Great Altoids tin setup. Don’t forget to include instructions on where each item goes in the tin, when you start selling them. Not everyone has your Tetris skills!

I love when I have a lime green one, all of the sudden I can't find it and then timmy starts lighting a cig swearing up and down he has had that lime green lighter the whole time.
One of my favorite EDC videos thus far. Thorough, comprehensive, concise, and chock full of ideas to glean even if I don't sign up for the complete "Altoid tetris" affair. You "earned your money" on this one, and another subscriber.
Mints, condoms, dice, cash, razorblade, painkillers. Idk what kind of life some ppl lead so that they need the number to 8 different emergency services and 4 different types of screwdrivers.
I recently had the idea that another option for a pocket kit is a cigarette case. They’re similar in size and some of them even have build in lighters. I also just think they’re cooler looking. Plus having the items vertical rather than horizontal should make it easier to get stuff in and out. I’m not sure if they’ll hold quite as much, but it seems like a decent trade-off to me.
When you start selling these I will buy some for my cars, man bag, buddies. Funny story I made a couple of these (my version) and sent one to my buddy. He needed a safety pin and remembered there was one in the kit I sent him. He called me to say thanks that the kit came in handy when he least expected it. Your a star Cliff, shine on.
Wow, you've put a tremendous amount of thought into this latest kit. Guess that's what happens when you're noodling around a concept for 10 years! Thank you for sharing. My only substantive comments are: 1) a white Bic mini has the advantage of allowing you to see the remaining fuel level as it's semi translucent, and 2) you and your viewers might also enjoy another micro gadget/prepping channel: MeZillch. He also scratches that OCD/MacGuyver itch that I find so enticing!
I live in Caracas, Venezuela, I have been following you for years, you have an excellent channel. I remember when in your EDC version 2.1 you talked about our country, and believe me when I tell you that the conditions here have not improved, on the contrary, they have worsened. Certainly an EDC like that is very useful for us, unfortunately for us it is extremely difficult to acquire the items to assemble it, our salary is only about 3 to 10 dollars a month. Congratulations again for your channel. I wish you success, regards.
Very sorry to hear of your desperate situation. The world is watching the situation in Venezuela fall apart and your people dying, but it seems nothing can be done without overthrowing your corrupt Government with military force. @@emsforlife444 Thanks for your words. The future of my country and of all of us depends on the departure of the current government. To date all attempts have been unsuccessful. Great to see an update to the Urban Altoids EDC kit. It's one of my favourite kits of yours. Also when you start selling them please consider international shipping
Nail clippers, sanitizer and dental floss are probably the only hygiene items I always make sure are ready to go. All three keep you disease free ish. All three have multi function. All three serve morale. PS did you know that Swiss Army makes a pretty cool multi - smal nail clipper, scissor, blade, tweezer and pick pocket tool? It’s about the size of a 1/4” thick USB drive - might fit perfectly in there and save you some space?
This is kind of surreal, I’ve been watching your ASK videos for years. I remember watching the first versions while running on a treadmill during lunch breaks back at my job in Iowa years ago... now I’m watching this at a barber shop waiting for a haircut in Florida. Nice kit
There's always room for a razer blade:) also, for Urban EDC you could switch to the 4mm bits & fit more of them. Wiha sells that 1/4 -> 4mm adapter. I do agree on the nail clipper; I've carried the Swiss army nail clipper for years! Also, I like to carry a bit of that poster putty stuff & a threaded needle. Finally, I found a small wallet that fits Altoids at Staples.
I really appreciate these videos. Your previous kits inspired me to make my own kits. I don’t own a car and travel by bike, scooter, bus, and foot a lot, so I put a whole first aid kit in an Altoids and it has been clutch. I keep it in a slightly larger things I need on the go kit. Your kits always inspire me to tweak mine and keep them efficient!
