This dude was the only vj on Mtv that didn't make me want to vomit. Always very knowledgeable and showed great taste. 👍
Yeah, you're right, Downtown Julie Brown can suck it. But Tabitha Soren gets a pass.
Yep. This dude was always on point on mtv
100%! Matt Pinfield is a great interviewer. Had great conversation with him once.
Matt Pinfield is one of the many men I blame for me becoming the music nerd I am today. Really knowledgeable guy who's a class act. Love him so much. 120 minutes is one of the most important shows of my life.
He didn't try to out-obscure everyone and just chose a bunch of classics...good guy!
Man it's so nostalgic to hear him talk about music! 120 minutes was the best thing on MTV. We love ya Matt!
Love Matt Pinfield. This guy just hardcore loves music. Appreciates its art and creation. His excitement for it shows, and it's beautiful. God bless this guy.
These are always worth watching, but I really like this guy!
How dare he not include an obscure blues player from the 30s no ones ever heard of.
That dude did so much for me musically growing up! I used to watch 120 minutes all the time, and it probably built the foundation of my love for music without me knowing it. Great video!
So Old School...a true lover of good music...regardless of what everyone else considers good at the moment...a voice that all music lovers can really trust...so much respect for this guy...
Matt Pinfield!!! This guy has been disappeared from the radar for a while but hands down one of the greatest music nerds and MTV presenters ever.
Matt's a cool guy. Another great episode would be one with Mike Patton.
We'd love to get one with him! Maybe one day...
Amoeba please do
No doubt, that would be an interesting and complicated bag of records.
A. M.: I think he would just smash or burn every RHCP album and other related merch. he found in the store.
I think Mike Patton would never agree to do one, to be honest. But Trevor Dunn has done one!
FM 106.3 Forever. Jersey shore here. Thanks for the memories and tunes Matt.
Tommy Wiseau - What's In My Bag?
That would be amazing. Who's with me? Amoeba, I think you should seriously consider this.
That would definitely be interesting. We'll see if we can make it happen.
Please also do Corey Feldman
"Let's see what's in my bag, huh?"
He would only shop the bargain bin, because he's CHEEEEEEEEAP CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!
I'm crying at this comment, that would be genuinely the best amoeba episode ever.
I've heard about "The Room" a couple months back when someone mentioned it on this channel. Watched it a few weeks later. Absolutely legendary movie.
Nick Cave, The 'Mats, Roxy Music, Bowie of course, what great picks
I remember as a kid staying up late watching MTV when Matt Pinfield debut Foo Fighters "My Hero" Video on 120 Minutes.
As he had a few rough years I wish him a fast recovery. Just a great person to listen to at any time music is in the equation.
Didn't know how much i missed Matt, God bless this dude. My musical buddy every Sunday for years.
How I miss 120 minutes. It was such a smart show, and everyone on the show had a true passion for the music. My brother and I always stayed up late to watch it. I feel like those who didn’t experience it really missed out.
I could always tell Matt had an amazing passion for music back in the MTV days. Like the one special employee at a record store that could tell you something about any record in the store. Great to see him again, talking about music.
I wish I was friends with Matt. 120 mins helped me find so many artists
Matt you have been a life long vault of info, love listening to you talk music. Take care brother.
I remember watching him on 120 minutes & love the wide variety of music he likes. He's a true music lover
If I was an American I would want his voice - tremendous and marvellous picks
One of the best set of selections I've seen.
Bora Kesal I agree. Fascinating.
Holy hell, I couldn't be more proud to be a Matt Pinfield fan. Finally, an Amoeba episode that is so close to albums I would pick! Replacements / Beach Slang record picks. Beautiful.
To me, Beach Slang sounds like a garage version of mid-period Goo Goo Dolls, kinda like what they could've been if they never became a ballad band. Boy Named Goo, Superstar Car Wash, Hold Me Up era. Makes sense, as both are heavily influenced by the Replacements...
Was so lucky to have gotten to hear this dude spin records at the melody in new Brunswick during my youth. As much as I loved it then, I didn't realize how fortunate I really was. I practically lived at that place and drank in as much as I could. Thank You Mr. Pinfield for making my early 20s a Fkn Blast!
I ran into him while working at my retail job and he was so nice! Didn’t even realize it was him at first until he handed me his ID while paying. Super down to earth. Thanks for sitting down with him, Amoeba.
of thee man keeping the music world standing on our ears... Bless Up Bill Laswell and Matt Pinfield !
Matt Pinfield is the guy we all want to be. What a treat this was.
One of the best episodes I have seen in a while. Thank you Matt Pinfield.
this is in the top 5 of WIMB i loved this one.
Thanks! Matt rules!
Damn, Pinfeld hasn't aged a day since he was a MTV VJ 20 years ago.
Thanks for the recommendations Matt. Not all of them are my style but a couple I'm interested in so that's awesome.
jello biafra-whats in my bag would be great.
i wish this Matt did this every week and the episodes were an hour
Class act. Thank you for sharing!!!
Incredible listing of music. One of the best WIMB and most of them are already amazing.
Matt's sober now and looks incredibly awesome!
SO much good stuff, damn. Will need to pick up that Replacements set.
Wow! One of the best I've seen. He's all over the map and wonderful. What an ear!
I always liked his voice. When he hosted the rock shows on MTV. His voice would keep me on the edge of my seat. Knowing that something awesome would be played. His voice would build up to it. If that makes any sense at all
120 minutes and Matt Pinfield were the best part of MTV. A couple of the earlier VJ's were cool too...pre- TRL days.
