Another great video, guys! The “soapy” flavor of catfish is TSP: trisodium phosphate. It’s used as a preservative for frozen fish and shellfish. It’s especially noticeable in cheap farmed shrimp and preserved scallops. It’s a sign that they aren’t using fresh fish, they’re using frozen fish. “Real” fresh caught catfish does not taste like the TSP soap.
Keep up the awesome reviews! I really like to see you guys hash it all out in the studio. Better audio, better video and better rapport among the panel. ❤️
Highfalutin' Low Carb, you just blew my mind. I stopped eating scallops as a kid because they tasted like soap -- and only recently gave them a second chance, happy to find that I couldn't taste the soapiness anymore. Didn't realize it was product issue and not my tastebuds!
Yes! I love this format for the dining show! I feel like pictures of the food are enough, I don't miss the video footage. Great review!
Charles having a girlfriend who's a chef makes sense - he's by far the most knowledgeable in terms of the food itself and his commentary is hilarious. #TeamCharles
OriginalVagabond. Most knowledgeable in pretty much everything. He has a very academic- oriented personality, it seems. Probably does double de research of the others.
Love Charles!
He’s one of the best panel members regardless of the topic. Well-spoken, thoughtful, eloquent, and knowledgeable! I’ve really warmed up to his wonderful dry sense of humor. #teamcharles
I wasn't a fan of Charles in the beginning (perhaps he was just nervous in front of a camera), but I've really begun to enjoy his commentary an is clearly a real "foodie".
Charles needs to have an OnlyFans channel. He is cute as Heck.
Aaaaannnnd now I would like a show with just Zelda thank you.😂
Sounds to me like the substituting of the mac n cheese caused the chef to sabotage your meal. I would have had the server get the chef to come to the table and ask if he/she would eat that? Unacceptable. The picture of it looked awful.
Sounds like something questionable went on in the kitchen with that meal. Don't kid yourself people, it really does happen.
"Good for you, you fried some cheese." LOL. I truly enjoy Charles' sarcasm.
You just knew this wasn't going to end well. Why does everyone but Disney management know that this place needs to be rebuilt as Tiana's? The possibilities for that are sky high.
I have been saying this for years!!! Totally agree!
I’m surprised they haven’t put in a Tianas there or t French Quarter. Good idea.
I agree with someone else , Sean pissed off the chef. I would have pitched a complete fit, had a manager there, and had that nasty stuff replaced.
My thought as well.
"This restaurant sucks." 24:55
“I hope you guys understand. If you don’t, I don’t care” OMG IM LAUGHING SO HARD.
Charles rocks. "Good for you, you fried sime cheese."
I want dogs in every video going forward. Kittens would also be acceptable. Thank you.
That would be great. They could get a dog/cat from a local shelter/rescue to show and name it after a Disney character or fave Cast Member
Y'all seriously make my day better! Your honesty and humor is EVERYTHING!! I have a request 🤔🤔🤔..... Will yall consider doing another Flying Fish review? It's always been a favorite review of mine but it's been about a year and a half ... was curious if it still holds up. Plus this group needs to be the PERFECT 6 PACK 😉.... Pete, Ryno, Charles, Craig, Steve and Sean! Cooooome oooooon.... DO IT, ya know y'all want to!!😁 Haha. Great video/review as always! Much Love 😁💜
I agree. We went in July for the first time because of their review and it was outstanding! Our favorite at WDW now.
Perfectly easy to deduce what happened to Sean's food. The beef was probably inserted betwixt a sweaty line cook's lower cheeks, the mac and cheese was most likely spit in, and the wine reduction sauce possibly contained fry oil or urine. Also, the fact that the chef made such a fuss about a substitution to the menu means portions of the menu at this restaurant are DEFINITELY pre-made off property, brought in frozen and heated in a microwave. I Worked in theme park culinary for 3 years. I will be avoiding Boatwright's.
Agreed, I have family who works in the service industry. You don’t request this on a prefixed menu especially when you call the chef out. Quite frankly, Sean got what he deserved. Not trying to be mean, but he comes off so entitled it’s crazy.
Sean congrads on your new baby! Zelda is so beautiful and quiet! I so enjoy all your food reviews guys. This coming from an upnorth girl 20 plus visits. ( I pay very close attention to your reviews) Seans medallians seem to appear to be revenge for the mac and cheese request. You may not be comfortable saying such things but I am.This vlog made me laugh hard out loud today ty!!!
I think Sean pissed off the chef and he made that meal as bad as he could in retribution. I would definitely sent that meal back.
Pat Frank little did he know thousands of people are watching the review!! Lol...
The chef most definitely sabotaged his meal in retribution. Chefs don’t like requested differences/changes on a prix fix menu.
I went a couple of years ago and my mom has very many dietary restrictions due to allergies. They hated her for it.
