Great update. My wife made me a tin for Christmas based on your videos. She is a big fan! She personalized it to things that I need (as per your advice). Included a multi-tool, a flashlight, low-profile nail clippers, clips and pins, a space pen, $20, and myriad other useful things, securing it all with rare earth magnets - and a Starbucks Coffee Via for everyone else's safety. It was the best present I've ever received and I use it all the time. I'd love to repay the favor with one of your new tins!
I really love the way think. extremely comprehensive kit. I never would have thought about the ratchet. I work in k-12 schools and am very limited in the gear I can legally and ethically carry. I also love the idea of the SD cards with copy of Wikipedia. it makes me think about how I can store reference material for offline use. your video as always was very inspiring. lastly, you've solved the biggest issue I've had with these kits... noise. obviously pain staking work, but you've fixed the rattling. I walk all day long for my job. this will allow me to still be prepared, but keep me in compliance and keep my sanity . beautiful work sir. best kit I have seen

Very clever of you. I've seen Heaven knows HOW many Altoids tin EDC kits, but yours is by FAR the most efficient and unique in its layout and composition. It wouldn't be a stretch to say you could sell these preassembled kits, minus the cashola and meds, and create a decent niche market for yourself. Thanks for sharing this with us. PS, SUPER idea of placing a small photo of your Prepper Kiddos in the kit, too. I'd look at it as a reminder of why you are prepping and ensuring you make it home to those most precious people.