This is how I got into and continue to love The Rave-Up’s!
he was a DJ on the short lived NYC alt-rock radio station 101.9 which existed at just the right time for little 12 year old me to get turned onto all types of cool bands i wouldn't have heard of otherwise! so grateful that we had that station for that brief period of time. my favorite memory was when the beastie boys guest DJ'd for the release of their final album. that station was so foundational to turning me into the lil freak i am today! used to listen to matt every morning on the way to school. does anybody else remember this station?
Awesome video .It's great seeing Matt after all these years.
One of the best ones...
After years of self abuse I found 106.3 WHTG, your rock alternative in Eatontown, NJ.
I think it was 1987. Bart Cross-Tierney was program manager and Chopper and I think Matt Pinfield came after that? Mike Sauder as well.
It was super cool to hear all these alternative rock songs 13 yrs before Napster and others.
Yeah I remember too, I had a small businesses at the shore & listened to HTG everyday, would call Matt to request the cool new bands & he'd play the tracks all the time. Talked with him a bunch at Asbury Park shows, very cool guy. Also heard him report live on air in (1994?) that they found a gun suicide victim in a garage in Seattle when Kurt was missing..... one of those moments you remember
Best collection I've seen yet on these
I have always had mad love for Matt and his knowledge. I especially love that he still buys cds like I do. Rock on Matt.
Loooove the rave ups! Great selection
Great guy. No phony baloney. Pure passion
I feel like there's a Matt Pinfield in every city, that guy that knows everything and is at every show.
I remember seeing him spinning records upstairs at The Melody in New Brunswick NJ in 80’s!!!!! Always happy to see anything he does!!!!!
beach slang is dope I saw them live with potty mouth and it was great!
Woah he saw The Birthday Party, Release the bats -era?! That’s sick. Matt knows all music very well. much respect
I remember watching 120 Minutes the episode about the WHFStivel 1997 my favorite part Matt interview the members of Echo and the Bunnymen after that I've seen the video "The Cutter" by Echo and the Bunnymen on 120 Minutes".
Loved that Dylan/Band LP since I was a kid, the versions on there are amazing.
Imagine a world where every VJ was as knowledgable and genuinely interested in music as Pinfield.
Matt Pinfield RULES!!!!!!!!!!
David bowie? Soundgarden? Nick Cave? Yeah the man real knows good music! RIP Bowie and Cornell
Love Matt. I learned a lot from 120.
Hey Matt , you could bang on about ABBA. I wouldn’t care, You’ve turned be on to soo many bands …. Eternally indebted to you !!! Oddly enough we have same musical tastes!! Once again …. Thanks man🤙🏽
Echo and the bunnymen don't get enough credit. Crocodiles is one of the all-time greatest albums
His shirt is marvelous.
When I was a boy I wanted to be like Matt Pinfield.
Would love to shoot the breeze with Matt about music or anything really. Just seems like a super chill, kind and highly knowledgeable guy (especially with all the Bowie love he’s shown here)
Scott Walker is amazing. Scott 4 is one of my favorite albums of all time.
Back in the good ol' days... watching MTV... I wanted to be Matt Pinfield more than I wanted to be any rock star in the videos. I still strive to have his knowledge.
Aw man, it's cool to see him give Hoople's Sweet Jane its due. The Mick Ralphs guitar outro is classic and is no weak sister compared to the original.
Cowboy Junkies version of Sweet Jane is great too!
Matt is just the best.
greatest mtv dj ever
Echo & The Bunnymen...That's awesome.
Hey are they still around. They would be great for a What's In My Bag.
The amount of musical knowledge in that dude’s head is unrivaled…I’ve always simultaneously envied and been in awe of Pinfield
Great episode!
Love Matt and miss his radio show from New York! Ct radio classic rock garbage the worst! I remember hearing Zep's Ten Years Gone on his shift! Saw Matt in bleachers at Johnny Marr's show in Brooklyn(?) when supporting his first solo album. Can that be almost 5 yrs ago? Crazy!!
When I hear the term "Alternative Music" (REAL alternative music) Matt Pinfield is the first person that comes to mind. He was the Anthony Fantano" of the 90s.
finally someone chooses "Crystal Days" by Echo and the Bunneymen. AWESOME album. start to finish
of course it would be someone with great taste like Matt Pinfield
You see? Even Matt Pinfield appreciates CDs over vinyl. He knows they're superior.
Found out about Pinfield on the outro to the Limp Bizkit album Significant Other. His voice and tone is like no other ahaha
Starting of with Scott Walker Outstandings picks, Matt. Found it funny "I could never stop my thirst for NEW MUSIC" goes on to pick 90% Classic standards.
Cool dude...thank you.
Legend.
This the same dude that was on the limp bizkit album talkin bout how they were the saviours of rock n roll. Never forget.
Limp bizkit sucks. But they were huge for a time and made older rock bands relevant again.
Lol
Anyone who can recognize the genius of Scott Walker is ok in my book. That new soundtrack he showed is amazing - check it out
Pinfield has always knew what is good.
Matt Pinfield arguably knows more about music than any human on the planet.
Fuck yeah.
Didn't realize Pinfield was so knowledgeable. I just remember Pinfield from USA's Farm Club.
if you don't like matt pinfield then there's something wrong with you!
Nothing wrong with me
Matt's definitely looking better now than he did in this video
Matt hasn't aged.
walker brothers are underated
Check your head is my favorite BboyS album.
Fantastic selection. Those box sets alone are expensive.
Good guy...genuine.
Matt has great musical taste.
Awesome
Matt always been a cool ass dude
Cool guy and great picks ;)
