We have hybrids because capitalism leads to slavery due to greed. Socialism fits our best instincts of community but a sociopath can exploit that system as well. The hybrid results in a check and balance. Democratic Socialism is the best of that balance until humanity can leave our petty animal nature behind.

@Michael Hampton I respectfully disagree Michael. We seem to have to pick sides or assign labels these days to people with different viewpoints. It is the loud, unlistening voices on any side of the debate that are not welcoming of open discussion. The irony is that these people, being close-minded and given to some form of zealotry, often have more in common with their targeted opponents "on the other side" than they do with those whom they perceive to be with them. A bigoted liberal with a closed mind will be likely to take up a vociferous debate with a more open-minded liberal where their perspectives differ; same thing goes for a conservative. Viewpoints form a spectrum, and there are as many different opinions within a team as there are between teams. Just because you may play for the Cowboys while I play for the Giants, or you work for Microsoft while I work for Google, or you vote Republican and I vote Democratic does not mean that you agree with all Cowboy players, Microsoft colleagues, or Republican voters. Conflict exists everywhere, which is why - and I absolutely agree with your core point here - that open discussion is what is needed. In this light, I am grateful for your comment.

I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to do well economically if they work hard and have good ideas. Dr. West is basically a very good man. We differ on how America should go forward to attain an egalitarian system without the power systems that currently exist. As I say the Principle is sound. Advancing it is a good thing, no matter the vehicle (system). If you can't place a reasonable amount of faith in that then what is the point of working??? BaldOldMan right on the money - the principle is great but America is using it as a facade to encourage people to put in the effort expecting some great reward, also referred to as the American dream. The fact of the matter is that success is not dependent on the merits of your work but rather on your propositioned standing in society. The concept of a social democracy (or democratic socialism as referred to by sanders) is trying to get people to the same starting point so that everybody has the chance to be successful based on what they put on. I respect the conversation but clearly a vast majority of Americans are not educated enough to understand these concepts. This is not to slam these people but to point out that education has failed them overall. This is a feature not a bug in the system - on some level we can have a discussion if critical thinking serves a country well or not - granted America has one of the least critical and uneducated populations in the western world. Nevertheless the absence of information and knowledge does not mean that people aren’t happy. What you have nowadays are a lot of people that live in this country with this access to knowledge that are extremely unsatisfied. On the other hand you have people that are uneducated but very happy with their modest life. There’s no right or wrong - bad or evil here. It’s all about perspectives

The term "Socialism" is not always well understood. Essentially, ["Socialism is a political, social and economic philosophy encompassing a range of economic and social systems characterised by social ownership of the means of production and workers' self-management of enterprises." -Wikipedia]. My greatest concern is "social ownership". Essentially, social ownership eventually deteriorates the concept of private property and freedom. It may sound attractive from an academic point-of-view (as a theory) but its full application is devastating. Aside from threatening private property and freedom, it drains motivation and ingenuity from its followers. History shows this. Remember the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) tried this system in different flavors. Marxism (the source of Socialism/Communism), Lennism, Stalinism etc. were cries against capitalism and social class. I can understand where Marx and Engels were coming from (I don't agree with them) but their utopian philosophy was (is) flawed. In order for Socialism to work (despite what some would say) a certain amount of coercion (state authority gone mad) must be used. Check history. Name a country (comparable to the U.S.) that has gotten Socialism to work for longer than our country's form of government. The USSR tried it for almost 80 years...it didn't work. (Where is the USSR now???) Why don't we have Russian made cars sold in the U.S.? We trade with Japan, Germany, South Korea, etc. Why not Russia if socialism/communism is such a great social model???
I agree (kinda) with John's comment "The word socialism and related terms have basically lost all meaning in practical political discourse." However, if he is promoting Socialism (in any form) then I have a serious disagreement with him. Under "Socialism" in Wikipedia there are MANY forms of "socialism". In principle, that form of government, in my opinion, is unhealthy to the human spirit.

cannabased It took you a whole year to respond and that’s the best you can come up with. (Telling me that intentionally misspelling a word is ironic or clever ). Put the weed down , it’s exacerbating your Trump derangement syndrome.

Give me an example where he ducked and weaved a question? Seemed like his answers were all very thought out.

@@cj-nyc2057 What makes you think it took him a year? Do you think he read your comment the day you posted it? More than likely he, like myself, came across it some time later, and wrote the response at that point.
Plus, even if it took him a year, does that invalidate his point? It may take me a year to realize 2+2=4... According to you, the answer of 4 couldn't be correct because it took a year to think of it. I'm just confused by your approach here.

I agreed with both of them on different topics. This was a great conversation.

I appreciate that this guy is at least willing to talk but he has sadly been misled. He intones faith but fails to remember that the word of God is that He views life as a precious gift and that if you intentionally take the life of another, the price you pay is your life.

Tucker got me double takin' with his suspiciously civil dialogue with my man Dr. West. Props where props are due but, boy, I got my eye on you 👀