I love the fact that the tins you post actually have practical application beyond the usual attempt at a micro bug out bag that really won't help with much. Sometimes it's nice to be able to save the day at the office because unlike everyone else there you actually have a screwdriver or pliers with you.
4 aspirin and 11 diarrhea pills??? If you need 3x as much diarrhea medicine as ordinary pain/headache/hangover medicine you might want to talk to your doctor about that! :D
Aspirin are good, but I can tell you form a serious 'survival' standpoint, if you have severe diarrhea, from anything from bad food to a bacterial ingestion, you can dehydrate in less than 12 hours, to a serious, near fatal condition. I have seen this in SnR training.Trapped in a building, power out, injured in an unexpected scenario, whatever, those a-d tabs can be a lifesaver.
I just wanted to thank you for sharing your Urban EDC kit, while I don't like to consider myself a hard core prepper sort of guy, I confess I have been assembling my own sort of kit which I keep in my work bag, so far I have a ferro rod, a good solid folding knife, signal mirror, knife sharpener, some tinder, lightning charging cable, a small disk light, which also has a strobe feature a compass and a small first aid (ouch kit)I plan to supplement this now with some food rations and some baby wipes. I have already downloaded your PDF and plan to invest in some of the tools you have featured on your video.
This kit includes a few great concepts: mini slider tins, magnetic attachment, fully usable ratchet / screwdriver... And what I really like - in contrast to most other altoids kits - it looks re-packable once opened, which makes sure that it is actually used. Good job refining that to this state!
I really like this kit. Well thought out kit. Nail-clippers are necessary. I have some at work and in every dobbkit I have (I have 4 for camping, long-time travel, short term travel and motorcycle camping. ) Have to have clippers.
Yes, a needle and some thread wound up on a tiny piece of cardboard, essential thread colors being black, white and main color used in uniforms (eg work/school). Having spare buttons won't hurt either, but that's not essential.
I think I have finally found someone as obsessed with tiny objects as me! I have a gallon sized bag full of different tiny bottles I have collected from around the world (mainly Tokyo). You would have a field day in their store called Tokyo Hands. So much tiny stuff!
Very nice kit, your kits have been an inspiration for me to create my own edc kits. Not Altoid based, but using a pocket organiser and an old camera case. These two i use depending on wich pants i have on. The pocket organiser when i have tactical pants with cargo pockets, the camera case when i have jeans or slacks, i can carry it on my belt and people think i have a camera. My kits are not for survival, they are for daily use, and i think i use something from them everyday. What i keep in both of tem is an USB to micro USB cable, an Anker Powercore+mini, a Victorinox either a Compact or a Tourist, a lighter and a flashlight, a small first aidkit and a spare AAA battery, and some painkillers. In the pocket organiser i have also a pen, a prytool a pencil and some other things to complement my knife, keychain and flashlight.
Every time I watch one of your videos it send me on a virtual shopping trip and research frenzy. Don't buy many things on Amazon now due to the exchange/shipping to Australia. I usually use nail clippers multiple times a day so much better than multitool scissors for me too. Thanks for another great video.
just as an fyi; all meds n vitamins lose potency quickly unless they are in an airtight container. so please change them out often. I use the small contact lens cases for any pills as they are airtight and waterproof, thin and fit well in pockets . yes they are smallish but they keep the meds fresh n potent. I keep one in all my packs, bobs n med kits etc. btw, LOVE your magnate idea and your kits. Thank you for all the useful info you put into all your vids.
I think what I appreciate most about this kit is that it serves as a reminder to other preppers that although we plan for the worst, the worst hasn't happened yet. As such we don't need our survival kits or BOB when we're walking around the city, we need a system that's more adapted to its setting and that's exactly what gap this style of kit fills. A practical kit to match its environment.
Fantastic kit! Loved v2 and this is full of logical incremental improvements. I use a tin-based kit inspired by your v2, and although it's not an Altoids tin the same principles of organisation and ruthless space-saving apply. The only improvement I could think of for v3 would be, since you couldn't fit the match striker in the lid of the mini tin, maybe trim it down and glue to the bottom/side of the mini tin. I glued a striker to the inside of my main tin, and it's always held there just fine! Keep up the great work!
I have a couple altoid tins in my edc bag but yours set up is far better than mine. I would love one like yours it is very thought out. Always love your organization. As a medic I have one set up for first aid and one with just odds and ends that would fit in the tin. But your version 3.0 is by far the best one to date. Keep up the amazing vids.
When I became a prepper, just a few years ago, I struggled to gain all of the knowledge that I required to be successful in this. Your channel has given me a knowledge that allowed be to be safe and be prepared and it's the BOB's, the EDC's and the Altoids Kit videos that all contribute to my cycle of prepping projects, knowledge and gear! I've made some of these kits for my folks, and I used a lot of the ideas from this channel. They loved it. Some people don't realize how much money and times goes into it due to its size.
I carry fingernail clippers and tweezers as well. I don't like using scissors unless I don't have clippers. I really admire how well everything fits together in the kit. But that's why it's version 3.0, you're able to find the smallest or best fitting version of everything. I also really liked the Wikipedia video, too. It never occurred to me to save it for myself. I love these kits and with this one you've covered all the bases. It's perfect for my husband, but I would need to add a few things. Hey, It would be really awesome if you could do collaboration with your wife for the female version of this EDC kit. I wish more women realized stuff like this is essential in a not so stable world.
I replicated this kit with a few changes and it works so well. From the nail clippers to the tweezers to the pharmacy box. Very versatile. Not too heavy either. I'm just waiting for my magnets to come in the mail. Thanks for putting this together

I just rewatched the video. Your Altoid Kit is just extremely amazing. I wouldn't have the patience to put it together in this manner. I am glad though that there are people like you who can do stuff like that. So impressed.
hands down the most detailed walk through of an Altoids EDC kit. wow, a little OCD but very good. i really must commend you on mentioning that this kit is made to YOUR liking and needs. it's a shame that the prepper community is sometimes so narrow minded about gear. yes, there are universal principles concerning gear and skills. and yes, some gear/skills are better than others at certain tasks. but a good deal of it should reflect your environment and personal taste or abilities. example: my mother, a prepper, is 64 years old. she has many limitations on what she can do or even use. so we have adapted the basic principles of prepping to fit her abilities and needs. does she have an equal chance of survival as a 22 year old healthy man . . . sadly no. but with the right training and gear that she is familiar with and capable of using she will have a much greater chance of surviving. also, not all of prepping is for SHTF end of the world scenarios . it is also for localized emergencies like bad weather, terrorist attack, or the local crazy disrupting your normal life in a multitude of ways. so kudos to you for thinking outside the "box" because that is where real life happens.

