    No one in the comments mentioned that the GS was a huge competitor against the Audi A6 in its earlier years! The GS is so underrated and underappreciated, but this will outlast all the germans! Period.

      My philosophy on Audi is this: Buy or own one while in the warranty period. Bail on it after that. Lexus , BUY or own forever as you'll barely ever use that warranty.

      Who cares if it lasts, people gets the Germans for joy, and doesn’t matter how hard people try to make a sewing machine to run, it can’t compare to a plane running on the ground

    Am buying a 2015 GS F Sport RWD today. This review was excellent to show that the newer models really haven’t changed all that much so getting into a 2015 seems very reasonable and in some ways even a superior choice, clearly from a fiscal perspective. I agree it’s overall an aging vehicle from a technology standpoint but it is such a wonderful drive.

      It's easy to write when company is not at stake. But making a car nobody buys can't be a sustainable business project for a car company.
      If the nextgen IS really become bigger, there will be no logic reason for a GS anymore, and it's probably the best on a marketing and accountant standpoint.
      But the place that is left by the GS could be a perfect spot to insert the LM.

      Same, I had a 2019 ES as a loaner recently and even though it was 4 years newer than my GS I couldn't WAIT to get my car back! The ES is no comparison to the rear-wheel drive based GS. Worlds apart. I've been driving front wheel drive Mazdas for over 30 years. I really needed a change, and my GS F-Sport AWD really did the trick for me by a long shot! And everyone akways says "Well, they're going to come out with an AWD ES..." and I'm like NO! No comparison.

    The ES is a yacht it's meant to be comfy
    The GS is a sports saloon
    Yes the current es has better technology and features than gs but that's because the gs is essentially from 2012 if you compare the 2012 es to gs the gs is definitely superior they offer different purposes
    The GS even compare to the new es just seems like a more exquisite vehicle and it is just dates
    If Lexus updates it
    I'm sure it will be a seller with good marketing
    An extra engine options and slighlty cheaper

    Another commenter called the GS the "Goldilocks" Lexus and I think that is very accurate. So many things about it were "just right". The sales decline has become a self-fulfilling prophecy. If cars are not improved and updated in this very competitive segment, sales are going to go down. There are too many alternatives. I had a 2015 GS350 AWD and was very happy with it. I tried to lease a new GS in the past few months and here's what mattered to me: Lexus killed the residual values so the price went way up. The mileage is so-so and the range is poor. The inside-the-car technology and ergonomics haven budged in years and it's become a disadvantage. It's a very nice car but that's not good enough for something priced in the mid-$50's. The new ES doesn't have AWD. I got a strong deal on a 2018 A6 and have been very happy with the switch. Lexus is not converting customers; they're losing customers.

    • @KirkKreifels
      @KirkKreifels  6 років тому +2

      Very well-written comment. Happy to hear you like your A6! If someone is in the market for GS, I'd push them to a low mileage 2012-2015 as they still look great and are nearly identical to a 2019.

    This is the goldilocks Lexus for me. It was a smaller LS back it 2012/13 but it's 2019 now so I don't expect it to be anything like the new architecture. I wouldn't expect people to buy these much now since it's out of date in tech but it's their best performance 4 door car

    The GS is (was) an example of old school Japanese luxury, or Toyotas attempt to beat the Germans at their own game. I'd say they succeeded and then some. Of course unlike the Euro luxury cars, the GS will continue starting and running normally long after the warranty ends, and same for most of the electronic bits and bobs. Sadly I don't think Toyota can make a case for a true GS replacement, I can see them likely just making the next IS a little bit larger and covering both segments with one car. My fear is when (if) the IS and GS are replaced it will be cheapened in some ways...see the Crown we get here in the states vs past models. Anyway, the GS was a great car, sad to see it go the way of the Dodo, and hope the Lexus bean counters see a business case for bringing it back. It was the perfect IS alternative for those people who needed a bit more backseat space or wanted a more luxurious experience without giving up too much driving enjoyment by going to an ES.

    Lexus needs to do something about their brand - be quicker to adopt Apple Carplay/Android Auto. Get their own version of self-park mode (a-la-BMW). Where are the plug-in hybrids? Include maintenance in their vehicle prices. What about digital dashboards (like Audi/Mercedes/BMW/Tesla)? What about updating more features for Lexus Enform? Test all of their cars (including the ES) on the Nurburgring. If Genesis can do that, why not Lexus?
    To make it REALLY stand out, why not Japanese delivery (similar to what BMW has for European Delivery)?

    Kirk - just curious, since you said you don't sell many GS: does your dealership keep one in the showroom? When I sat in mine (which actually was the on-floor display at a dealer about a half-hour away), it was a no-brainer that that was what I was going with. Yet the dealer closest to my house doesn't keep one for people to look at, which I don't understand. Of course they're not going to sell if Lexus is actively pushing other models, hiding these out on the lot, and not doing a re-design for 8 years...

I know that they will soon replace it because Lexus is know to take a car off of the market for a couple years and bring it back but it is sad to see it go because this will be the last midsize RWD Lexus that isn't electrified in some way. In my opinion, GS has always got the best balance in all the Lexus, especially compared to the ES, the driving dynamics r just much much better. But too bad that the GS is too small and too expensive for a family sedan and overall not enough to compete with the Germans. Lexus basically gave up on the GS otherwise they would’ve at least added apply CarPlay long time ago. I meant in 2019 Lexus still doesn’t offer apple CarPlay on its more sporty line up (IS, GS not even GSF)just upsets me as an 2017 IS owner.

    • @KirkKreifels
      @KirkKreifels  5 років тому

      As an IS owner, how do you find the GS too small?
      Also, the new ES really handles admirably compared to the GS. Yes it's still FWD, but it is an incredible ride that is much smoother and quieter than a GS. Try it out if you're in the market. If you want something sportier consider the ES F sport. No the ES isn't a direct successor to the GS, but it's better in every way other than RWD/AWD driving mechanics.

    • @vincentlee732
      @vincentlee732 5 років тому +1

      Kirk Kreifels I tried both, because the ES is based on an Avalon, the ES got much more space than a GS. This is also why the ES is selling and GS r not. I am not saying that the GS is too small compared to an IS, what I meant is compared to the 5 series and E, GS is too small. And I already tried the new ES F sport. Yes it is much better than the old one but compared the GS, no. The difference are huge when u compare a Transverse engine and a longitudinal one.

    Your comment about other auto manufactures focusing on crossovers is true, but please don't defend Lexus as Mercedes,BMW,AUDI, Hyundai and Jaguar who don't even sell the volumes Lexus does have all created Updated or Brand new midsize sport sedans. Lexus is in a tight spot I get it, but they can't expect buyers to be knocking the showroom floor down for a car designed in 2011 and updated 3 years ago to be flying off the lots. Build a new one for there customers or tell us "NO" so we can go lease from the Germans. Simple!

      Good arguments. GS F should get updated and a price cut IMO. Or just make the IS a little bigger and put TT v6 inside. Cheers.

    Lack of horsepower .. 3.7 liter twin turbo needed with 8 speed transmission. Sportback like BMW grand coupe like. With Lexus reliablity