I used to stockpile Altoids tins for making kits just like these. You have no idea how excited I was to find these videos......now to go out to the shed and find those tins
Great idea to use magnets to hold everything in place - thanks for sharing. I'm not superstitious, so I always carry a white mini-BIC to see, how much fuel is in there and I detach the child-safe clip. To help prevent accidental release, I grind the release lever, 'til it's not sticking out any more - and put on a cover of small innertube, great for fire starting. Instead of nail clippers, which leave a sharp edge that I always catch on something, I carry a nail file, ground to size - if you use it wet, you can touch up your blades too. In the medical/MISC- compartment I carry at least 4 water purification tablets and in the tin one or two 1 quart plastic bags.
I ordered some smart watch bands, and they came with tins like the ones you use, but these are almost 3 times the size roughly. so these sizes are bigger, but not to big so more can be packed into the tins if need be.
Retired Contractor, 2 x kids in college, I always have a tool belt in the truck that will do most things, car/boat/whatever in an emergency. But have often found myself without my truck, kids dorm rooms etc, where I am headed to HD because I am unarmed for the task. Your combo screwdriver/bits/MOST IMPORTANT the ones that you include that fit IKEA, and most other assembly furniture would have saved me many times over. Personally I would would just add a #1 phillips bit (works on lots of furniture/chairs etc) and a few more torx bits. Very nice Video, thank you.
THANK YOU! my 12 year old adores MacGyver old and new and when I showed her this video she immediately wanted to watch it! She has been on and off with prepping, but after my wife got on board, she got more into it. I love the pouch you have! On a personal note, my initiation to prepping is watching Mad Max 3 and there's an inset shot of Gibson's fingernails. They were filthy and long. I've been a big believer in having clippers with me at all times since then.
You could probably glue a vinyl or plastic credit card insert used for wallets to the top of the lid if you wanted to store more information like additional phone numbers, the stamps, or the dollar bills.
Amazing how much you can fit there. The regular bits are rather big though, you could consider using the Leatherman Bit Kit, which are probably half size of the normal bits, have two ends each, and there's an extender for them as well. The Leatherman Bit Driver or the Bit Extender do not fit the Style multi-tools, but at least help a bit (pun intended). You can actually fit such a bit in the handle of the Style multi-tool. My essentials always include a 20 liter trash bag (with handles), which folds crazy small, and/or several 1-3 liter freezer bags, which fold even smaller. Tie up with a small rubber band, which has many uses as well. It's always fun to see people's expression when someone asks for a plastic bag and you hand them a folded plastic bag the size of your thumbnail, but it opens up to a full-sized bag.
Have you ever considered storing some items in your hat that you always wear. Also what is the weight of this kit. Like what you have done with the magnets it give me some ideas. Thanks.
Except MacGyver only needed a swiss army knife. Not an edc altoids tin, an edc backpack to go along with an edc messenger bag, not to mention pockets no doubt filled with more edc gear. Just a swiss army knife. As if knowledge was more important than gear. Makes ya think.
@@basp-ef7jx "All I need are these everyday objects - a toothpick, some liquor, a gun with no bullets, bullets, and three of my MacGyver writers" Selma: "Okay" Not that knowledge isn't cool and all, and I loved MacGuyver as much as the next 80's kid - but 9/10 of what he did wouldn't work in real life. Cool! I’d be interested in buying one if you end up selling them outside the US. Have you considered using a clear plastic card sleeve for the underside of the lid, that way you can have other flat items (like the stamps and $) and still have the info visible? I myself am trying to reduce my writing office down to a backpack. And what about a mini magnifying lens for starting fires on sunny days?
I've been working on a minimalist kit, kind of a survival tin on steroids, Trying to squeeze capability found in a day pack into a 2" X 4" X 6" tin / pouch.