I'm a phone tech. I have never thought about carrying one of these but I can see many uses for it in my job. A hand made one by the Urban Prepper would be the bees knees!

I just wanted to let you know that I've been using this system--complete with slide top tins, Victorinox nail clippers, and Topeak ratchet--for a couple years now. The nail clippers get used the most of anything else. The split pea sized lighter I have (brand name is Dolphin from eBay, ~$2) gets used a ton too. My favorite piece of equipment is the ratchet. It gets a ton of use and is a true, quality tool worthy of real use. Thank you so much for this video.

For an additional/last resort cutting tool you could take a hacksaw blade and cut it to size for your kit. If you want a handle you can use duct tape or even a sharpie cap, it's up to you. Personally I like the insurance of have a last resort cutting tool. You could also use a razor blade if you prefer a non serrated blade or use both that works too.

Your Altoid system has been very helpful for my daily life. I created my own urban tin which is with me anytime I cannot carry my EDC bag. Lip balm seems to be my absolute essential in this tin with a close second being a small nail clipper. The tin brings me enough security to feel prepared, even without my full EDC. A Jansport Agave fulfills all my daily needs. Keep up the videos, it's extremely helpful.

I've been watching several of ur videos and I thought of reaching out to say that I've been prepping my everyday edc and my 72 hr edc or get home bag. But these video cover the more minute items that are sometimes overlooked or just forgotten about. Your videos have motivated me and I will also be prepping an altoids edc just in case. Coming from a country which is also largely one giant city, this video really hits me. I've been trying to find ways to build an EDC altoids tin for the longest time and just can't find the right items to fit in. Thanks for the video, I will have to look for the equivalents here.
I loved the design and compartmentalization of these kits. I don't use nearly as many of the bits, so I store earplugs in there instead, which help in my workspace when I'm trying to focus.
That is so cool. I definitely enjoy the testing aspect of these UA-cam videos. I feel that "the proof is in the pudding". I also feel that if I try to go big with these type of kits that it will help encourage others to raise their own personal bar. Hopefully all of this helps improve the prepping community as a whole.
I wanted one like this. Just created a simple one but still missing a lot of stuff. The picture is an amazing idea in emergency situations. It increases motivation and keeps you going for sure.

just as an fyi; all meds n vitamins lose potency quickly unless they are in an airtight container. so please change them out often. I use the small contact lens cases for any pills as they are airtight and waterproof, thin and fit well in pockets . yes they are smallish but they keep the meds fresh n potent. I keep one in all my packs, bobs n med kits etc. btw, LOVE your magnate idea and your kits. Thank you for all the useful info you put into all your vids.

I think what I appreciate most about this kit is that it serves as a reminder to other preppers that although we plan for the worst, the worst hasn't happened yet. As such we don't need our survival kits or BOB when we're walking around the city, we need a system that's more adapted to its setting and that's exactly what gap this style of kit fills. A practical kit to match its environment.
Fantastic kit! Loved v2 and this is full of logical incremental improvements. I use a tin-based kit inspired by your v2, and although it's not an Altoids tin the same principles of organisation and ruthless space-saving apply. The only improvement I could think of for v3 would be, since you couldn't fit the match striker in the lid of the mini tin, maybe trim it down and glue to the bottom/side of the mini tin. I glued a striker to the inside of my main tin, and it's always held there just fine!

I have a couple altoid tins in my edc bag but yours set up is far better than mine. I would love one like yours it is very thought out. Always love your organization. As a medic I have one set up for first aid and one with just odds and ends that would fit in the tin. But your version 3.0 is by far the best one to date. Keep up the amazing vids.
When I became a prepper, just a few years ago, I struggled to gain all of the knowledge that I required to be successful in this. Your channel has given me a knowledge that allowed be to be safe and be prepared and it's the BOB's, the EDC's and the Altoids Kit videos that all contribute to my cycle of prepping projects, knowledge and gear! I've made some of these kits for my folks, and I used a lot of the ideas from this channel. They loved it. Some people don't realize how much money and times goes into it due to its size.
The only altoids tin that can do absolutely everything except for freshen up your breath! :D
I carry fingernail clippers and tweezers as well. I don't like using scissors unless I don't have clippers.
I really admire how well everything fits together in the kit. But that's why it's version 3.0, you're able to find the smallest or best fitting version of everything.

