I'm so happy I found your channel this morning. I can't say enough about what you did in such a small space.. absolutely excellent. Thank you for sharing. Tom
You're right about those gears. I have three Bachmann Shays and only one has gears that work. I think the gears are slipping on the shafts for reasons unknown. The drive shaft turns but the wheels do not. And I've had Climax issues, too. I used to have a Bachmann 3-truck Climax. Its drivetrain failed. I sent it in to Bachmann and they added insult to injury by saying they could not fix it (no parts??). They offered me a new 2-truck Climax at a very reduced price in exchange. One of my two Climaxes is that unit. No more Bachmann geared locos for me.
I'm sure you guys know that Northwest Shoreline. Sells the replacement gears for the Bachmann Shay. The only problem being is that you need the equipment such as a press to do the replacement.
@@CarlBrainerd I have two truck and three truck Shays and i have to admit. I enjoy the 2 truck more than the three truck. You have a beautiful layout sir and i hope that you will have more operations videos in the future.
@@russellloomis4376 Russell, are your Shays Bachmann, MDC, brass, or ?? If you have MDC, I'd be curious to know how your experience with it turned out. I have an old MDC 2-truck Shay kit waiting on the shelf, along with all the NWSL goodies for it. Waiting to get around to it.
As they rolled into camp I heard the 'hiss' of the airbrakes set/release in my imagination/head
...when lo & behold (*v*) ...thankyou Carl
Doing a 1950's era setup myself that involves a handful of Heisler locomotives and some Climax units. This is pure inspiration!
Great work on the scenery

The under brush is outstanding. I am doing late 90's theme and I see and will be using the same type track sides as I see here.
Im impressed. Especially that all the climaxes and shays run. My bachman been broken since i got it due to crap gears in the driveline breaking.