They need to get over it though, as most of us know who have worked in hospitality, you want to be accommodating within reason for your guests. Allergies and accommodations still exist even with a prix fixe menu, and since these are all regular menu items, I doubt that anything is so special that they can't adjust it or sub it.
To be fair, most Disney prix fix menus have a note specifically saying no substitutions, so if you want to order it then you need to accept that no substitutions means that.
Boatrights by far is the worst place to eat. We actually asked for our dining credits back and after a lot of fit throwing (which I’m not proud of) we got 9 snack credits. I will never ever eat there again. Maybe their goal is to either poison or kill guests.
On Our first trip to WDW, we stayed at Riverside and our first meal right off the plane was Boatwrights. The meal was amazing. Jambalaya, blackened Catfish, and chicken and waffles. I and my two kids LOVED everything. Even the cast members were wonderful. So much so that on our next trip two years later we made this our last reservation of our vacation. It was HORRIBLE. The menu had changed for one thing. My son wanted the blacken catfish and it wasn’t there or the chicken and waffles. My son ordered the same Cajun catfish Charles had and picked the fish off around everything else. He said it tasted weird.....maybe the soapy thing? I had the chicken and dumpling. I don’t even remember what my daughter had, just that she was the only one who ate most of it. The flavors were off. The dumplings chewy (pasta type). I prefer the fluffy biscuit type. Anyway, our most looked forward to meal was a wash. Even the server we had wasn’t that great. We had to catch her attention for help or water. I mean by waving our hands for her.
Thanx for a great, honest reviews guys, and sorry the bad was so bad. Got to give you props for going back to a place that was so lackluster for you before. BTW - Zelda is ADORABLE - lots of love and good times with her, Shaun!!
boatWRONG hiyooooooo
PharmB most excellent comment 🤣
Those beef medallions even look like chewy leather. How did it leave the kitchen looking like that?
Love how pup friendly this show is. It’s not the first time we’ve had a pup in the studio.
"It was like eating an abandoned paper factory." Best line of the year!
The lads always deliver a good show - the dog incident was very funny (Sean's baseball cap in front of camera) :-)
"you could have literally eaten the $60 and been better off" 😂😂 Love all of you and your opinions!!
I ate there with my wife and kids and we all thought the place was fine. However, I did have some trouble finding something on the menu that would be to my liking. What really stood out for me was the service. Our server was excellent!
This (and every) DIS Unplugged Dining Review is brought to you by the words "Like" and "So"...
No substitutions = no substitutions. I don't get why you guys put up such a fuss about it. You were trying to take advantage of Disney's "we bow down to every customer" policy. It's like walking into a steakhouse and asking for a burger...because it's basically the same meat, right?
pre fix menu items are commonly prepared ahead of time because they likely contain elements that are not on the normal menu and may take substantial time to prepare. The mac and cheese was probably pre-mixed with seafood already.
"Good for you, you fried some cheese..." OMG. Charles. I burst out laughing. This was a GREAT review. Also, ZELDA!! LOVE. HER!
This was a really good review. Good chemistry, informative and entertaining. I think the fact that the meal was such a Jekyl & Hyde experience made the review more engaging. And Zelda was awesome lol
Oooh my goodness, Zelda is gorgeous!! 😍
Zelda is so Darn CUTE and gorgeous i am surprised on how quiet she is despite being nine months old
Zelda is sooooooooo cute. But about the food... I have gone to Boatwright’s in the past. I found the food ok, nothing memorable. I want something memorable from anything Disney.
My wife and I did enjoy our dinner at Boatwright's, but I'm in no hurry to go back there again. My biggest issue, like you mentioned, is the price really isn't worth it to me. While our food was good, I've had better for cheaper at Disney World.
Love the new puppy's name, Sean!
stayed at pt orleans riverside in april 2017 ate at boatwright loved it. i had prime rib my husband had the steak. it was cooked perfect and tasted great. the cornbread was amazing. dessert was great apple cobbler with ice cream. we were on the disney dining plan.
I have allergies and they were not willing to substitute so I had to cancel the meals, pay for what we had, and go to the food court. The service was horrible. Management was horrible. However, I was fully reimbursed for the portion of the meal that I did pay for by the front desk.
This review is right on.
I ate at Boatwright's in January 2019 and had the "all you can eat combo." Problem was I didn't want to eat much of it besides the corn bread, which was good.
If you go, be careful in selecting your meal.
Service is good.
My recommendation is to catch the boat and go over to Disney Springs for a table service meal.
It seems like Disney has an ongoing issue with a lot of on-property bad restaurants that never get fixed. I have read opinions around the internet that the root of the problem is the Dining Plan. Ie - every restaurant standardizes what is available to maximize the DDP profit margin. I am curious to hear Pete expound on that.
love sean to ,but he is one of the favoured ones, FOR NOW !!!!!
