrumental intro. When you turn this one up loud on a good set of speakers, you can hear so many layers and nuances of sound that it blows your mind. Same is true for the whole album (Disintegration), one of the very best albums in rock history.

Just simply the best band to make dark subject matter sound so freaking good

    • @jaynagerber7474
      @jaynagerber7474 2 роки тому

What's interesting is that a lot of their songs are actually the other way around: sound dark, gloomy, or possibly depressing, but the actual subject matter is positive or upbeat (but very, very hard to tell that due to the sound of the music and Robert's delivery).
"Lovesong" is probably the best example of that; if you didn't listen to the lyrics carefully, you would probably think it was a breakup song!🤣

The edit that is played on this video is the short edit. The guitar intro on the album Disintegration as well as the live versions are much longer and really enrapture Roberts emotional expression. This was also regarded as a Radio edit due to the music company saying the intro was too long of which Robert Smith disagreed with.
The Drummer is Boris Williams, well regarded within the music industry. All i listen to is The Cure and have been doing so for the last 38 years.

Wow. I am so happy you liked the song. The Cure is probably one of the best bands I’ve ever heard and has the moat consistent output of quality music. They mean so much to me and seeing your reaction to the song made me recapture that feeling I had when I first heard it. There are MANY great songs from them you should check out. Too many to even suggest to you. They are all good. Most people would point you to Disintegration as the album to check out. But my personal favorite is Head On The Door. It doesn’t sound as coherent throughout as Disintegration. But it does give you an idea of the different sounds they are capable of. Thanks for the post. And hope to see you explore more of their music.

The Cure have been my favorite band before I knew who was doing those songs I heard and loved so much... then found out a couple years later.
When the album for this song came out... you could just lay down with a friend or on your own and listen... the entire album is gorgeous with some songs stronger/more to one's taste than others, but all high quality.
I've cried more than once to this and other songs on the album. Back then and now. It's a great album to grab a song or the entire thing and have one of those horrible-day/event cathartic bawling listening to.
Hell, on another account here on YT I have a reaction channel and I ran into a concert of theirs I'd never seen where they did an over-all favorite of mine called Disintegration that came from this album. I straight-up ugly-cried. Hell,, I sat in a hostel dayroom about 3 or 4 days ago and heard some of this album played on the overhead and had to stop what I was doing and had to control getting weepy at certain songs.
This one doesn't turn on the waterworks for me always, but it'll hit me at times - back then and now - but either way it always grabs me by the chest as just being for me achingly beautiful more than the sad factor.

Great video. The instrumentation is so on point - everyone brings their A-game. And I love how you commented on Robert's "do doo do doo do do-do-doo" stuff - he does that on quite a few of their tracks and it's it's always adorable.
Six Different Ways is a banger if you want something a bit more upbeat and poppy. They used it in the 2017 'It" movie - no spoilers, but I was like "O... M... G... you picked this song for this scene - you people are sick geniuses".
The Lovecats is another fun poppy one - Close to Me as well. The Close to me remix (from their 'Mixed up' collection is a sexy hump-jam for sure. Unititled (last song off the Disintegration record) is devastating, if you want he more moody stuff.
Thanks for this video. All my love.

The last time I attend to a The Cure concert it was in BBK Live Festival (Bilbao). The beginning of the show was delaying due to tech issues, so Robert grabbed his acoustic guitar, came out to the stage and star to play as 4 or 5 song he alone! They are just amazing!

Shake Dog Shake from The Rockn Roll Hall of Fame Live is a Banger from The Cure. It sounds much heavier when they perform it live. Give it a listen. It shows the Rocking Side of The Cure. My favorite Band ever! Keep them coming!!! ❤️

HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW THE CURE?! Dear lord, the things I could teach you. I’m so glad I was born in the 70’s; I feel so bad for kids/young adults these days.

I've seen this band six times in concert they're my favorite I'm almost 50 years old and I still have a picture of them hanging on my wall it is framed and it's signed by all the members so it's a grown up version but it's still there LOL

Not too long ago Robert Smith, singer and Cure mastermind, collaborated with Gorillaz on their beautifully creepy track "Strange Timez".

This video was filmed in Aviemore, Scotland (I think) Definitely north Scotland though. The palm tree(s) were brought in, Scotland is not tropical plant friendly

Amazing band... check out Lazarus by David Bowie.. the intro is very much using the same bass sound you hear in this. I'm getting Lazarus signed too by the saxophonist who worked with David Bowie!

Blessed to see these guys inducted in to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame at Barclays in Brooklyn! 🥰 Stevie Nicks & Janet Jackson we're the reason I was there. 🤗 But these guys brought back so many 😎 Club memories with each song they played! 🐰

Yes, please check out more. It's all good, and it's all different. The drummer is Boris Williams, who was with the band for ten years, during the 80s and early 90s. He is a genius. Please react to their song "All Cats Are Grey".

Robert wrote this song after a house fire. He found pics of his wife Mary in his wallet and the rubble and wrote this song. He's been with his wife for 50 years as of 2023, and they've been married for 35 years, as of 2023. I'm almost-52 and they've been my favs since 1986. I've seen them 5 times. RS is a lyrical and music genius!

I would suggest Boys Don’t Cry, Let’s Go To Bed, or In Between Days. They are masters of moodiness. Their music can take you high or low, but always with a beautiful melody.

A girl I met and hooked up with on a flight to my first deployment in Korea in 1989 gave me the cassette tape of the Cure Disintegration and it changed my life. For real, changed my life. That whole entire album helped me through a lot of times in my you g life. I'm 52 now but I still listen to this album and it still takes me places.

I bought this record the day it came out in 1989. I didn't tear up per say but I did really feel the emotion in it...I've seen every USA tour of theirs except the first one. I saw the show for this tour in New Orleans. The song Fascination Street is a tribute to Bourbon Street.