Hi. Great work! I suggested some time ago, that adding a hand-sewing needle and few feet of a strong thin thread (which can still be used in regular needles in regular sewing machines), and a couple of shirt buttons would be a very nice addition and will not take up any space at all, you can keep them in the MISC tin. Plus I find that keeping a 1 meter paper-based measuring tape from ikea very nice, which will go nicely in this tin , or your wallet. Oh btw Nail Clippers are must for humans. I don't understand people insulting them or you for having a nail clipper. I always have one in my pocket/keychain. Even a simple thing as nail clipper has multiple uses. Also useful to keep the nails of my kids in groomed state. Also helpful in cutting a slice of skin off if there is a shin sliver along the skin. fI also use it to file/smooth out broken nails in case a it breaks accidentally during some work, and is causing the regular annoyance. I also think that selling these tin kits would not be a great idea financially (or even time wise) , as there are very few buyers. Besides, you have shown how to make it ourselves and have open-sourced the list of items, so people can simply buy the stuff themselves and can build one themselves, that would be actually more cost effective for them. Here is the link to strong sewing thread: www.stoffogstil.no/sytilbehor/trad/bjornetrad-150-m
Great updates. I too switch to the scissor Leatherman over the pliers for the same reason, plus I carry a full-size Leatherman and I opted for a model without scissors since I had them already. What knives are you carrying besides the multi-tools though?
So whats the situation on these are you gonna make them for purchase yet? Im guessing thats going to be really expensive with all the high tech addons. I dont really use 90% of that stuff but that little rachet tool would be great to have. This version is way more useful and practically thought out than the previous in my opinion.
Not with this version. That item was added because there was a time a year ago when I really needed a thumbtack for something and I got heckled for not having one on me. "What do you mean you don't have a thumbtack? I thought you were supposed to be The Urban Prepper?". Now I carry one so I'll be ready next time. :)
How long have you been using the Mr. Green nail clippers? The customer comments have me worried. There are some very low ratings and some of the comments with high ratings are full of grammatical errors that you see with fake ratings. Also, have you ever though of using a Fisher bullet pen in your kit? It seems like it would be the perfect option.
Haven't checked the comments to see if this has been brought up yet, but you should replace your 1/4" bits with Leatherman bits. They are double sided and flat, so you should be able to almost double your capabilities for the same form factor. Also they work with your existing ratchet and driver!
Good little set up. we do a small pack kit for SHTF scenarios that is designed for when things get tough and you need to find food but town isn't too safe. It includes snares, pliers, small emergency can openers, fire starter, shelter and bunch of other things. I may put one together for you to demo if your willing.
nice. fun fact, I carry the style PS and you can use the little scissors as nail clippers. they actually do a pretty good job. learned that from a backpacking subreddit.
The emergency numbers are a great idea but can you read them without your glasses? I also wear glasses, for the same reason I carry a fresnel lens in my tool kit so I can read small things without my glasses.
TheUrbanPrepper lucky you. I can’t read anything without my glasses. By the way, thank you for all of the great ideas over the years. I keep an EDC toolkit in my backpack, but I never found a good way to carry a simple socket set and screwdriver bits. Every solution I came up with was a tradeoff on weight, bulk or noise. But then I built a box solely around the Topeak Ratchet tool, loading the box wiith a bunch of bits and sockets. I used the same County Comm box, and lined the bottom with magnetic sheet that holds down the bits, so they don’t rattle. I also lined the lid with the magnetic sheet, which gives me a nice holder for loose screws and hardware when l’m working. I used your system of glueing the tiny magnets to secure the tool and extension. It is an awesome little kit that I have used a bunch of times. I never would have thought about it without your inspiration. So thank you.
Is the tin you are using in the video the same size as an altiods mint tin? Reason why i am asking is because i have several altiods tins in the garage and it would be better to use one of those instead of having to buy a new tin.
Great update! Is it possible to get JUST the sticker to add over my current EDC Altoids tin? I ordered and received the Ratchet Rocket and discovered that it is too big to fit in a commercial Altoids tin, just an FYI that I think you should mention to everyone. I see that the tin you use from CountyComm is slightly larger then commercial ones.
Very Cool, I was very happy to see that there was an update to your kits. I do enjoy watching them and seeing what you come up with. I would love to see new mini and standard EDC kits for non-Urban situations.
The intro and outro were enough for me to like this video!!! And of course, is one of your videos Cliff, can't dislike a TUP video with such high production value!! Hope you're doing well, take care!!!

