Great job on making this video 💯
I appreciate the kind words. I know you’re aware of how challenging it can be to record these types of videos. I’m def not an expert but just a dude wanting to help people and hopefully explain it to like-minded learners👍
This helped so much I been wanting to put some new break pads on my onyx
Marty, I’m glad this vid helped you. Just remember, you can always go back to the future to rewatch this for reference. 🙂👍!
On average the stock ONYX RCR front brake pads (different than the rear) will last between 12k miles and 15k miles. The front brake pads for the CTY2 are the same as the CTY2. Using “BrakeKleen” brake parts cleaner is something that should happen every 1k miles do 2k miles depending on how much dirt the front brake is exposed to. As for the squeaking sound, that’s always going to be there regardless of using BrakeKleen or using 300 grit then 500 grit sandpaper to clean the pads.
Getting rid of the noise comes down to changing to the “sintered” version of the brake pads.
There’s nothing wrong with changing the brake pads prematurely, it’s more about cleaning the caliper and rotator with BrakeKleen when changing the brake pads.
Thank you for the additional helpful info. Funny you mentioned it, I bought Sintered ones, I may have read that somewhere, prob from you lol. Can’t wait to replace my brakes and see. 👍
Do you guys know what material does the stock onyx rcr pads uses?
Have any suggestions for the rear break pads that I can find on Amazon?
Certainly McFly, I also made a vid about this for reference:

@@Gino. so I can even use the front break pads for the rear break pads too as well or they can only be used for the front ?
@@martymcfly4434 you haven’t watched my rear brakes replacement vid I take it? Short answer is, it’s a different brake pads bro.
@@Gino. the front break pads I was going to get which I think are the ones you recommended in the links you provided were GOO FIT front disk break pads but when I went to order it on Amazon they said it wouldn’t come till October and I wasn’t trying to wait that long to get since I’m still trying to ride my bike till summer ends. Would I be able to get those same ones at a regular bike shops or no?
@@martymcfly4434 I see. That is quite a wait. I’ve updated the links.
I’ve also tried these to hold me over awhile back:

But I think they became squeaky after some use (but it could’ve just been me using it hard or a bad batch?) I bought a bunch since the price is not too bad.
As for buying it in bike shops, I couldn’t tell ya as I’ve always ordered mine online. I imagine a moped store would make more sense.
How many miles on your onyx….? The pads you took off had meat 🍖 left on them…
I have very low miles man (~400 or so, if that). I barely ride it but I did go to an Onyx group ride in the mountains (still need to edit that vid) and when I got back it was squeaking, unbearably. And since the brake pads are fairly cheap, I just replaced them :)… also instructional content for the community.
@@Gino. I’ll be using it when I do mine… I also didn’t see any out so glad you did… I’m almost at 500 miles and mine also squeak… but it’s bearable so I won’t be changing mine anytime soon lol 😝
@@mr.e_from_nyc I hear ya (pun intended 👌) hahah.
Did the front brake become harder to press after this? Mine has. Not sure if that’s normal from the newer pads being more thicker?
@@Gino. Ha Haaaaaa Good one ☝️
