    Thank you. I’m reading a great book called “The Shadows of Socrates” and this helped me visualize the events.

    We know quite a bit more of what was taught in the mysteries. Several ancient Greek authors talk about it, they just dont mention that is what they were talking about, so its easily missed.
    I would highly recommend that you read Thomas Taylor's 'The Eulusinian and Bachic Mysteries'.

    Are you familiar with Brian Maresku’s book, “The Immortality Key?” Or with the work of Carl Ruck?
    Both relate.

      I was about to say this. The psychedelic hypothesis seems like a very obvious candidate for a solution to this mystery.

    My learning about this mystery is profound in a psychogical sense.Many reports said " I no longer fear death" There is a afterlife . This Cult gave a sense of salvation to people and the Christans hated it , Did you know it was the last Pagan cult center to be destroyed ? In the Late Roman period , They feared the truth .

    Did you have a chance to go to Delphi? I visited it awhile back and it was the most amazing place on Earth that I've seen. I probably felt similar to how you felt when were in Eleusis.

    Great video! How did one get the right to participate in the Mysteries? Was this only for select initiates or was this like a rite of passage for all in the society?

    • @underthefigtreee
      @underthefigtreee  Рік тому +1

      as long as you completed initiation you were able to participate in the Mysteries! so if you could take off ten days to get drunk and sacrifice piglets - you're good to go

    I agree. Not all mysteries should be revealed.
    Your enthusiasm for the topic should get you a devoted audience. However, it's not about you. It's about them. The Greeks more unattractive habits should be discussed from time to time. A little balance is important.
    take care

    Your studies go back to the Archaic, so this is from before, but in Linear B only Demeter, Poseidon and Persephone are mentioned, no Hades? One UA-camr was wondering if that hints perhaps Persephone was Queen of the Underworld originally, and the "Oh! How horrible! Hades kidnapped Zeus' daughter with her father's permission but not her mother!" story was created later. That might make Persephone less of a victim and more powerful, like her mother Demeter is powerful on the surface.
    Not sure what that says about Hades 😋

    • @OrphicPolytheist
      @OrphicPolytheist Місяць тому

      Saying the name Hades was considered bad luck and it was a taboo. They mostly avoided using it, and used epithets in its place.

    @fig tree: I realize at the time of this video you didn't know what Mystery was, but I'm pleased to shock you and let you know, that the Mystery has been revealed. To know what it is, you need only delve into the information this man is blowing up: ua-cam.com/video/2dY-roDpHWI/v-deo.html

    Well, we can respect the people of the past without necessarily agreeing with them, right? I don't think we should agree with the idea of sacred and forbidden knowledge in this day and age.

    • @underthefigtreee
      @underthefigtreee  29 днів тому

      very true, we are not going obligated to agree with them. however, given that they are not here to share their knowledge it is forced to forever be forbidden to us

    If I could go back in time ANYWHERE, it would be to ancient Greece to try and take part in the mysteries. Or possibly to ancient Egypt for the same reason.
    Oh, and I am a 6'4" Texan viking and I admit I would probably have trouble sacrificing a piglet. I've got a soft spot for all animals. Insects included. Seriously, why a little piggy?

    • @MatthewKruse-ri8ep

      Cthonic worship has a pattern of blood rites as a means of propitiating the gods. Look up the Galu of Mesopotamia and Lamashtu. In a verse these deities are blood drinking and cannibalistic. The blood rites also serve to awareness in the individual making the sacrifice of the burden-responsibility-loss-power of the divine mind state in taking the life of the living creature. To experience both taking its life and its fear/loss/ pain as a ritualistic death of the individual. The old world was dark.
      To your point, I must agree, I feel it is better that we can ask, "Seriously, why little piggies?"
      - you speak a pure heart - blessed be your path.

    • @wasneeplus
      @wasneeplus Місяць тому

      @MatthewKruse-ri8ep the irony is, of course, that Christianity is exactly the same. Christians celebrate the excruciating death of their deity. Most Christians even partake in a ritual symbolic drinking of His blood, and eating of His flesh.