Very best EDC video in a very loooooong time - and it works with magnets - and a gazillion extra kudos for the musical theme - THE best theme for EDC come to think of it - for those in the know - enjoyed very much
The belt clip kills me 😂 I do carry one of these often. I have three young kids and anytime I go to an amusement park or anywhere for that matter what I'm going to be out all day I carry one that has things I may need, a couple of pieces of toilet paper, a few different types of medicine, a Gerber dime, a lighter, and a few other things. It's a super great idea and comes in handy almost every single time I have it. I also have one that's quite a bit bigger that I keep in my backpack that has things like water purification tablets, snare wire, fishing hooks, a thermal blanket, etc and is more geared towards actual survival. I'm pretty sure though, the first time ever saw this idea was on your channel a few years ago. Keep up the good work.
Can I suggest Bayer Aspirin as this is very usefull at the first sigh of Heart attack, I believe there is not a better Aspirin than Bayer, I use the 500mg size I did take two Aspirin when I first felt symptoms of a Heart Attack, by the time I arrived at the hospital my symptoms where almost gone, and triage thought I had Not had a Heart attack, But the blood work showed I had, And had a Stent put in a next morning , My Altoids is 90% of your plans
Does anybody else concerns about that amount of magnets being close of a memory card or the one glued to the USB cable? According to my knowledge those actions may ruin some electronics, right?

And what about a mini magnifying lens for starting fires on sunny days?
I've been working on a minimalist kit, kind of a survival tin on steroids,
Trying to squeeze capability found in a day pack into a 2" X 4" X 6" tin / pouch.
I carry nail clippers too. They are a great addition imho
Good. you just gave me an idea for a mini fire kit. I have one of those mini Altoids tins that's been floating around my junk drawer... thanks.
don't the magnets mess with the computer storage devices? Thanks for sharing! I think I'll be putting some of these together for each family member.
Hi.
I love how his voice got so passionate over the nail clippers because other people didn’t like it lmao
The leatherman style cs is $90 now. Wild what leatherman has done in the past few years with raising prices and discontinuing great products
I choose to believe that you did the bit on the Imodium all in one take and with a complete straight face.
Won’t the magnets mess with the Memory Card?
No.
Nope. Here's a video that I made to demo this: ua-cam.com/video/Bpcek5PXdQo/v-deo.html
We need an updated version
Looking forward to purchasing a complete kit! I do hope it is pre-assembled and not a package with all the items for us to put together.
Yes. It will definitely be pre-assembled.
Always a pleasure to see your new ideas in action.
I just came back from Seattle and it is a lot closer to Caracas, Venezuela than you think !!!
Ouch! That is scary. It used to be much nicer here.
It's been 3 years we need version 5 to be released.
So whats the situation on these are you gonna make them for purchase yet? Im guessing thats going to be really expensive with all the high tech addons.
I dont really use 90% of that stuff but that little rachet tool would be great to have. This version is way more useful and practically thought out than the previous in my opinion.
Awesome! How did you do the list of phone #'s on the inside of the lid? What software, etc.?
Have you ever used the thumbtack for anything? Great info.
Not with this version. That item was added because there was a time a year ago when I really needed a thumbtack for something and I got heckled for not having one on me. "What do you mean you don't have a thumbtack? I thought you were supposed to be The Urban Prepper?". Now I carry one so I'll be ready next time. :)
You have a pen but no paper to write on. Is there room for a few small sheets of notebook paper along with the cleaning cloth?
I carry yellow sticky pads in my wallet.
One day you'll squeeze whole tent in one of those tins....lol
I've watched a lot of these altoid edc kits videos and by far this one is the best!
Haven't checked the comments to see if this has been brought up yet, but you should replace your 1/4" bits with Leatherman bits. They are double sided and flat, so you should be able to almost double your capabilities for the same form factor. Also they work with your existing ratchet and driver!
Okay, bonus points for the MacGuiver theme.
I'm also excited to see the edc tin videos. Love the MacGyver theme song.
What ever happened to being able to purchase your kits? I was on the lookout, but then spaced out. Hope I didn't miss it.
Almost ready. Some of the items have been difficult to wholesale, so I've had to make some slight modifications. I'm shooting for July.