I stayed at PO Riverside 3x.....not once have I ate here. Nothing draws me in. The ambiance nor menu.
omg Zelda is so cute
Beef tips have to be prepared carefully. I would actually marinate the tips in (crazy enough) Italian Dressing. Then use the oven to cook them to my desired doneness. That's because every time I tried to cook tips in a pan they turn out just like shoe leather because it's easy to over cook them. Serve that with a sweet potato mash with honey, cinnamon, and nutmeg infused butter (sometimes I like to add crumbled up bacon) and steamed asparagus. I'm no chef by any means but Im the son and grandson of a master butchers and I would be scolded for treating me in a manner that your meat was treated. It pains me to hear that from a Disney Restaurant.
When Zelda looks at the camera--that face!!!
Is it possible this is just the caliber of table service restaurant you're going to get at a moderate resort? I realize there's not a fair comparison at the moment with the construction at CBR, and while CSR is a moderate I think the food is above moderate level due to the convention center.
I know I’m late here, but that ramekin sitting on top of Sean’s Mac and cheese in unacceptable, highly unsanitary and flat out disgusting. Imagine how many hands have come in contact, if that was the way it was brought out that’s enough to send it back without even tasting it.
I've been waiting for this review since Pete ranked it as one of the "worst table service restaurants on property".
Calling this restaurant a Dining Hall seems appropriate. Anyone who has been to college and lived in the dorms know dining hall food is... not good.
We arrive late on a Sunday. And figured why not grab food at boatwrights glad for this review.
“Tasted like an abandoned paper factory” is my favorite review comment of all time!
I don't see what the big deal is with the mac n cheese what if he had a shell fish allergy.
If you have an allergy, they give you an allergy menu and you know what you can and can't order. You don't look at the regular menu and start asking for substitutions.
If you have multiple food allergies you’re going to want to ask for the chef and don’t rely on the allergy menus
Zelda is too precious!!!
Puppy! \o/
More dogs in your dining reviews, please!!
More Zelda!!!
Did you call the head Chef? I would have called the chef out and said here eat this!
Zelda for the win.
What a beautiful pupper!
for 60 bucks you can eat a nice meal in Orlando Disney is a rip off it sound like your beef was off
I guess I live in a world where I would never even consider spending $10 for 3 slices of breaded green tomatoes and 4 little fried cheese balls. Reasonable price? Seriously?
Puppy!!!! 🤣 now we need to se Abby
Zelda is the best...more Zelda
Don't take your audience for granted, it's not a good look
too bad Charles is now gone. he was one of the best foodie reviewers.
We ate at Boatwright on 5-30-18. 6 of us, we had prime rib and chicken. It was great! We went back the next night and had NY steak, jambalaya, blackened scallops and grits. Everything was awful! Sent em back and no improvement. Never again!
Charles has a girlfriend? He isn't gay?
I like the video format however this video has made me completely remove boatwrights from our list of possible restaurants for our upcoming trip.
Musty basement sauce, and wet dog brittle? You guys are cracking me up over here! Another great, honest video.. I always appreciate hearing your points of view, as it helps me to choose ADRs when I'm down there... Zelda was a nice bonus today :)
I love your restaurant reviews. I’m from Baltimore Maryland. I’ve been disappointed with the seafood at most restaurant in the parks. Just lacking flavor. So.... I now carry my own sprinkle size of Old Bay seasoning we are well known for in the Chesapeake Bay Area. Thanks for all the info.🤓
I love all of the dining reviews you guys do! It's my favorite segment on the DIS. Boatwright's has been inconsistent for as long as I can remember. It would seem a couple of decades worth of mediocracy has pretty well defined what this place will always be. It’s sad for any restaurant to be okay with a subpar experience, but it seems even more egregious for a resort table service restaurant. They have so much potential and yet…
Oh wow, this makes me laugh so hard! So glad y’all are good hearted about this!
Being from Texas within 30 mins from Louisiana and a ton of family from tx/ New Orleans just makes me happy y’all know what’s good!
Charles always cracks me up now, & loooove y’all are pet friendly! Love it!
Plus I’ll add I’ve been to the quick service at French quarter MULTIPLE times for the beignets,(always blown away) and had a few other things such as the gumbo(in which my step dad tried to teach me even when he was deathly sick, authentic ) my mom had tears in her eyes due to it was sooo good! Would love to see you do a review from there! Glad y’all survived this one!
Great show. Zelda is BEAUTIFUL. It would be fun to see Abby and Zelda playing together. Maybe they could review the puppy food at Disney's Friends Pet Care Center?...lol. It is on Bonnet Creek near Port Orleans.