I love how everything is chosen due to its practicality! I work in an environment of some "tactically" minded individuals and they are constantly asking to use the nail clippers and dental floss of my EDC!

I really liked this video, your kit is great. Because i live in Argentina i cannot get some tools (leathermans are very expensive) so i try to use other items, maybe cheaper versions.

hands down the most detailed walk through of an Altoids EDC kit. wow, a little OCD but very good. i really must commend you on mentioning that this kit is made to YOUR liking and needs. it's a shame that the prepper community is sometimes so narrow minded about gear. yes, there are universal principles concerning gear and skills. and yes, some gear/skills are better than others at certain tasks. but a good deal of it should reflect your environment and personal taste or abilities. example: my mother, a prepper, is 64 years old. she has many limitations on what she can do or even use. so we have adapted the basic principles of prepping to fit her abilities and needs. does she have an equal chance of survival as a 22 year old healthy man . . . sadly no. but with the right training and gear that she is familiar with and capable of using she will have a much greater chance of surviving. also, not all of prepping is for SHTF end of the world scenarios . it is also for localized emergencies like bad weather, terrorist attack, or the local crazy disrupting your normal life in a multitude of ways. so kudos to you for thinking outside the "box" because that is where real life happens.

I just wanted to let you know that I've been using this system--complete with slide top tins, Victorinox nail clippers, and Topeak ratchet--for a couple years now. The nail clippers get used the most of anything else. The split pea sized lighter I have (brand name is Dolphin from eBay, ~$2) gets used a ton too. My favorite piece of equipment is the ratchet. It gets a ton of use and is a true, quality tool worthy of real use. Thank you so much for this video.

For an additional/last resort cutting tool you could take a hacksaw blade and cut it to size for your kit. If you want a handle you can use duct tape or even a sharpie cap, it's up to you. Personally I like the insurance of have a last resort cutting tool. You could also use a razor blade if you prefer a non serrated blade or use both that works too.

I love the idea of a Altoids EDC Kit, no one would ever think you would have emergency supplies.
Your Altoid system has been very helpful for my daily life. I created my own urban tin which is with me anytime I cannot carry my EDC bag. Lip balm seems to be my absolute essential in this tin with a close second being a small nail clipper. The tin brings me enough security to feel prepared, even without my full EDC. A Jansport Agave fulfills all my daily needs. Keep up the videos, it's extremely helpful.
I got to stop watching Urban Prepper- you come up with such super ideas I end up unhappy with my current prepping and realize I still have a ways to go. Some super ideas and I'll be working on improving and please keep putting out such super and informative videos

I've been watching several of ur videos and I thought of reaching out to say that I've been prepping my everyday edc and my 72 hr edc or get home bag. But these video cover the more minute items that are sometimes overlooked or just forgotten about. Your videos have motivated me and I will also be prepping an altoids edc just in case. I made a few Altoid tin survival kits with my boy at scouts , but your organizational skill is borderline OCD . I really like this kit well thought out and capable .

Coming from a country which is also largely one giant city, this video really hits me. I've been trying to find ways to build an EDC altoids tin for the longest time and just can't find the right items to fit in. Thanks for the video, I will have to look for the equivalents here.
You have the most well thought out kits I've ever seen. I've borrowed so many of your ideas and used them to jumpstart my many of my own kits.
I loved the design and compartmentalization of these kits. I don't use nearly as many of the bits, so I store earplugs in there instead, which help in my workspace when I'm trying to focus.

That is so cool. I definitely enjoy the testing aspect of these UA-cam videos. I feel that "the proof is in the pudding". I also feel that if I try to go big with these type of kits that it will help encourage others to raise their own personal bar. Hopefully all of this helps improve the prepping community as a whole.