Wish there were a way I could help. Anyway, thank you so much for what you do. Former Seattlite, myself.
The emergency numbers are a great idea but can you read them without your glasses? I also wear glasses, for the same reason I carry a fresnel lens in my tool kit so I can read small things without my glasses.
Good addition with the fresnel lens. Fortunately, I can read them with my glasses off. I can't read things far away without my glasses.
Where did you get those mini tins inside your altoids kit. I need those to store my bits
Where does one get the aweome micro compartments? @theurbanprepper these are amazing. I've seen various iterations you've done. Cheers!
Somebody know where i can buu the little metal boxes like in the video?
Is the tin you are using in the video the same size as an altiods mint tin? Reason why i am asking is because i have several altiods tins in the garage and it would be better to use one of those instead of having to buy a new tin.
Great update! Is it possible to get JUST the sticker to add over my current EDC Altoids tin? I ordered and received the Ratchet Rocket and discovered that it is too big to fit in a commercial Altoids tin, just an FYI that I think you should mention to everyone. I see that the tin you use from CountyComm is slightly larger then commercial ones.
Nice job, like the magnets to secure... but what is 'bad luck' in a white bic lighter??? lol thanks
Where can I found the leather bag of altoids
Very Cool, I was very happy to see that there was an update to your kits. I do enjoy watching them and seeing what you come up with. I would love to see new mini and standard EDC kits for non-Urban situations.
Por favor , mande um pra mim aqui no Brasil, não tem altoids pra vender e quando tem é muito caro , preciso de um kit desses please.
Know it has been several years, but what is the size of the 2 little tins and where can I buy them from?
I do love the way you get things so organised
Thanks a bunch, Jenny!
The intro and outro were enough for me to like this video!!! And of course, is one of your videos Cliff, can't dislike a TUP video with such high production value!! Hope you're doing well, take care!!!
I've got some tiny 2"x3" ziplock bags of ibuprofen, benadryl, aspirin, a leatherman micra, a thrunight, a bic mini, nail clippers, bandaids
I just found your video and have been wanting something small to carry with me, but dont want to take the time and money to get all of these things....how much is a kit like this? I really dont thing Id use all those Kingston USB computer item? But who knows?
Hello Cliff. Just checking to see if you got a round to it for the sales of the Altoid EDF Kit Version 4.0? BTW, Your site and videos set rock. GR8 job!
David
Very best EDC video in a very loooooong time - and it works with magnets - and a gazillion extra kudos for the musical theme - THE best theme for EDC come to think of it - for those in the know - enjoyed very much
What is the screwdriver ratchet called? I'm thinking about buying one
You should add a little hotel sewing kit and shoe polish kit. The hotel ones are super compact.
The belt clip kills me 😂
I do carry one of these often. Keep up the good work.
what about some more medical items like bandaids and wipes
Can I suggest Bayer Aspirin as this is very usefull at the first sigh of Heart attack, I believe there is not a better Aspirin than Bayer, I use the 500mg size I did take two Aspirin when I first felt symptoms of a Heart Attack, by the time I arrived at the hospital my symptoms where almost gone, and triage thought I had Not had a Heart attack, But the blood work showed I had, And had a Stent put in a next morning ,
My Altoids is 90% of your plans
why would you put an SD card to a magnetic enclosure
Nice. I would to see what you could do with the Wazoo survival belt.
I have a similar belt and honestly, you can't fit much in and still have the belt bend. You can probably get double the amount in an altoidn tin
@@grouch314 yep, agree. I just have a mini leatherman and two sealed straws with some bits in it. But Id love to see what he could do with it
Does anybody else concerns about that amount of magnets being close of a memory card or the one glued to the USB cable? According to my knowledge those actions may ruin some electronics, right?
Here's a video that I made on this subject: ua-cam.com/video/Bpcek5PXdQo/v-deo.html
Don't the magnets screw up your data-storage?
What do you need the sim tray removal tool for when you have a paperclip?
Are you still selling these? Would really like to have one!!!!
Wouldn't that magnet mess up a SD card?