Wow we have stayed at port Orleans many times and always eat the food court because it’s so good and weren’t sure about this place- for that price we def won’t be trying it anytime soon. So many better places to eat on property
Thanks for the review AND the warning. Of all of the WDW restaurants we've been to, this is one we haven't eaten at due to all of the bad reviews. Not making some sort of adjustment to the check due to the the horrid meal Sean got would be BIG points off of the score of their service for me. Superb review. Please keep them coming. As someone else said, a re-review of Flying Fish would be great!
Via Napoli review next?? I’ve heard so many good things, but would love a fellow NJ person to give their opinion since we know good pizza 😜 loved the show with pictures instead of restaurant footage! Thanks for the review!
Zelda is adorable! You guys pretty much took one for the team, bless your hearts. So sad, so much potential for this Restaurant. I’m in Coastal Mississippi and good Fried Green Tomatoes with fresh crabmeat and a great sauce is fabulous.
Zelda is gorgeous!! (not that I am biased as a Mom of huskies myself) ... so sad that some of the food was inedible and that the manager did not adjust the bill
We love Boatwright’s
I now know why my family loved Boatwrights and can't understand why people hate it. We coincidentally ordered everything you loved and nothing you hated. That cornbread is amazing.
During my dcp I took a girl on a date here bc she was from LA and she got the etouffee and I got the ribeye and we thought it was great. Must be depending on the meal you order, also I used my CM discount so for the both of us it was $65 with 18% gratuity included. So if you love steak mine was absolutely perfectly grilled. Service is amazing.
Catfish are bottom dwellers, they taste like a muddy river. Obviously, these weren't fresh. They should never have a soapy flavor. Crazy.
Great review .... do you ever consider switching it up and perhaps bring Julie/Kevin/John with you Pete?
LOL Charles is too funny.! We love Shaun too.
Nikki & Ray GO VOLS! But that's not a UT hat. Haha. 😁💜
No harm meant😔. I saw y'alls comment first, big Vol fan so I went to look at the hat and was like yay... no... wait. Haha. I'm sorry.😕
Was really hoping you’d do Boatwights after hearing about brilliant your idea to review the worst restaurants. I’m going down there in sept and staying in PO French Quarter. Been on the fence about boatwrights since we have the dining plan. Still on the fence but this gave me a lot to think about. I def agree that the theming doesn’t make sense with the southern bayou resort. Wish they’d do something like Blue Bayou at Disneyland.
Love, love, love this review! It was highly entertaining, informative, and funny! I laughed so hard when Sean said...was it food?, snake, a piece of coal! I was laughing so hard my husband asked me if I was okay! I have stayed at the Port and have never tried Boatwrights...this was good information to know insofar as what to order and what to not order...btw....we need more of Zelda! Thanks guys for sacrificing your palettes for the viewers!
Great review again. Love the new format. We stayed at Riverside Summer 2017. We did not eat at Boatwrights. So can’t comment on the quality of the food. But during our stay we never saw it that busy!
You should have requested the chef come to your table. $60 for that?! Glad you are reviewing this and telling it like it is. Thank you.
I always thought the only thing that could make this show even better than it already is would be if you added puppy. And then you did it. You added puppy. So freaking cute!!!
Sean's meat looked like petrified organs. Horrible looking. Zelda is just gorgeous. Snuggle that baby and forgot what you ate. Pete, I love your shirt! It is beautiful on you. I look for that style for my brother. Oh, please tell me where you got your tee shirt with the bunny ear skull. I love that one. Thanks for the show.
I don't think you made a review of Paddlefish yet in DS, but I had a pretty dismal (and really weird) experience there, and would love to hear your opinion on it.
My wife and I ate here a couple years ago. I liked my meal, and I had the shrimp over grits. It was good. I also remember being really excited about the pre meal cornbread:)
Overall, this was a pretty entertaining episode!

I love how objective all of y’all are in your reviews. You give kudos where deserved while being honest in what isnt to your liking. “This restaurants sucks” 😂. Tell us how your really feel sean! Ha ha
The Port Orleans Resorts are my favourite hotels on property to stay at (that I can afford of course). I had the Shrimp and Grits when I stayed there in 14 and they were delicious. I'm from Nv and really wanted something that was traditionally southern. You can't get anymore southern than grits lol
After this review, I'd never take a $60+ chance on this restaurant. Clearly way too hit or miss.
Zelda was the best part of this video. All of your shows should have a dog in them! lol
Interesting thing, my family had the last breakfast served at boatwright's on the last day the did breakfast. It was pretty good from what I remember. Haven't eaten there since
and if you dont..i dont care LOL!!! haha love it! Zelda is so cute! New show " The Pets of the Dis!" lol
Sean’s dish lmao it looks so sad
Best quote of the show goes to Sean: "I'll give it a 2 because they didn't make me eat it out of a trough or anything."
Thanks for such a great honest review! We go to POR in October and we were wondering about boatwrights so perfectly timed, prob one to miss! Zelda is gorgeous!!
